The scent of Trump and Musk.....

Aside from the general WTF feeling brought about by today's election results, does anyone else wonder if we're heading for a blockbuster combining the plot lines of Independence Day, Terminator 2 and possibly a touch of Leave the World Behind? I'm actually starting to feel as though the plot has been completely lost, possibly sucked up by the White House Roomba. I'm only trying to laugh, because crying is too much effort and futile.

How Trump’s ‘new star’ Elon Musk stands to benefit from his presidency

There are already signs of a return on the Tesla chief’s political investment, and there could be more to come

Are we glossing over Biden being an old white man who was terrible on women's rights during his presidency, disowned his own grandchild and lost the election by hanging on too long when he was very clearly unwell? I'm no Trump fan but let's be honest, Biden was pretty rubbish.

"Are we glossing over Biden being an old white man who was terrible on women's rights during his presidency"

Trump is an old white man whose engineered the loss of reproductive rights for women across vast swathes of the US.

Re, Biden being 'terrible on women's rights' - how?

And all that being said in my earlier post, I'll just leave this here. Sad and worried about stuff like this. Wine, more wine.

Just read about Musk's support of Tommy Robinson and his "increasing interest in the UK" - that couple with this article about him and Trump appealing to young men, who also endorse: "Your body. My choice. Forever" - I feel sick.
Didn't think I'd be agreeing with Farage so strongly!
Very scared for our future.
Trump might not be able to buy Greenland but would he let Musk buy us?? These impressionable mainstream incel men are being groomed to hate women by this billionaire "hero" - absolutely terrifying coupled with the spreading woman-hate from Islamists.

Reminds me of a cult leader.

Well he's certainly something four-lettered beginning in "c", ending in "t" !

MistressoftheDarkSide · 07/11/2024 17:30

Well I did start this thread as a semi- lighthearted one so chops to those playing along 😁

Especially the poster who twigged the intended pun in the title - apparently the scent of Trump and Musk could be named Dystopia!

As for where this is all going, who knows. I have a bottle of cheap red, a warm cat, and so much dystopian Sci fi to choose from on streaming platforms, I'm spoiled for choice.

There are really, really serious concerns with worldwide implications that I can do very little about, and which make me sad and worried. Yes, it's unlikely to be sentient AI related, or nuclear Armageddon (hopefully). But if my gallows humour can carry me through and we can still discuss all the randomness of modern life, I'll take that for now.

So have as good an evening as you can, vipers - and chin chin.

Lots of people laughed at Musk for buying X but it’s paid off. Or as one person put it:
”Elon is such a dumbass. He spent $44 billion on Twitter and all he got was control of all 3 branches of the federal government.”

I hadn't heard that one.Grin

Do you think there's any truth in it, @Thatsenoughcoffee ? That owning X/Twitter gave him influence in the election?

I've been wondering if Musk fixed the election for Trump, not by his money give-away shenanigans, but because he has a lot of high powered computing power and technical knowhow at his disposal. The money give-away being a smoke screen.

I’m left wing and would have voted for Harris. But honestly we do ourselves no favours with these types of conspiracy theories. Bernie Sanders recent comments about the left abandoning the working classes and why they lost, are where democrats need to focus their attention.

MoonriseKingdom · 07/11/2024 10:24

Isn’t this the plot of Fallout?!😁

There is a lot of things to worry about with Trump and Musk but this is not one of them. I strongly suspect they’ll fall out quickly like last time.

He funded a lot of door to door campaigning.

But having control of X obviously helped. The image generator Grok was given particular abilities to make Trump pictures which then spread virally.

What's anti white racism, @Thatsenoughcoffee ?

Racism against white people. It’s a defining feature of progressives. It even includes the believe that it’s not possible for them to be racist against white people. Isn’t that convenient!

Fortunately the American voters have just utterly rejected that ideology.

Oh, Jesus. 🙄

What a lot of dystopian bollocks.

Yes, they do not learn a thing. It doesn’t seem they are influencing many people either.

This thread title is the first thing about the election results to have made me smile - very good OP 😁

Me and DH were just saying the other day that IF Trump got in at least he's pretty old and it will be the last time. (if he even gets through 4 years)

And then, because he must realise the same thing, we wondered if he was 'grooming' a replacement.

Then we said that due to his enormous ego we bet he probably wasn't/couldn't bring himself to.

We were wrong weren't we.
It's bloody Elon. In 4 years time he'll be running for POTUS.

Lord help us.

Except Musk was born in South Africa and can't run. Stop scaremongering.

SnapdragonToadflax · 07/11/2024 09:33

Musk can't be President, he was born in South Africa. Thankfully. Obviously he can fund everything behind the scenes though. And I suppose Trump could change the law.

A depressing thought - he's not even old.

So you don't think we should pay any mind to the world's richest man elbowing his way into potential office given his regressive attitudes towards women and anyone considered "other" by him and his ilk?

Interesting......

I don't think thats what the poster meant at all.

Mosalahiwoukd · 07/11/2024 08:42

What the world really needed was more old, rich white privileged white guys in charge… for a 2nd there it looked as if we were slowly moving towards a society where women had more of a voice, something approaching actual equality. But phew!
here we are with the egomaniacs firmly holding their places of power. Next stop, Mars! Let’s face it, the earth is fucked.

What the world needs is more anti-white racism from progressives 😂

I’ve long thought this supposed exodus to Mars by the tech billionaires was an Ayran endeavour.
