Where is Kamala?

Just saw this post on X, and I tend to agree...

"Kamala lost as she campaigned - a coward who couldn't face the media, couldn't handle the pressure. Didn't even have the character required to concede on election night. Went home to sulk. The opposite of presidential material."

Really and truly was there nobody with any substance the Democrats could have put forward. What on earth did they expect. The bar was so low.

Apologies I thought it was like it is here. When exactly does he become president then?

No problem. Here is a timeline of the next few months.

Probably being programmed with the latest dose of garbled mumbo jumbo that she normally comes out with.

Thank you for posting this.

I am so tired of people blaming sexism etc for her loss. She never SAID anything. I’m not talking about eloquence because Trump is far from eloquent. But at least you had a clear idea of what he was offering - even if you didn’t agree with it.

So tired of people blaming race, sex etc.

She was a poor candidate. You can not compare her statesmanship with Condolezza Rice for example.

He's "President Elect" for now, sparkellie, and actually starts his term at the inauguration in January

Thank you, maybe that's where my confusion has come from. Is that the case for everyone else too then? So nothing changes until January? Or just him? Sorry to ask, it's just so different to the UK!

It’s not about misogyny.

Its about being gracious in defeat which in itself is a show of strength.

KH looks weak by not conceding and unprofessional by not thanking her supporters.

It doesn’t matter that she is woman.

It’s not about ‘being nice’

Also do you know what a fascist is ?

No one on this thread can be accused of being a fascist by what they have written here.

Trump set the precedent. Did he thank his supporters, no he incited a riot, did he concede gracefully, no he went to court. The Republican hypocrisy is rife on this thread.

Sandygoldenbeaches · 06/11/2024 19:58

Poor Kamala

Anyone excited for Kamala 2028?!

She's so sweet and I am pretty sure she can win the next primary, as she will have honed her speaking/debating skills pretty well in 2024.

The Dems spent over a billion dollars on her campaign and she lost.

There is zero chance for 2028

Takoneko · 06/11/2024 19:56

This thread is nuts. The last time a concession speech took place on election day was in 2008 and that was very different because that election was called by all news networks by 11pm on election day. In 2012 and 2016 the concession speeches both took place on the Wednesday.

I’d like someone to find me any examples of a US presidential candidate conceding before the news network decision desks called the election. People seem to be suggesting that her completely normal decision to wait until the election was called is somehow unusual. It really isn’t.

Trump has NEVER conceded his 2020 loss, and it's been four years. Kamala can take her time.

Amazes me how people keep holding the Democrats to a high standard but feel it's ok for the Republicans to win from inside the murkiest gutter (smh).

KoalaCalledKevin · 06/11/2024 19:55

And not everything has to be about "Yes but look what Trump did". We can agree - and many of us do - that he's ghastly, but that's no reason not to hope for something better from someone else

Of course, but when a fair amount of the abuse she's getting is from Trump supporters (not necessarily on this thread, but generally), it is reasonable to point out the hypocrisy. You can't think Trump is presidential, then point out that because she didn't do a speech, she is not presidential.

The misogyny and double standards on this and many other election threads is depressing, if illuminating.

Because the woman candidate is not 'nice', or is not kowtowing sufficiently, bring on the fascists, eh?

If she can't handle a short speech to her own disappointed and sad supporters. how was she considered world leader material? Can you imagine her trying to deal with a war, foreign dictator or catastrophic event?

Like someone upthread said. She’d probably call on J-LO and Beyoncé to sing to the dictator and she herself would chant hope not hate at him.

The word pathetic sums her up well.

I doubt poor Joe even knows he’s president at this stage. The elder abuse that occurred there to retain power was atrocious.

There needs to be a system in place for cases like this.

Even in his condition, I don't think Kamala ought be able to just assume this power of his. The US elected Biden, not Harris.

That said, I'm unsure of the ethics of it all. I'd like to see some proof of life I guess.

notquitetonedeaf · 06/11/2024 19:48

The starting assumption in blaming her is that if she had done something different she could have won. But in a country with deep unresolved veins of racism and misogyny an ethnic minority woman was always going to lose. If the democrats wanted to win, they should have picked a white man. Biden scuppered their chances by first squatting in a throne he was too feeble to command from, then anointing Harris as his successor.
I can't blame Harris. She wiped the floor with Trump in the debate. The problem goes deeper than that.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/11/2024 19:48

Takoneko · 06/11/2024 19:36

How on earth could she have done the speech last night? The result wasn’t in until until around 5:30AM eastern time.

She obviously couldn't have done the concession then, but some of us were thinking of a thank you to the many party workers who did so much for her campaign and she didn't even manage that

And not everything has to be about "Yes but look what Trump did". We can agree - and many of us do - that he's ghastly, but that's no reason not to hope for something better from someone else

Edited to add we don't know where Biden is, @SpudleyLass - but then it's possible he doesn't either Sad

Presumably she cares about her country and is devastated, I don't blame her at all for disappearing. Is Trump had lost he would have started a coup d'etat.

Actually, no.

Where is Joe? He is current President, not Kamala. He should be doing the peaceful transfer of power, not her.

Unless he is incapacitated?

SassK · 06/11/2024 19:46

I thought it was poor form of her to not speak at her watch party. She didn't need to say much, just an acknowledgement of the people there. That said apparently she's not great without a teleprompter; impromptu speaking isn't her strong suit.
