Where is Kamala?

Just saw this post on X, and I tend to agree...

"Kamala lost as she campaigned - a coward who couldn't face the media, couldn't handle the pressure. Didn't even have the character required to concede on election night. Went home to sulk. The opposite of presidential material."

Really and truly was there nobody with any substance the Democrats could have put forward. What on earth did they expect. The bar was so low.

Trump shouldn’t be the standard of behaviour here. That’s the point. Other Democrat candidates who ran for election should be.

True but saying she should have been rejected on that basis is a bit rich when they seem to be forgetting who was elected instead.

fanaticalfairy · 06/11/2024 20:34

Maybe she's waiting until the voting has actually ended?

If she says well done now, she might be handing more seats to him, as those last few voters may think, ah fuck it, I won't bother then.

I'm guessing she's knackered and very angry. Maybe needed some sleep a good cry and time to gather her thoughts.
She is only human.

This!

They usually call to congratulate the winner, wonder if she has managed to do this

@Bellatrixpure
Like Trump did in 2020??
Wherever she is, I am certain she is not planning to storm the Capitol.

They did indeed, MillyMichaelson, but put it this way ... if the incoming results had been going Kamala's way does anyone suppose she'd just have scuttled off and left someone else to suggest the faithful go home?

As PPs have said this is about grace under fire and leadership skills, and to many she'll just be confirming that they did right to reject her

Except when Trump lost he didn't call Biden to congratulate him or turn up to the inauguration ceremony. What does that say about the one who has just been elected. Should he have been rejected on that basis?

I think we also need to discuss Tim Walz as her running mate as well.

I don’t think he was a good choice especially as this election was always going to be decided in Penn.

JD Vance wiped the floor with him in the debates. He seems like a nice guy but being a nice guy isn’t the criteria for VP.

I think that's actually exactly what they were betting on actually, but when Vance appeared in his human skinsuit during the debate, he had nowhere to go.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/11/2024 20:32

She would have never got the nomination this time if she ran, she only got it because Biden dropped down mid race and they had to scramble to replace him

She may not have got it even then, @Ilovelifeverymuch, had the campaign money not been tied to being spent on either her or Biden

I hadn't realised they spent over a billion (thanks, @Twistybranch), and it's no wonder they dumped her on voters rather than lose that kind of money - though I do wonder how much this had to do with voters naming democracy as their leading concern in the exit polls

She comes over as very lightweight. Now Michelle Obama would have had a really good chance of beating Trump. IMHO. So it's nothing to do with being black or a woman. Folk need to look further for the reasons she lost.

I’m a life long conservative but I like the Obamas. Their strong centrist values appeal to swing voters. She will take her chance but Michelle is smart. Trump won this election two years ago. This wasn’t her time.

@Puzzledandpissedoff oh stop it. People who just gave up months of their lives for a cause they believed in, are in no mood to party when they lose to an actual misogynist facist.

Be sensible will ya instead of picking holes in the perfectly normal actions of the losing candidate.

I thought it was said he was scare of her? The narrative changes but always vitriolic. Just accept the results and move on.

Well at leat she's not trying to suggest the election was rigged and starting riots....

Well that would be ridiculous with a landslide.

HuckleberryBlackcurrant · 06/11/2024 20:25

Can only imagine the reaction if Trump had taken so long to concede defeat. 'He's trying to overthrow democracy!!!!'

He did when Biden won...he still does and incited a riot, I'm assuming you're being ironic...

Dweetfidilove · 06/11/2024 20:28

Maybe she's treating Trump with the same contempt he's treated her. He declared himself winner before the election was even called, so I doubt he cares about her urgency or lack thereof.

Except he and his supporters did try to overthrow democracy, didn't they? It's not exactly an unfounded fear? He still hasn't conceded 2020.

SweetBobby · 06/11/2024 20:26

Not surprising at all from her, she is a complete disgrace.

Ludoo · 06/11/2024 20:26

Agree, it’s not always about sexism or racism.

What a bitter post. I feel sorry for you.

How is it bitter to critique a senior political figure? Isn't that a democratic right?

Thing is though when a sitting prime minister loses an election in this country they have to do a speech pretty quickly outside of their home, often with kids in tow and start the process of transition within hours. Yes it’s different systems but the expected approach is to say something magnanimous and congratulate the opponent even if it stings like hell.

Now the problem is Trump basically got away with insurrection last time. He seems to be held to totally different standards to everyone else. That must sting as well but she can’t do anything about that so she needs to stick to the norms that everyone else is expected to.

Why on earth are you expecting a US politician, in a US election, to act in accordance with UK political norms with regard to the timing of their concession speech?

Honestly, just listen to yourself!
