I’ll start.

That having a one syllable first name and surname is an absolute no no.

OP posts:
Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/11/2024 14:24

I have learned (from my thigh rubbing and cries of 'oh, goodie!') that I am a real nosy parker about other people's lives and particularly their parking problems (as long as there is a diagram).

WetBandits · 02/11/2024 14:20

Oh, and that having a tattoo is a sure sign that someone is a wrong’un and that no tattooed person could ever amount to much Grin

VioletCrawleyForever · 02/11/2024 14:19

I thought it was only porn stars that shaved their pubes

I never knew how uptight and crazy the English attitude is to kids playing out in comparison to the relaxed attitude of Scots.

I never knew that some people deep clean their houses several times a day.

WetBandits · 02/11/2024 14:17

That other people don’t answer the phone or door, and that toilet brushes are frowned upon. How do they get rid of skids?!

My suspicion that many people hate nurses (or just think we are ‘failed doctors’) was confirmed, though Grin

That people are that bothered with middle names that they need strangers advice to choose one - if you can't think of a middle name then don't bother. (I think middle names are pointless...)

Yes! Middle names, in my opinion, are to honor friends or family. You choose one that means something to your life, not just pick a random name out of thin air.

If there isn't one that means something, don't bother with one.

Jollyjoy · 02/11/2024 14:13

And my contribution is that I didn’t know MN was full of quick witted and hilarious posters like the one who picked up the funny typo! I feel we don’t get as many laugh out loud these days as I did at that.

And so so many things. MN is an eduction.

That penis portions is a thing and not just done in my family.

I do not know what this thing is and wonder, do I want to?

That I'm the world's worst mum because I got my daughters ears pierced at Claire and I should have my kids removed by ss because I teach them to pronounce H as aitch

But H is correctly pronounced aitch. ??🫤

The true meaning of the word staycation 😂 and the fact that if someone posts about a U.K. holiday but have used the word staycation the entire thread will be derailed by every other poster telling the OP she’s using the wrong word.

Oh my god, that thread (maybe there's more than one 🤔) was ridiculous with the derailing about Staycation. And the vehemence with which people argued.

vegaspot · 02/11/2024 14:07

That the word 'boundaries ' does not just apply to land 😒

Attelina · 02/11/2024 14:05

I learnt that many people go through life getting in all kinds of predicaments over parties, weddings, play dates, dating, shopping, relatives etc because they can't say the word 'No'! or 'No thank you!'

That some people don't clean their toilets properly with a toilet brush and bleach or cleaning fluid.

This is certainly true. There’s a current thread from a granny whose 7 year old grandson came home without his school coat. Rather than thinking that this is the kind of mildly annoying mix up that happens literally all the time with young children and that it will show up in lost property or back on his peg on Monday, that OP and one or two others on the thread are immediately leaping to the conclusion that the coat has been stolen, and that the nefarious thieving other parents will refuse to return it, if confronted and have gone all DEFCON.

The frenzy often whipped up out of nowhere is off the scale. Pages and pages of foaming over nothing.

How did you know? This is literally my first post.. 😕

But who's going to be the first over to Baby Names with it? Grin

Usnone · 02/11/2024 13:59

That a surprising number of people have family & friends they can't be themselves with / are afraid to be honest with.

AnnaDelvorkina · 02/11/2024 13:58

What are the fanny tablets, please? I have Trophigil but they’re not great.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 02/11/2024 13:56

Several things

People don't answer the door/phone
Toilet brushes are evil
How half the population has anxiety, especially health anxiety
That dog owners genuinely don't seem to realise that dogs have a "smell" no matter how often they are bathed.
That people are weird about finger food/buffets

Also that people don't answer the fucking door if they don't have anyone scheduled to visit... Always makes me think wtf.

I'm one of those people. My son bought me a ring door bell I fucking hate it 🤣

Itsallgoingtopot · 02/11/2024 13:47

About the existence of Fanny tablets (Gina) and Vaginal atrophy!

Life changer. Me and my rekindled bedroom shenanigans will be forever in your debt mumsnet!
