Good experiences from conceiving in 30s?

Hiya!
DH and I held off on conceiving as we wanted to get our finances sorted before having children. We both had rough childhoods and wanted better for our kids than what we had.

It's definitely just anxiety but I've read horror stories of women having issues trying to conceive (I'm 30, will be 31 when TTC probably). Please would love some good stories to ease my mind? Have spoken to the doctor about coming off BC and have had blood tests done which she is happy with

Got pregnant first time of trying three times from age 36 to 39. Am definitely average in terms of age at the school gate so I don't think your age will be a major factor

Heidi1976 · 27/05/2025 13:26

I came off the pill at 31 after being on it since a teen, it took one month for my cycle to re-establish (without spotting etc) and then I got pregnant. I also have stage 4 endometriosis. I was amazed to be honest.

lovehearts88 · 27/05/2025 13:00

There's usually no issue for most people getting pregnant in their 30's even early 40's. So unless you know either of you as prior issues then I wouldn't worry.

Oops sorry an old thread.

Conceptions at 36 and 38 here, conceived straight away after unprotected sex and had very healthy pregnancies and babies. (I'm a bit of a health and fitness junkie, if that makes a difference).

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 06/11/2024 18:09

I conceived the first month at 42. You really don't have anything to worry about at your age.

RedBulb · 06/11/2024 17:28

barring any unknown fertility issues, you should be absolutely fine.

I was the wrong side of my 30s with partner 5 years older, came off hormonal BC and it took about 6 months. I avoided getting forensic with cycles to keep the pressure off so that, plus body adjusting after BC out was probably why it took that long (and it’s not long really!)

Good luck OP!

May I ask your health? I've had one at 37 and would love another 2 but feel a little unhealthy.

My health was ok. I don't feel old yet (57)

protectthesmallones · 06/11/2024 14:21

Make sure you are putting the maximum you can afford either into stocks and shares ISAs or into your pension. Or both.

What we've found is that we now have four children at university or higher education and we are stretched very thin. With the realisation that in my 50's my health isn't so good and my future earning capacity is affected.

I'd not have these issues if my children were born in my 20's as I'd have an extra decade of earning and energy.

Just make sure, if needed, you can stop working your mid 50's. When I was having babies in my 30's it never occurred to me.

Notsandwiches · 06/11/2024 14:13

I had mine at 32, 40 and 42.

jolota · 06/11/2024 14:11

I was 29 when I conceived the first time and 33 this time.
The first time it took 6 months to get pregnant but we think we were just missing my ovulation window because we got pregnant immediately we used tests to work out when I was ovulating.
This time we used ovulation tests again and got pregnant immediately.
Stressing will just make the process miserable, try to not overthink it.
30s pregnancy is definitely not geriatric, that term is very outdated - my mum was considered geriatric when she had my sister at 34 but that was years ago.
Many people conceive naturally in their 30s & beyond.

Whatsitreallylike · 06/11/2024 14:01

I conceived first try at 32 and 35. No issues. Good luck

@Cheshireicecream I struggle with not being in control of things I suppose, something I'm working on. I've done some researching on TTC and have seen conceiving in 30s being referred to as geriatric 😳

My pregnancy at 36 was 12 years ago - I asked if I would need special treatment and they looked at me like I was mad.

StasisMom · 06/11/2024 13:58

I was 36 and conceived easily. Was my second pregnancy and I bloody hated being pregnant (also when I was 29) but I'd do it all over again to have my son.

lesterans · 06/11/2024 13:35

I had dd1 aged 38 and ds1 aged 42. Admittedly it took over a year to conceive dd1 amd we had some tests done, but in the end it happened naturally and we never needed any fertility treatment. Pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding were easy with both. Never had any miscarriages.
I had a pregnancy in between which had genetic abnormalities and we had to terminate - but the chances of the genetic issues were very rare and only slightly increased by age. On some forums I read about lots of women in their 20s going through the same thing, so it affects people of all ages.

PenelopeSkye · 06/11/2024 13:24

I read ‘The Inpatient Woman’s Guide to getting pregnant’ and it really helped dispel some of the myths around conception. Had my kids at 35, 37 and 39 (for first and third got pregnant within a few months of trying), weirdly second took a little longer.) I think if you’ve got fertility issues, you will probably struggle even if in your 20s, but if you haven’t, there is a very good chance you’ll get pregnant relatively easily in your 30s (obviously then even without fertility issues per se, it gets harder into late 30s and early 40s). I wouldn’t be worrying!

TwinklyAmberOrca · 06/11/2024 13:20

@BadLuck2023 the AVERAGE age of a first baby in the UK is 32!!

I had mine at 31 and 36. Conceived on first try. The first was conceived whilst on the pill as I'd taken antibiotics for a bladder/kidney infection and didn't read that they interfered with the pill!

Just go with the flow and try not to really think too much about it, but don't be afraid to seek medical intervention if it hasn't happened after a year or two.

notvsure · 06/11/2024 13:12

I was 34 when we conceived DD on attempt 2.
All of our NCT gang are all also in their mid 30's - there is def hope!

Whatifitallgoesright · 06/11/2024 13:10

Had mine a month shy of 38. All fine.

MammaTill2Pojkar · 06/11/2024 13:07

I have pcos but it only took 3 months to get pregnant with my first son (conceived age 30 born age 31) and around 1.5 months of trying with my second (conceived age 33 born age 34).

Paganpentacle · 06/11/2024 13:06

Just have sex and see what happens...
I had my first at 28, second at 33.
Didnt give it a second thought- got pregnant pretty much straight away.

Hellskitchen24 · 06/11/2024 12:51

I am 36, spent most of life on birth control, came off it, pregnant first time trying! Currently 14 weeks. 30s is normal. I had a scan yesterday and could see the date of birth of all the other women being scanned either before or after me, all of were in their 30s, some 40. People don’t really have babies “young” now.

Crushed23 · 06/11/2024 12:45

MyUmberSeal · 06/11/2024 05:56

Pregnant at 39, no issue at all. There are tons of threads on MN of women who get pregnant in their 40’s, 31 is no age at all! Don’t stress yourself out.

This.

I had to re-read the OP. Never heard of anyone without prior fertility issues worrying about conceiving at 30.

MidnightPatrol · 06/11/2024 11:55

The average age of first birth in the UK is over 30.

You’ll be fine.

dominique36 · 06/11/2024 11:53

I had my last baby at 32, and conceived ever so fast! With no problems whatsoever during pregnancy and the birth itself, with a super healthy baby! Try not to fret.
