Good experiences from conceiving in 30s?

Hiya!
DH and I held off on conceiving as we wanted to get our finances sorted before having children. We both had rough childhoods and wanted better for our kids than what we had.

It's definitely just anxiety but I've read horror stories of women having issues trying to conceive (I'm 30, will be 31 when TTC probably). Please would love some good stories to ease my mind? Have spoken to the doctor about coming off BC and have had blood tests done which she is happy with

Took us 4 years to conceive but I became pregnant at 31, so you should be fine.

wildfellhall · 06/11/2024 11:45

I had first baby at 36 and second at 43 (!). It took 2/3 years to conceive first time and a round of clomid helped for second baby.
It was very tough on the relationship.
I lost a pregnancy between these two. It was awful I've mostly blocked it out. But so many women have miscarriages, which is what helped; I lived in mumsnet for a long time for the incredible support I got around all the fertility and miscarriage woe.

Now I come on to ask advice around dehumidifiers.

sunflowersngunpowdr · 06/11/2024 11:26

34/36/38 - no issues. Took no more than 2 months of trying for the first and less for subsequent.

bryceQ · 06/11/2024 10:43

I thought 29-33 was about average for a first baby? I was 29 when I had my son and the youngest mum at all the baby groups I went to

TwilightAb · 06/11/2024 10:42

I had my dc at 34 and 38. Got pregnant 1st month of trying both times. I realise this is incredibly lucky and for a lot of oeolle it takes a few months . I had another pregnancy that sadly ended at just 6 weeks but again that was 1st month of trying and then conceived my ds the month after. Good.luck!

Anxioustealady · 06/11/2024 10:35

I'm not OP but I've been feeling similar worries so I'm really grateful for the reassurance

I'm 30, just got married and not really trying or preventing currently.

I had a chaotic childhood so really wanted to be in a good financial situation before I had children, but you hear all these stories about egg freezing, IVF, leaving it too late... but it's so hard for women to get everything sorted financially and romantically by their mid 20s!

Heidi1976 · 06/11/2024 10:34

I was on contraception for 15 years (also have deep infiltrating endometriosis) and got pregnant first month off at 32.

MaltipooMama · 06/11/2024 10:07

Please try not to worry! I was 36 and had been on the injection for years, I came off because we knew we wanted children at some point and I wanted my body to get back to "normal", I came off the injection in the July and fell pregnant the following March my first month ovulating before my periods had even returned! Gave birth to a very healthy and overdue baby and I'm now pregnant at 38 with our second 😀 (and last! 😂)

mindutopia · 06/11/2024 10:05

That’s a perfectly normal age to TTC. Other than school friends who got knocked up in their teens and were on husband #2 by 30, I don’t really have any close friends who TTC in their 20s.

I had 3 pregnancies in my 30s (one of these was a mc) at 31 and 37 (mc was also at 37). All intentionally timed, got pregnant first or 2nd cycle every time. Pregnancies with my dc we’re both textbook easy and straightforward, and I had two home births with really no intervention. I wouldn’t be worrying about your age at all.

Namechangedforthis25 · 06/11/2024 10:00

30 is a totally normal age to conceive

some people do it quickly, some people have issues they need to try to resolve - you won’t know until you have tried so you might not be able to control that. But I don’t think your age should be an issue

user2848502016 · 06/11/2024 09:59

I had mine at 29 and 33. No issues conceiving. 30 doesn't even seem that old these days, my friend just had her 3rd at 41!
Good luck to you!

Esmereldapawpatrol · 06/11/2024 09:59

Got pregnant with both of mine in my 30's.
I had a miscarriage with my very first pregnancy but conceived again the month after. Second DC was first month of trying after having my coil removed.

Conceived at 35 and had a baby

SatinHeart · 06/11/2024 09:58

I conceived in 5 cycles age 33 and again in 6 cycles age 35.

In my area at least, a geriatric pregnancy is age 37 and above.

It is hard not being able to control TTC, but I would say age is definitely on your side OP!

TheYoungestSibling · 06/11/2024 09:58

I was 35/36 and it took us a while but we got there.

Listen to your body, learn more about your cycle. You may ovulate at the beginning or end of the "window of opportunity".

Ultimately, relax and take the pressure off, it's amazing how much difference that can make.

SummerBarbecues · 06/11/2024 09:56

Early 30s are very young. Most of the mums at DC school have babies late 20s and early 30s. You'll stand out if you have babies in your early 20s. I had mine at 36 and 39 and I didn't feel especially old compared to the other mums, just slightly older. You'll be totally fine.

GhosterPoster · 06/11/2024 09:55

Three times, first month all three times. Took me by surprise especially the first time, as all you hear is how long it takes. I think people don’t want to say when it’s been quick, for fear of upsetting people.

Good luck!

@Cheshireicecream I struggle with not being in control of things I suppose, something I'm working on. I've done some researching on TTC and have seen conceiving in 30s being referred to as geriatric 😳

Average age at birth in UK has been increasing and was 31 3 years ago.

Even when I had mine 35 years ago, you had to be 35 to be described as an “elderly primagravida”

rayofsunshine86 · 06/11/2024 09:54

I've got three kids, conceived age 30, 31 and 35. First time, every time.
If you're worried then you can have your hormone levels (FSG and AMH, I think they are) checked.

Good luck, OP. Don't wait too long, but I only say that because it's never the right time to have a baby.

Caroparo52 · 06/11/2024 09:52

Had my 2 beautiful daughters when I was 34 and 35. No problems. Quite common to have kids in 30's imo.

Coastallife36385 · 06/11/2024 09:51

I understand the anxiety. Try not to give it much headspace though. The trouble with TTC forums is that only people who struggle to conceive write on them, there’s no point in going there to say hey I conceived easily and everything is fine.

sixnearlyseven · 06/11/2024 09:49

I had my 6th,7th and 8th babies in my 30s. Age 32, I ttc for just over a year. Age 35, ttc about 3 months and number 8 was a surprise

24CRZZNKKA · 06/11/2024 09:47

DC1: pregnant after 9 months TTC at 32
DC2: pregnant after 5 months TTC at 34
DC3: pregnant after 4 years TTC at 40

A few miscarriages in between all the pregnancies too.

Good luck OP, you are young enough that I wouldn't panic too much but I know that's easier said than done.

Wordau · 06/11/2024 09:46

BadLuck2023 · 06/11/2024 09:25

Yes! Definitely type a! I know I drive my DH mad with questions and my research haha!

Wow relax, you're stressing about something that hasn't even happened yet. Stress is a major factor.

Also best to work on your control issues before TTC...

I conceived first time we tried at 32.

Conceived fairly easily at 35 as well.

Bramblecrumb · 06/11/2024 09:34

No one in my friendship group and wider cycle got pregnant until past 30, so this is a baffling idea to me. I'm definitely not regarded as a geriatric mum at the ripe old age of 32. For me, I got pregnant within a month of trying. I think it was Rhiannon Coslett who wrote a good piece about lots of fertility stats are based on French peasants from hundreds of years ago
