Restore my faith in humanity… 1987 hurricane for example

There seem to have been a glut of posts recently about people just not giving a crap about others. It made me think about the 1987 hurricane when my hamlet was cut off for two weeks from civilisation essentially and what we all did to support one another. There was ONE house with power and the people there threw open their doors to provide hot water and hot food - and were repaid a thousand times over by people in the months after in a myriad of ways.

Please restore my faith in humanity by sharing a nice story of an instance where someone helped someone else out just because of inherent decency. ♥️

yes I was a bit WTF 😆

Sorry if you thought so, I was just reiterating my original point. Maybe I was off base somehow but it read a bit as if: “If you want good stuff just Google it.”

Tonight is one our Scouts biggest fundraising events of the year. Last year a retired couple in the village attended, no children, no connection to the group in anyway. They enjoyed it so much much, they send us a massive donation a couple of years ago to ensure it could happen this year.

@applepipshake ‘s reply was supportive of your thread OP and you snapped at them, whether or not it was exactly what you wanted from posters.

On a thread about people having faith in humanity, too!
I thought that @applepipshake 's post was lovely!

No, I just reaffirmed point that I can google anything but it was wanting to see some goodness on this forum that I was after. I wasn’t remotely rude. How on earth was it snapping?

Haha just noticed my typo up there. I don't think I deserve a 'medal' for my 20pGrin

After my wife passed, one of my neighbours, who I barely knew, prepared a huge amount of food for us. Just to give me a helping hand

Over time this has evolved into her coming round for Sunday lunch regularly, she loves Yorkshires and roast potatoes.

The DC enjoy spending time with her, and she likes acting as a third gran. Her family are quite far away and can't visit that often.

Even better, my mum moved back to the area and they get on like a house on fire.

We got shut out of our house the other week, me & my 2 kids. The door had jammed on something inside. I don't really know any neighbours but went across the road & down a bit, in desperation, & asked a man who was doing work outside his house if he could possibly come & help.

He bought his toolbag over, tried a few different tools, got the door open & told me to keep the one that had worked in my handbag, in case it happened again. I was so touched. Genuinely lovely.

I gave a woman 20p for the hairdryer at swimming the other day, her child was having a meltdown over their wet hair. I try to medel being kind to my kids. She tried to give me 20p in 5ps but I left it next to her bag.

I was only wondering if , in these days of AI and state sponsored disruption , the days of anonymous social media are numbered ? The

I have doubts about how many hateful threads are running and I don't think they are all legit

It's just hard to separate wheat from chaff especially as when you create an atmosphere it's easy to leave it to run - people follow a lead more easily than they would like to admit ( so much so that the US hid research that showed just how easily American citizens could hurt others given the right lead )

"“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
― Fred Rogers"

There are always helpers. In every bad scenario. Google any awful event and you will find them. Focus on the good and you will find it.

Well yes and I work for a charity where I meet people doing amazing things all the time, wasn’t the point of this thread though. I’m asking on here because recently I’ve seen stuff on here that is the direct opposite of good.
