ExH brought his dog in my house without permission

CfCfCftooMuch · 05/11/2024 19:08

ExH just dropped off his dog in my house. For me to look after, even though i had said no to looking after him. The dc let Exh and dog in when i was out. They love that dog and of course had no knowledge of anything.

ExH is gone now for two weeks. Abroad. He just walked out and took off to the airport, leaving dog behind.

I've got two dc and two cats and work long hours. The cats have never spent a night/day alone in the house with this dog. He is kind and mellow, but a large breed. Size of a wolf.
I've contacted a dog shelter and might have to go to go through rspca.

Posting to tell someone. This is just one of many many ways he always finds a way to use me or control my life. I didn't want any of this. And now im left here calling shelters (which im asked to pay for), calling womens aid, calling rspca, figuring out how to do this without upsetting the dc, texting exH to sort out care if he doesn't want me to take this further, posting here for support, trying to figure out tomorrow with sorting out the kids, my work, other stuff, business meeting and my actual day job. Honestly?! Wtf!!!

Call the dog warden in the morning and say the dog has been abandoned and you can't keep it. They will take it.

Poor dog. I get op doesn't want to look after it but poor dog.

Surely just drop it off with the dog warden/ a shelter and say you found it running away, no idea whose it is, nothing to do with you.

They'll scan it and get his details from the microchip and contact him. He'll then have to pay for the dogs care/ a fee to get it back when he comes home.

Dogs looked after, cats happy, ex pays the bill and you get to carry on with whatever you had planned for the next 2 weeks.

If he's away for 2 weeks, in that timeframe the shelter can legally dispose of an unclaimed dog. Ex might come home to find his dog has been put to sleep.

Therealjudgejudy · 05/11/2024 22:41

Op, he is some piece ofwork! @Scentedjasmin brilliant!

2024onwardsandup · 05/11/2024 22:40

@FlingThatCarrot that would be incredibly distressing for the dog. Unbelievably stressful
for it.

DiscoBeat · 05/11/2024 22:37

If it were me I would put it in kennels. He can pay when he gets back. Definitely don't let yourself into his house uninvited. Also if you're out for 9 hours you can't just leave the dog there. What a controlling thing to do, he sounds like an asshole.

I agree with this. You can’t leave the dog for hours or longer in an empty flat. You will cause it suffering and it is an innocent animal.

Fyi, you can change the settings so you don't get the notifications. That way, you won't be distracted when you're lecturing other people whilst having no idea what you're on about.

Cheers Soily 😘🍻

EvilMorty · 05/11/2024 22:37

Could you put a post on Facebook or local site saying “lost dog found on street, I have it here but looking for owner, I can’t keep it etc”

someone nice will volunteer to look after it, scan it, board it, they always do, and in two weeks he’ll be publicly shamed, plus there’s kind of a trail to where it’s gone?

Oh Soily, bless you 😂

The notifications from your quotes are stopping me from reading the full thread don’t you know.

But no, it’s okay, I’m not interested your hourly rate. Thanks though, appreciate it.

I’m more interested in you stopping quoting and notifying me so I can relax with a cuppa and read the full thread. Because that’s what you want me to do right?

Don't think you've quite understood how message boards work! But we can talk about my hourly rate, if you're that interested in commissioning me to post.

Re: doggy daycare. Dc said dog goes to a friends house when exh is at work. They don't know which friend and where. Exh lives in a flat. No garden. 2nd floor.

I would be sending him a picture like this telling him that you found a nice homeless man who had agreed to look after the dog in exchange for a place to stay for 2 weeks. Stage a photo of some disheveled man sleeping in his bed (ideally wearing his clothes).

Absolutely this!

@HolyPeaches @SoiledMyselfDuringSomeTurbulence how about you both pack it in and stop derailing the thread with your stupid argument

CfCfCftooMuch · 05/11/2024 22:30

@Scentedjasmin thank you 😄 I love this

Noted, I’ll read the full thread right now from the start. And to the OP: I apologise profusely for my completely useless comment and “preaching” 🙏

I look forward to reading all your future posts that quote everyone else suggesting Kennels or other “completely useless” ideas.

Please stop quoting me now Soily.

You can't leave that poor dog 9 hours. He would need someone to take him for a walk but as he's not your responsibility and you know he won't pay he has abandoned the dog.

HolyPeaches · 05/11/2024 22:26

Huskies don’t normally shed. Are her kids allergic? I don’t think she said they were, I suggested it as the kids are used to the dog/share it with their father I assumed. Whereas the cats aren’t.

my dog moults like crazy but at this time of year I let her in the bedroom as she’s terrified of fireworks.

"Huskies don't normally shed" Really? You clearly know nothing.

They DO shed, they shed LOTs, especially if its moulting season when they blow their coat.

There is being firm and being a doormat your being a doormat you need to be firm you said no tell the kids no unless you want them to grow up just like him? Or are you afraid they will go to him if you say no? (Because honestly that would be the only thing that would make me be a doormat to my ex)

It's not "being a doormat" to not want a dog (or your DC) to suffer because your ex is being a cunt, it's called being a decent person. As this thread has extensively made clear, it's obviously not as simple as just saying no at this point, she still has to do something with the dog. OP has been put in a really difficult situation, and it isn't her fault, and there's nothing shameful about not wanting to stoop to her ex's level of callousness. Stop victim blaming.

Chickennuggetjules · 05/11/2024 22:22

lasagnelle · 05/11/2024 22:19

Why would she let a fluffy husky dog sleep in her kids room. That's going to be awful fluff everywhere

Stop the negativity while she's trying to make hard decisions in real time.

She's showing her children how to be resourceful and compassionate in the face of unjust behaviour. That's not being a doormat. It's great parenting IMHO.
