Vicious XL Bully attack leaves five-year-old boy with life-changing injuries and needing facial reconstruction surgery | Daily Mail Online

Little Teddy needed 100 stitches in his face but was lucky to escape with his life.

Is it unreasonable now to ask the Government to give a warning in the media, that children are to be kept away from these dogs? Not to enter a house or garden where they're known to be? Even if told that the dog is safe, which they are not.
This little chap was visiting a home with his family when it struck.

XL Bully attack leaves young boy needing facial reconstruction surgery

A five-year-old boy has been left with life-changing injuries following a vicious mauling by an XL Bully in Scotland. His traumatised family who helplessly watched on in horror now want the breed banned.

It's a miracle a baby survived being nannied by these XLs.

That is the sad and dangerous truth. I think a lot of bully defenders paint me as a dog hater. I volunteer with large abandoned breeds and don't feel any of them could kill me. Hurt maybe

But xl bullies? Cull.

BBC News - Two held as baby hurt in suspected XL bully attack
www.bbc.com/news/articles/c62zgng1k5yo

Once again....they act all devastated and suprised after it happens but it's too bloody late! If they cared that much they wouldn't have let a baby near an XL bully.
No-one can play the ignorance card in these situstions....the risks associated with those dogs are widely known and publicised.....WHY they are not a banned breed yet goodness knows! How many more injuries or deaths to innocent children will it take?!

As a vegan, I want them all culled.

I am also vegan, and I would kill them all myself, from a safe distance, if I could.

The office for national statistics. All figures and records are clearly shown . Again not defending XL breed. All dogs are dangerous though. Media only reports what people will read or click onto. A story about a big bad bully gets people like you wound up and unable to read and understand a full post. I think all dogs and dog owners should be registered as it's the only way to stop people buying and breeding dogs as status symbols. Instead we get people who stigmatise only certain dogs as their little fluffy wouldn't hurt a fly , it's just the big bad breeds we need to destroy. Any dog will bite and can turn in an instant. National registered ownership with compulsory training to prove you are capable of looking after an animal is what I believe should happen.

You keep saying office for national statistics - can you actually post to the table? Because the information you are referring to appears to exist only in your head.

Its you that's unable to read and understand. But I'm not surprised by that. If you're still trying to pretend a small dog attack is comparable to a large dog attack.

And by your rudeness, I imagine that is why you are limited working with dogs, not other human beings. There's really no need to lash out when you're being challenged - unless you're a badly trained dog!

People like me? You have lost a credibility I'm afraid. Grow up.

Grow up? Again showing your to emotional. How is people like you an insult? It was meant in a way to explain people who only believe banned dogs attack and kill. My point all along was to show that any dog can bite. The inbred XL breed should never have existed in the first place. Humans interbred them and humans bought them. Humans believe their little pet monster won't bite. My point all along was naive people don't realise any dog can attack a human and every day they do. The media don't report it though. It has to be a good headline and Yorkshire terrier bites toddlers ear off doesn't make a good story. Ask your postman which dog they fear most. It won't be a bully XL , because they are not abundant in this country.

9 deaths by Labrador attacks in UK. Government figure. Does every dog attack end in death? The story I posted for was a child bitten but not killed.

The number one dog most likely to bite you in the UK? That beautiful, loving , faithful and cuddly Labrador!!!

Statistics matter. Well, the number of Labradors is huge so even if say 1% of labs bite, that could be more than a breed with fewer numbers but 25% of those bite.
I know which one, cuddly lab or xl bully, I'd rather take my chances with.

How do the statistics pan out about severity of injuries inflicted by a Labrador compared to an XL bully ?

Guns harm more people than knives in the UK. So they are clearly safer.

I think you may have made up those figures, I don't think anyone has been killed by a labrador in the UK.

These kinds of comparisons are always so disingenuous. Bully XLs have killed a more people in a lot shorter time than any other dog breed in the UK. Most people can fend off most dogs if they turn— even a child could fight a whippet or a French Bulldog— but some dogs are dangerous even for adults, and some dogs are more prone to aggressive turns. No one ever reads news of greyhounds going on a rampage.

I don't get the arguement "they'll just replace it with another breed". And? We can get rid of that breed too then.

Also "I'd trust my dog more then other humans". It's a dog. I don't trust even trust my dog with my sandwich. This anthropomorphism of dogs or any animals needs to stop

100%, any dog is capable of attacking, even with good owners. If it is huge, and can overpower than more needs to be done. These kind of breeds are status symbols for some people; they like others to be scared.

I try to teach my dcs not to be afraid of dogs, but the truth is some are dangerous and I don't want them anywhere near. I have told them if there is a dog I feel is a risk I will make sure I keep them out of the way. This means any dog that is capable of overpowering, and not on a lead, or with one of those spaced out owners whose dog is walking them, we will do our best to stay away. There is one idiot man who stands looking drugged up, with his huge muscular, dangerous dog not on a lead on the main school route where all of the children walk, run by. Honestly, they are ignorant, and you know if it attacked, he would be the first to say what 'a lovely dog' it is, and play the victim.
What kind of world do we live in, where these dogs are put before human life? Honestly get powerful dogs muzzled in public, and remove existing banned breed pets from homes. These children need protected, seeing as how their pathetic parents aren't going to do it.

ThomasPatrickKeatingsDegas · 12/12/2024 12:36

“Another family member said the baby and the dog were "like two peas in a pod".
She added that the mother of the injured baby was "devastated".
"It is shocking. You see and hear about it all the time, but you don't actually think it is going to happen to your own family," she said.”

you see and read about it, but you don’t think to keep an XL bully away from your baby. Absolute thickos. Wish they had been mauled instead of their child. Honestly it would be better if SS removed the child to be with a family that aren’t selfish and thick.

Depends on your view, really. As I noted I don't give two shits what you call your pooch or think it is classed as. But as long as I am in a minority, nothing will ever be done.

Let's be honest. If anyone was going to do anything, it would have been done by now.

Clearly the UK as a whole feels the number of dogs attacks is acceptable. I just wish folk were more honest about it.

Agree. If we cared, we do things differently

Won't help, they can (and do) breed new varieties faster than the legislation to ban them.

"the dog and the baby were like 'two peas in a pod'"

WTF is wrong with people. Yeah let's just put a 100lb plus banned dog breed with a dodgy temperament around a baby.

Sometimes I despair.

Exactly this. How many times do we hear "dog is usually so friendly, and well looked after, they had been on their own loads together etc etc." This isn't your average family dog. It is a huge dangerous unpredictable dog. It isn't just bad owners which is horrendous enough, but even in the best hands this dog is too much of a risk, especially around children. One tiny thing can set them off, and they can overpower. They have even turned on their owners before. They need taken out of peoples houses and destroyed. Imo other dogs that can overpower humans need muzzled as well in public at all times, I don't care how "friendly" it is.

We need ‘big or dangerous’ dogs legislation.

First extend the breed bans.

Then any dog that isn’t banned outright and is capable of killing of inflicting terrible injury - Rottweilers, Dobermans, Alsatians, Staffies, the whole lot of them - should be subject to restrictions.

The dangerous non-banned breeds should at the very least be required by law to be muzzled at all times in public.

SerendipityJane · 12/12/2024 12:17

If dogs (and I couldn't give two shits about the smokescreen of "breeds" that seems to be stopping definitive action) can't be controlled in the owners homes, then why in the name of all that is holy are we allowing them into our public spaces ?
