To think in ten years all these huge veneers and huge lips will be seriously dated?

Eek, watching tv these days it's a sea of huge symmetrical bright white veneers.
So many of them look like they have got a teeth guard in when they are sucking on them.
Most of them just look really terrible and I dread to think what their long term teeth issues will be.
Add in the huge lips and filler faces and really it's a bit black mirror with all these faces looking the same. I know the lip filler can be dissolved but is that the same for all over the face? Will people be able to go back to how they were before once the filler blindness passes?
I've been watching old movies and the difference with natural teeth is quite something, it changes the natural shape of your face and everyone looks more individual .
Aibu or will it all look so dated in ten years and all these huge horsey veneers go out of fashion?
Or am I just getting old Grin

I agree...and I think all of us who plucked our eyebrows in to submission 20 years ago now have regret, and a massive issue with not being able to grow eyebrows enough to keep up with current trends! Can't even imagine what will happen to people's looks/skin when this trend eventually ends!

We are pointing out that they look fake cheap and insecure.
Whereas Wrinkles are a life lived.
A life of being true to yourself and confident to live your life in the way you want.
Not worried about what others think and definitely not injected their faces with foreign material they could lead to serious side effects

Or equally, a lifetime of worrying too much, poor nutrition and overexposure to the sun.

Such a lot of hate! Predominantly women tearing down other women, which is always uncomfortable and disappointing.

If you don't like a trend, there's no reason to freak out about it. It really doesn't affect you at all - some people on here seem to be almost gleefully hoping that people with veneers or filler age badly, look "dated" or sag. How horrible!

You're aware that men have these awful fake teeth too and that's been mentioned a lot on this thread?

What I find uncomfortable and disappointing are posts like yours, which try to shut down other women's opinions on this predominately female website.

#BeKind anyone?

No thanks.

I have seen some really nice veneers / crowns which look great.
The issue is that people choose the biggest and whitest veneers/ crowns which doesn’t fit their face because they are one size fits all.
My pet peeve is the drag like makeup which is horrendous. Thankfully , this seems to be going out of fashion.

@Lampzade Were your natural teeth ground down down to have the veneers fitted? Can you ever go back to your natural teeth if you change your mind, or is it irreversible? That’s the part that scares me, tbh.

I've wondered about this. Because surely the skin stretches? So if you don't keep topping it up, would you get saggy lips? Confused

Yes according to my (very knowledgeable about all things beauty related) hairdresser this is exactly what happens.

Have you read Chrissie Hynde's interviews were she blames the 13 year old groupies for being sexually exploited by David Bowie/the stones and others? She absolutely victim blames children. Siouxsie and her wearing of a swastika and other nazi symbols. She later said that she didn't know much about the holocaust/Nazis, very intelligent. Are you really claiming that Debbie Harry didn't play the 'sex for sale' game?

I'm nearly 60, I'm just wondering how in your perfect world, you've got so bitter that you want the NHS to tell people to fuck off and that they end up saggy and baggy.
Unfortunately for you, they won't, so you'll have to find something else to get morally outraged about.
@Howdidtheydothatyour teenager laughs at adult women in the street and you think it's ok?

Sorry, I haven’t made my point clear. I’m not saying I agree with everything every woman in that pic has said or done. But it was an attitude they inspired in terms of being attractive on their own terms.

I didn’t say anything about the NHS. And I’m certainly not morally outraged.

whatsthatwordagainfeet · 01/11/2024 23:48

I think they are already becoming dated. Molly-Mae who is pretty huge in the tiktok/Instagram influencer sphere was very open about having all her filler dissolved. She looks a million times better.

I’m not a fan of the veneer/filler look. Same with fake boobs. I find some of it quite grotesque. But if it’s what people want to do, I wouldn’t judge them for it. As long as they’re happy.

I’m glad I was inspired by women who struggled off looking ‘conventionally desirable’ and were attractive because their personality, intelligence and creativity shone through.

Veneers are not one size fits all. So people might choose the wrong size - but that’s a choice, not because one size fits all

Properly done veneers are individual to each persons mouth and teeth. They are custom.

Im on my second set since the mid 90s (don’t get me started on why I “needed” them as an early teen). My first set was crap, but my second set was full on name brand. This was in the time of all the Hollywood stars getting them. Unless people are lying liars, no one notices that mine are veneers.

