Actually feeling annoyed at the democrats

AIBU to just feel annoyed at them this time? I feel like they went about this election in completely the wrong way and like most politicians, really have no idea about the country they’re trying to unite.

  • Biden. What a joke. I do actually feel sorry for him (for his aging and the way it was portrayed) but how on earth was he allowed to be reelected? It was so embarrassing and made them look so vulnerable as a party, And it took them far too long. And he was also accused of rape in his early days which the Trump-ists think makes him even worse as no one really talks about this.
  • Kamala as a candidate. No way in hell was she going to be accepted. The state the country is in where someone like Trump was another option - she wasn’t a great choice (which is a sad thing as she is a very competent woman). She’s a women without children, alien in how educated she is.
  • their campaign - felt quite wishy washy and focussing a lot on abortion rights. I feel like they were completely preaching to the wrong audience about this. People who were worried about abortion rights were already never going to vote Trump. So this was t a way to win people. The focus seemed very pro abortion which is too pro choice for most Americans (even a lot of people who think they are pro choice only like it in certain circumstances).
  • Trump is seen as sone anti establishment hero. He’s ‘different’ whereas democrats are ‘one of the same’. They are ‘them’.

I don’t know, I think I’m just frustrated this time.

Yes. But if the answer to any question is Trump, then I think there needs to be individual responsibility too. Like what the fuck do you think you’re doing voting for him type of personal responsibility.

Of course there does. A lot of people are idiots. Doesn’t change the fact it’s been ruined for millions of Americans and the rest of the world though.

it’s also worth pointing out while the uk has had 3 female PMs and one POC as PM, they have all come from the party of the right. I think the US’s first female president will be a republican.

Maybe, but misogyny and racism tends to be higher in working class and less well educated populations, and they are increasingly voting Republican now. So the Right in the US may have missed the window for getting a woman or POC in.

freddyfluffball · 06/11/2024 21:31

@Littlemissgobby oh yeah i think we are totally screwed. If people voted for him because they thought he would sort out the economy they've probably got another thing coming. But surely what must be the reason the swing states did vote for him? Why else would they?

Littlemissgobby · 06/11/2024 21:20

I just answered that in my last comment. But basically, a lot of people don't understand that in order to run for the campaign, they would have actually lost the money that biden had brought in from donations if they had try to choose other people, that's why they had to go with the vice president because she was on the same ticket.
I don't understand why, but that's what they were saying on the radio that basically they would have lost all that donations

You are totally correct the money would have had to be returned to donators - too much work and not enough time. They NEVER should have hidden Biden's incompetence/medical issues. There were moderate Democrats the party, who could have allowed to run, but to put Harris up there (who spent WAY more money campaigning than the RNC did for Trump) who didn't even get 7% when she tried for the nomination.

@CookieCrumbles23 I haven't said she had a better answer, I'm interested in what trump's answer was. I literally asked that one question out of interest. I think you may be right that Trump won on the economy because I can't think of any other reason that people would have voted for him other than they thought they would get richer.

They are saying it is about the economy but economists are now saying his tariffs will cost average Americans 4000 a year. She told the rallies this . Now they are saying if he does what he says interest rates will rise that includes here and potentially even more inflation for them and us . Lbc radio on iain Dale show tonight

JollyPinkFox · 06/11/2024 21:28

I would rather vote for a potato than Trump. Yanks are going to Yank I guess. I don't think it's the Democrats' fault that a majority of America hate women/POC so much that they'd vote for that evil arsehole over literally anyone else.

Oh, but he DID win on his own, and yes the Dems were the arrogant ones. Look at how the DEMS were going AFTER this man just because they know he is NOT a Washington politician; he isn't the Washington status quo. Look how many Dems voted for Harris SIMPLY because they didn't "like" Trump's arrogance. Trump's arrogance is a personality trait, NOT a reason to not vote for someone or even look at their positive traits. He won because he loves his country, he knows full well he may be assassinated (they have already tried twice), he has the strength to keep moving forward under incredible pressure from his enemies in political circles.

Give me strength the two shooters were republican voters by the way. His personality you mean like him he lies and then stated he wanted to see Liz channey shot, or the impersonation of a disabled journalist I remember from his last term yes we can see all past that apparently and he's not a great business man neither he woukd have had more money if he has put it in a savings bank . It's a fallacy read the details about him but sure thing we just like him because he's strong so strong in fact that putins a happy boy.

freddyfluffball · 06/11/2024 20:59

What was trumps answer to that?

Well, this is the reason he got the votes isn’t it?! The main focus of his campaign was the economy and he didn’t just give one generic answer each time he was asked, he spoke at length and confidently about his policies and plans. Do I think he will achieve it all? Meh. Did he run a more solid campaign than Kamala? Absolutely. You can’t honestly say she did a good job at answering questions about the COL, a primary concern of American people at the moment. Even her own supporters looked completely confused by her answers. It’s a shame, Harris’s America may have been better, but she did a poor job convincing voters, obviously.

Littlemissgobby · 06/11/2024 21:20

Sheri99 · 06/11/2024 21:14

Don't forget common American Dems didn't even get a vote on whether or not they wanted her as a candidate! They just slid Biden out and replaced him with her, never asked the VOTERS who they wanted in the Primary! What idiots, they think Americans are stupid and don't see these moves. Just like that NY Attorney General bringing Trump up on charges just because the Dems wanted to break him. Letitia James of NY was so biased and she will probably be stupid enough to still try to prosecute the President.

