I’ll start.

That having a one syllable first name and surname is an absolute no no.

The police will come to your home at 5am if you report a light left on, milk out of the fridge and tiny spots on your cistern.

Many people got furious about this but it turned out to be justified. A neighbour had been breaking in and stealing stuff.

Like what?

My pregnant neighbour was alone, her husband had the car and was at work. She developed a severe pain and needed someone to drive her to the hospital. I was the only neighbour who answered the door, and drove her there. Others were at home.
Secondly, I saw a debit card on someone's drive, next to the car. I could see and hear people through the window, but no-one answered the door. I didn't want to leave it, so reported it to the bank who thanked me and told me to cut it up.
Just two examples, out of many.

Right. What if it's something important?

And my contribution is that I didn’t know MN was full of quick witted and hilarious posters like the one who picked up the funny typo! I feel we don’t get as many laugh out loud these days as I did at that.

And so so many things. MN is an eduction.

This! Come on OP nobody is laughing at you - tilypu could be the start of a whole classic thread!

I have to go down a flight of stairs to answer the door. It's a problem to me. I don't want to go down the stairs and find out it's someone asking for money or someone promoting a religion. If it's someone I know, they'll call.

Right. What if it's something important?

EmpressOfTheThread · 02/11/2024 15:37

It might not be though.
Plus - we had JWs call round recently, asked if I wanted to hear about their faith, so I politely declined and they said thank you and went on their way.
Really, not a problem.

Creates the illusion of shadows under the eyes.
I've never used a moon cup in my life. Always used tampons.

I have never noticed the shadow thing on myself or others!

EmpressOfTheThread · 02/11/2024 15:38

I didn't know that Irish people give massive amounts of money as wedding gifts. They really are very generous.

username7891 · 02/11/2024 15:26

I don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone. It's not because I'm scared, it's because it will be someone trying to get money out of me or a Jehovah Witness.

It might not be though.

It's some kind of sin to put mascara on your lower lashes (why??)
Everyone uses mooncups or pads. Does nobody use tampons?
Many posters have keyboards with the comma, full stop and return buttons missing
Or they are using American keyboards which have the 'u' button missing ("my neighbor put the wrong color bin out last night")

Also, how often people change/don't change their bedding.

I know a bloke, 40s, professional, lovely, intelligent etc who changes his sheets about once every 6 months at the most. Longer probably but I'm being generous. Grim.

That my daughter was autistic.

I found out about Boden when I joined MN in 2004 - had never heard of it before then.

Thinking of the various threads I've been on, you won't be the only one ( ref your daughter ). That's one of the great things about MN and sharing information.

No, surely just black or white?

At various times green, red and anything that might be a bit pale have been touted. Along with various styles for being "too much flesh", "too long", "too dressy", "not dressy enough", "cheap", "too much to spend for one event". .

Allfur · 02/11/2024 15:29

No, surely just black or white?

Gosh, no, according to Mn. Green is unlucky, red is a coded way of saying you’ve shagged the groom, you can’t wear a colour similar to the bridesmaids’ dresses, you can’t wear a cream, pink, blue or yellow so pale that it might look white in photos. Nothing too sexy, nothing too short, nothing too casual, nothing too bare-shouldered in church. I’m sure there are lots of others.

Also usage, see "that's totally cringe" or "she's just cringe". It's cringeworthy!

There are about 20 different colours and styles which you can't wear to a wedding and you should be shamed for thinking otherwise

No, surely just black or white?
