Good experiences from conceiving in 30s?

Hiya!
DH and I held off on conceiving as we wanted to get our finances sorted before having children. We both had rough childhoods and wanted better for our kids than what we had.

It's definitely just anxiety but I've read horror stories of women having issues trying to conceive (I'm 30, will be 31 when TTC probably). Please would love some good stories to ease my mind? Have spoken to the doctor about coming off BC and have had blood tests done which she is happy with

In England and Wales the average age of a 1st time mother is 30.9 and father is 33.8.
I think over 35 I would be worried, at 30/31 I wouldn't be. Come off any hormonal contraception, take contraception vitamins and get yourself as fit and health as you can, this will give you the best chance of conceiving quickly

If you're a type a personality (me too 🙋‍♀️) the lack of control is the hardest thing about TTC.... i just controlled everything I could (diet, amount of sex, rest, vitamins etc). I was 35 when I had my first and 38 with my second and my DH is a lot older than yours

Yes! Definitely type a! I know I drive my DH mad with questions and my research haha!

Relax, honestly! People seem to over-think and over-problematise conceiving in your 30s. Starting in your 40s might be time to have some concern (but still perfectly possible) but 30s is really not an issue, just go for it, don't drive yourself mad about things you're 'supposed to do' for fertility and so on.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 06/11/2024 09:17

31 through a condom
Accidentally, and 35 first time tried

@Cheshireicecream I struggle with not being in control of things I suppose, something I'm working on. I've done some researching on TTC and have seen conceiving in 30s being referred to as geriatric 😳

You're incredibly young. Chances are high that you will conceive within six months of regular unprotected sex but you can follow the "sperm meets egg plan" (google it) to increase your chances of a quick conception

Thank you everyone. It seems like 30s really isn't that much different to 20s.

According to fertility experts it can be. Early 30's not so much, but 34+ can mean intervention is needed. I'd have hormonal bloods done. In couples were there were low fertility on both sides, by 30 the ship could have sailed. Individual fertility varies. I never carried to term after 30 and struggled to get pregnant after having my children in my 20's. You won't be able to control how your pregnancy or birth goes. Then your child's development etc, so you really need to work on any control issues. Your DH won't be the exact same parent as you and that can have an effect on your relationship. Although I do appreciate that control can come from a place of anxiety as a trauma/neglect response.

Didimum · 06/11/2024 08:54

Can you address your anxiety, OP? Rather than focussing it on conceiving? Because conception in your 30s is entirely unremarkable. The median age for a woman to have her first child as of 2024 is 32yrs old.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 06/11/2024 08:49

The chances are you'll be completely fine, I was 37 and very overweight, and then 39 and still overweight and didn't struggle either time. Best of luck!

Hoppinggreen · 06/11/2024 08:45

I got pg very quickly at 32 with DD, literally DTD once after i came off the pill "to see what would happen"
It took about 6 months of trying at 36 to get pg with DS, I bought an ovulation indicator and saw that my fertility window wasn't what I thought. As soon as I adjusted that I got pg straight away

Borgonzola · 06/11/2024 08:40

Don't get wrapped up in horror stories if you can help it.

First time, 32, took 5 attempts. Short cycle so about 4 months.

Second time: just days after coil removed, wasn't even properly trying. Aged 35.

I'd say 90% of the many women I know with a child or children conceived in their 30s. I know very few women who had children in their 20s. I know one who had IVF due to various internal difficulties (not infertile, just not the normal anatomy) and one who took ages, not helped by being rail thin and very stressed all the time.

If you're really worried, get to know your cycle and when you ovulate, rather than overthinking your (young) age.

DreadPirateRobots · 06/11/2024 07:54

I conceived every single time we had unprotected sex in my fertile period. We started when I was 30. My first ever pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, but as soon as my period came back I got pregnant again and had a live birth.

ZenNudist · 06/11/2024 07:53

Took me 1 cycle at 31 to become pregnant.

Never got a period second time round at 35. Just fell pregnant straight away.

Londonrach1 · 06/11/2024 07:49

I got pregnant at 41. Pretty much most of the mums at dd school would have got pregnant in their 30s, a few in their 20s and a few in their 40s including one who had a surprise dd at 44.

I was pregnant at 34 recently (1st try!) and I asked if it was classed as geriatric yet and they said no. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 31 isn't too old to conceive at all!

Is this a joke post? Literally everyone I know had their children in their thirties

Of course it isn't. I'm the only one who had children so late in my family. My friends are all over 30, family none.

Had my three at 38, 40 and 42 with no problems

May I ask your health? I've had one at 37 and would love another 2 but feel a little unhealthy.

DreamW3aver · 06/11/2024 07:08

Where do you live that you don't know that it's totally normal to have children over 30? Whatever you've been reading must be decades out of date

One point to be aware of though is that your own fertility is totally unconnected with anyone else's, nothing that you read here will affect what happens to you

GreyCarpet · 06/11/2024 07:08

I had my second at 31. Didn't even consider there might be an issue with conceiving at that age and caught first month of trying.

My sister in law had their child at 36. Tbh, I know loads of women with adult children who didn't meet their partners until late twenties and so weren't even ttc until their early 30s.

I had my first at 24, 26 years ago, and I was one of the younger ones. When he started school, I was late 20s. A lot of his school friends' mums were late 30s. So lots of babies born to women in their early/mid 30s!

I don’t think 31 is anything to worry about specifically but this is also one of those situations where other people's experiences won't really help you because everyone's fertility is unique to them

BumpyaDaisyevna · 06/11/2024 07:06

I was 34 and 36 and it happened for us first month of trying both times.

That said I was a late starter with periods (15) and am late to menopause (I'm 50 and still very regular) so don't know if that has any bearing. In the sense I might have been late to lose fertility too.

I think there's a big difference between 30s and 40s.

Lovemybunnies · 06/11/2024 07:04

36 and 39 and two healthy babies.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/11/2024 07:03

I was 33 and conceived after 1 month