I’ve seen a few media reports recently referencing the number of 30 somethings needing facelifts because of stretched skin post fillers. Sooner it goes out of fashion the better.

30 somethings? Don't you mean 20 somethings? I'm on my late 30s, and grew up with none of this; it didn't exist!

I have a tenuous connection to the chap that did Rylan’s teeth.

I work with some girls in their 20s who would definitely look very beautiful but they look so odd because of all the unnecessary work they've had done. I feel like the industry preys on the insecurity or young women and they think it's what they have to do, but honestly they look worse, especially lip fillers.

I'm 10 years older and have friends who IMO look much better just because they've looked after themselves and have only minimal botox. Fillers look always fake from what I see and give me the ick.

MsCactus · 01/11/2024 23:22

There's a TikTok going round where they do a CT scan of a face which has had fillers.

They've found that it doesn't dissolve properly - it migrates and gathers in the face and the body, often lots drops to the jaw, and that's why people get a puffy/big jawed look if they've had filler, even if they've not had it for a couple of years. You see it in some celebs.

It's really shocking and looks bad - but they've now found most filler doesn't leave your body, it just moves around

🤢

Are many people really doing the buccal removal thingy? It sounds extreme.

I can't imagine many people actually signing up for it. For what? Why would you want to lose the natural fat and padding in an area of your face?!

Many actors seem to do it. It's quite ageing, in my view.

I work with a few nurses who've had lips, botox and fillers done. In their 40s and 50s. It looks so obvious, doesn't even make them look any better. Looks shit tbh.

5128gap · 01/11/2024 21:14

Most filler dissolves in 18 months to 2 years so if they stop having it they will go back to their old selves. That applies wherever they have the filler. The teeth I think are for good. I've seen pictures of the process and they grind the natural teeth down to put the veneers on so there'd be no going back from that. They'll just have to have crooked, chipped and off white veneers instead if the natural tooth look comes in. I'll be right there for that, ahead of the curve!

Of course, just like every other trend including all the ones you embraced.

watching Friends recently I kept noticing the plucked eyebrows, they look absurd now but were the norm (as I can attest - having done it myself) for young women in the 90s.

Victoriancat · 01/11/2024 23:21

I don't understand the lips at all, I had an absolutely stunning friend who has gone down the surgeru route. It's like she got to her mid 30s and panicked, now she has one of the stretched shiny botox faces and ridiculous lips, i have family members that have all that done too, at over the age of 50!

StoneColdAlibi · 01/11/2024 23:02

Please stop your son from laughing at women's appearances, it's a horrible path for a young man to be treading and for you to be seemingly encouraging.

Also, it's filler that gives duck lips, not Botox.

exactly ^ embarrassing bragging that your child thinks it’s funny to laugh at someone’s appearances

knitnerd90 · 01/11/2024 23:18

I've had my teeth done (crowns, not veneers) because of significant decay, and in my opinion they look very good, because I didn't make them look ridiculous. They look like teeth you'd get with good orthodontia (or very good genes) and hygiene and perhaps a bit of Colgate whitening toothpaste. They're not oversized, they're off white, and they're straight but not exaggeratedly so. Also, I've had absolutely nothing else done (the teeth were my one vanity. I am cheap.)

The trends now are for this very over the top style and I don't think it ages well at all. Even with serious actors, they get pressured to do this, and keep it up, and they hit this terrible uncanny valley stage. Between the Botox and the fillers and the buccal fat removal (don't do it, it looks good at 25 and horrible at 45) their faces are frozen.

What people on reality TV do is on another level. If you compare Taylor Swift now to when she was 19, you can tell she's had some work done, but if you didn't compare, she looks like it could be natural, or within the range of possible. Reality TV show people often do it on the cheap and go for this deliberately fake look. And as someone who did her teeth and paid a pretty penny for it, I can tell you that doing cheap veneers is penny wise and pound foolish.

The advent of HD and 4K TV has also ratcheted things up for Hollywood. If you watch a film from the 1980s now, you can see that people don't have perfect skin. The makeup doesn't cover it up. Nowadays, they make themselves up so you can't tell in high-resolution photos and film. That look is hard enough to pull off with a professional makeup artist. When you do it yourself, you probably won't do a good job.
