There is an idiot near us who walks one off lead without a muzzle round the little residential streets near us – always full of children out playing

This is against the law. Please take photos and report them to the relevant people.

I think in a way it’s quite a good statement . Anyone thinking their XLBully is sweet and loving and has a great relationship with their kids might think twice reading that ie even the ones that are ( supposedly) softies can turn. I wouldn’t want to walk past one on my own or with a child, god knows how people have them in their house!

Edited

I refuse to walk past them with my kids.
I've offended a few dog owners by very obviously crossing the road to avoid walking past their dogs, but I couldn't care less about their hurty feelings when I'm considering the safety of my children.

oakleaffy · 04/11/2024 19:14

Here is a video of an XL Pit attack on an innocent mailman.
Anti dog spray didn't work.

It's terrifying {Over 6 minutes to get the dog off}

To put this in perspective more people are killed or maimed by horses than dogs in the UK.

This reminds me of American gun owners who think "More people are killed by cars than by guns, but no one wants to ban cars" is an intelligent argument.

I hope you’ve reported them? That must actually be really scary 😦

Put every single one of them down if it means no child (or adult) will be killed by one again. It’s just not worth the risk. There is no need to have this breed of dog.

I’m going to make a controversial statement here but no I don’t feel sorry for the parents.

I'd go one further and have them charged with manslaughter.

Knowingly having such a dangerous animal around your child, yet another pair of idiots that 'saved' a dog by buying it off gumtree.

There will be a fluffy go fund me set up soon
That's exactly the kind of shameless half wits these pathetic excuse for parents will be, and everyone knows it.

A Go Fund Me would make my blood boil

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/11/2024 19:09

Talk about having to learn the hard way that these dogs are dangerously unpredictable. That poor girl. How many more people will have to learn the hard way before these dogs are made illegal, full stop?

Cattery · 04/11/2024 19:09

These dogs are wankers owned by wankers

Definitely need involuntary collection of all these beasts and a cull.

From falls most often.

Equestrians can wear protective helmets and other body protection - horses may occasionally nip or kick, but they are not dangerous in the way an XL Bully is.

To say ''But horses...'' is ludicrous.

Horses are not generally putting members of the public at risk by biting, unless their name happens to be Ormonde of the Household Cavalry- and Ormonde only nips if people get into his personal space.

I was NOT prepared to see that!

I agree that is one god awful injury. Shocking

We should perhaps send it to our MP's

BelgianBiscuit · 04/11/2024 19:02

@oakleaffy what a gorgeous hound.

I don't think many people could hold one back if it lunges with intent. And yes, it is usually a weedy guy who doesn't stand a chance.

There is the worry that they'll get a bite sleeve on Amazon and become their own decoy, so we offer basic obedience sessions. They usually pose next to our banners for a TicTok post then are never seen again after a few weeks.

Justcallmebebes · 04/11/2024 19:01

Why are people "so sad for the family"? Is this the same family that brought an adult banned, dangerous dog into the home? "The family" should be charged with manslaughter as far as I am concerned. Not like they weren't on notice

Recently, a 12 yr old Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 girl had an unmuzzled XL Bully attack her as she got out of the family car.

Her father managed to get it off her and her mother said had he not, their daughter could have been killed

Here is what ONE bite did to her arm.

They want to share the image to warn people. {Covered as it's distressing}

I saw one of these awful dogs up close (and reported it as it was in a house with a newborn and small children). It was massive and terrifying to look at, even though it was caged. Why anyone would want one in their house and around children is absolutely beyond me

Temporaryname158 · 04/11/2024 19:00

I’m going to make a controversial statement here but no I don’t feel sorry for the parents.

I feel incredibly sorry for the poor child who had a hideous death, I feel sorry for her wider family, school friends and other who her life touched. However her parents knowingly bought an animal into the home of a type that they KNOW has killed children and adults, that they KNOW has been a massive news/debate topic and which they know needed to be registered and muzzled in public. Yet knowing they had a child they bought it into the home. I’m sick of parents crocodile tears afterwards and people feeling sorry for them. this happened directly due to them and there is nobody else to blame but themselves

CoffeeLover90 · 04/11/2024 18:59

This ban hasn't been taken seriously. They're still out and about, no muzzle and as PPs have said, dragging their owners along. RSPCA, police, council, even the MP have been informed. Nothing is done.
If it's true this one has been introduced to the family 'recently' how? The ban was supposed to stop this.
I love dogs, I've had them all my life until my last one passed a few years ago. Most were terriers, a couple of labs, a whippet and I didn't trust any of them. I loved them all immensely. But I knew they could turn at any time, I respected that. I wouldn't have a dog I couldn't physically control if needed.

We're expected to spend hundreds, even thousands, to learn how to drive. Many more thousands spent on insurance, fines for wrong doing, ceased licence for serious or repeated offences.
But any idiot can get a dog. Any dog.
And a family loses a loved one.
It's just tragic.

"One of the lines of inquiry relates to the behaviour of the dog to help explain, as far as possible, why it attacked the girl.
"All indications so far suggest it was out of character, with the girl and dog having a close, loving relationship."

I cannot get over the stupidity of this statement from North Yorkshire police. Do they not think before they speak?Analysing a dog FFS, like too many dog owners they think they're the dog-whisperer. I like dogs but I don't assume I can read their minds and guarantee their actions. Dog was a killer, that's it.

The parents need to be sent to prison. Their DD died a painful death due to them being hard-headed idiots.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 04/11/2024 18:58

I think there's a big element of defensiveness. People refuse to accept they've put their family at risk by bringing a breed known for attacking into their home. They have to deny there's a risk otherwise they're admitting they brought the risk into theur home.

I’ve considered carrying a little mini hairspray. Not sure how much good it would do

I have a small tin of the boots version of deep heat spray - its a smaller tin than deep heat but will burn eyes etc and obvs I only have it in my dog walking bag for my knees...

Packetofcrispsplease · 04/11/2024 18:57

Toastandbutterand · 04/11/2024 16:53

Does anyone know if they loudly growl/bark when they attack?

One of my neighbours has one, always muzzled and on a lead. I'm very wary of it, but the neighbour has complied with all the laws, gone above and beyond. They adopted it from a shelter before the ban.

Another neighbour swears it attacked her, but she's only got a tiny scratch and when she started screaming the dog had attacked her it was in its garden and was just sat there.
Wouldn't it it still have been barking or something?

Sorry to derail, I know nothing about dogs!

I would be very wary of this neighbourhood dog however if this woman has a small scratch then she wasn’t attacked .
she may have been jumped on , dogs nails can scratch accidentally which isn’t great , their nails need trimming

Oldseagull · 04/11/2024 18:57

One rule with any dog - even a Yorkie or a toy breed - is never, NEVER leave it along with a child. Dogs are carnivores and one should remember that.

It baffles me that people even struggle with this concept. Perhaps they watched too much Tarzan or Dr. Dolittle as a child and now believe they have a mystical ability to commune with anthropomorphic dogs.

We have a rescued chihuahua mix, loves people and children, never had a single aggressive incident, has all her kc good citizen awards.

But as much as I love her she is still an animal, one whose behaviour I could never predict with 100% certainty.

So she is never left alone with children, and when we have very young children visit she is seperated from them by a baby gate into the kitchen while they play on the floor.