Littlemissgobby · 06/11/2024 21:16

I blame Biden for not stepping down quick enough when he realised he was losing his mind a little bit and actually his wife for not actually encouraging him to. However, because they run on the ticket with the same name and they already had generated a loads of money for the campaign from their donors that’s why they chose the vice president to run as president I actually did find her very nice and warm and caring, and you could just see what a lovely person she was and she did come across quite passionate about quite a lot of the details of her policies.
I watched on Jubilee on YouTube Pete budageer if I have spelt his name wrong I do apologise but he is a gay Democrat from I believe Michigan who has got children who actually was able to persuade in a room full of 25 independent type people who don’t know who they’re going to vote for 12 people to his side even the people that were talking to him said wished he was running to be president because he actually was very very convincing

Don’t always like him but Jonathan Pie sums up your thread op in his latest video.

This is spot on. I can’t stand Trump. But the whole democrat campaign was so nothing, so uninspiring and so lacking direction, especially re: Harris’ time as VP and her relationship with Biden. It will be really interesting to see if the swing came from Democrats/undecideds voting Republican or democrats/undecideds electing to not vote at all (or indeed a bit of both). If I was American I would have voted for Harris but it would have been with little enthusiasm.

Sheri99 · 06/11/2024 21:14

Zapx · 06/11/2024 20:26

I really blame the democrats. Biden should have been made to stand down much much sooner. Harris basically struggled to shrug off the accusations that she’d been covering up for him for years, which was a disaster for her campaign. Also, the Biden administration is extremely unpopular. She never managed to come up with any answers as to what she’d do differently, which was never going to go down well imo.

Who lol

TammyOne · 06/11/2024 21:12

Well, the very blue New York State and California call the rest of the country the Flyover, so yes, there is a serious problem with how the rest of the US views Democrats ( patronising, patrician, focused on identity politics rather than working class/ middle class issues like jobs and safe streets) . I’m not saying Republicans are better, just that the optics for the Dems are shitty in a lot of states.
There is also the issue of the “religious left” maybe? Traditionally Irish and Latino Americans were Dem but they are also catholic, so maybe are conflicted over the abortion issue?
Aside from that WHY is it always “ Kamala” but “ Trump” and “ Biden”? Odd.

freddyfluffball · 06/11/2024 21:09

3ormorecharacters · 06/11/2024 21:07

I definitely think the campaign could have been better. Like the rest of the world the US has experienced high inflation over the last few years and I think this is the main driver behind the results we've seen. Actually the Biden administration handled the inflation problem really well and the American economy is currently very strong, but I don't think the Democrats made that case clearly enough. Maybe that was an impossible task - perception is everything and Americans are notoriously insular so have no understanding of inflation as a global problem. I do think that the Harris campaign could have done better there though. She seemed to be constantly torn between claiming credit for the achievements of the Biden administration and distancing herself from it, which I think was the cause of considerable tension and contradiction within the campaign.

This is an insightful comment.

BruFord · 06/11/2024 20:47

@Miniopolis Hmm, I don’t know. Did you see Biden’s disastrous debate performance? It suddenly became clear that the Dems had been covering up his decline and that he isn’t well enough to lead the country. Would you trust his V-P after that?

I think that many people were totally disillusioned by this election. I voted Democrat but I wasn’t happy about it, I felt like writing in a fictional name instead. I imagine that many ppl voted Trump feeling the same way.

Would you trust his V-P after that?

While I don’t disagree with the sentiment, I would’ve voted for somebody’s pet dog over Trump. Honestly, as a dyed in the wool democrat I can see why a traditional Republican candidate in the mould of, say, George Bush might appeal these days, which I thought I would never say. But Trump? No.

beenwhereyouare · 06/11/2024 21:03

There was never going to be a good outcome. I didn't vote for him, but the only way the results weren't going to lead to rioting and violence was if Trump won by a decisive margin.

I'm afraid of what's still to come; there may be violence or even war. But no one died last night from election violence, and when I was finally able to sleep, I felt safe in my home.

The MAGA have a lot of "sore" winners among them. Vindictive posts are popping up everywhere, and there is an incredible amount of venom and hate still in the atmosphere. Not sure why, but I expected better from the winning party.

Pray for us. Please.

User135644 · 06/11/2024 21:01

I was annoyed with them when they fucked up the 2016 election after fixing it for Hilary.

After the Biden farce last 12 months I wouldn't even want them to win anymore.

“i think she had good policies, but were not highlighted enough.
i liked the help for small business, families with newborns, and first time home buyers”

The biggest problem in the campaign was her. Regardless of how good her policies were/could have been, when it really mattered, she could not get across what that would look like. She pointed out the obvious and never actually answered a question thoroughly. When asked about how she plans to help Americans with the COL crisis she said something along the lines of ‘the cost of living is high, people are struggling to buy groceries, we need to bring the cost down so it’s affordable’. It was just nonsense. How could anyone have confidence in her when she couldn’t give confident and clear answers.

What was trumps answer to that?

I keep seeing this on Twitter but most of the news stations are saying close to record turnout and in many states higher than 2020.

I think turnout was high but not as high as 2020.

My source was this, which is a fairly nerdy podcast about polling. They were saying that in 2020 there were 160M votes cast, but this year is more like 150M - and that the differences were greatest in urban, democrat-leaning areas, so the lower turnout affected the Democrat vote more (discussion on turnout at about 7:30 minutes in)
