Women being nasty/body shaming other women

Ive just seen an article in the Daily Mail with a headline intending to body shame.
It really angers me.
I know everyone says what do you expect from journalists especially something like the Daily Mail.
But seriously in this day and age with so much focus on being kind and issues surrounding peoples mental health you would think this horrible attitude would stop.

The article is about Lauren from Only way is Essex and is clearly written in a way for people to mock her. Its so nasty especially as Lauren has spoken up only recently about how low she feels.

The fact that its another woman doing this for some reason makes me feel even angrier.

Ive posted the article on here just to show how awful journalists are and hope that Journalists like this will eventually be called out and cancelled.

It’s hate baiting. Even though the article doesn’t mention anything negative about her it’s deliberately been put out there to attract clicks and nasty comments. They know many people don’t like her. Also, as a woman with a massive arse, I would not be happy if someone put an unflattering picture taken of me from behind like that. It was probably chosen as one of the less nicer pics they could have used. It’s very mean girl. Newspapers tend to do this since Caroline Flack. They won’t put out negative stuff about people themselves, but leave the comments open for the bullying trolls to do it for them.

DontCallMeKidDontCallMeBaby · 01/11/2024 17:15

I’m ‘on about’ the comments you posted to demonstrate how awful the article was. The ones by men? You screenshot and shared them. The people who actively commented on her body were men. The title of your post was why do ‘women’ say nasty things etc. Even your own posts demonstrated that this was an ‘everyone’ issue. I was questioning why you were so fixated on ‘women’ being awful, when your own posts show the men behaving worse.

This could have been a thread about how the media manipulates us into thinking certain things (eg how you assumed that the ‘looking good’ was negative, because Lauren doesn’t meet your standards of attractive). Or how the tone of an article dictates the comment section.

But now it’s turned into a strange vendetta against the journalist, who I suspect you have issues with on real life. There was absolutely no reason to share her contact details. I can only presume you did that in the hope people would get in touch with her. Why?

A women's worst enemy is another woman. The most judgmental opinions are from other women. Just like you have done op.

How on earth can women being judgemental about other women make them worse enemies than men, with the things men do to women? And if you think that it's only women who judge women's appearance...well, I don't know where to start with that one.

Anyone who doesn't see this article for what it is, is either spectacularly naive or blind.

Or Male

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 16:56

@DontCallMeKidDontCallMeBaby what are you on about???
A lady wrote the article!!!

Well the reporters name is on it so I'm going to call her out. She shouldn't put her name to it if its not how she intended the article to come across

Not the men who actually said the bad things though eh? Couldn’t possibly be their fault. Poor lambs, being led astray and forced to say awful things, by that pesky woman.

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 16:53

@InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom not at all.
I dont know her. Ive just seen her work whiich i think is unkind.

Sounds like you have a personal vendetta against the journalist now tbh.

@DontCallMeKidDontCallMeBaby i am absolutely frustrated at men as well. But this article was written by a woman. I think its worse when a woman body shames as we all understand how judged we are by men and society.

But again, the article doesn’t mention her body. The link mentions her appearance. Your lack of media literacy meant that you didn’t understand that it wasn’t written by the reporter, now you do. So we have no idea who male or female wrote it. The only body shaming comments that you’ve posted can be attributed to men in the comments. We need to stop holding women accountable for men’s bad behaviour.

@MartinCrieffsLemon i'm 'missing' the irony because there isnt any.
Anyway lets agree to disagree 🙂

Roll your eyes all you like.
I saw an average looking woman doing an every day boring task.

What did you see?

What I saw were some extremely unflattering photographs of an average woman with a head line that misrepresented her as 'looking good', in a tedious and typical attempt to encourage comments disagreeing she looks good. The woman does not look good in those pictures. If they were taken by her mate on their phone they'd have deleted them and gone again. A professional photographer could have used angles and taken shots that made this average looking woman look great had that been the intent behind the article. It was not.

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 16:29

Ive heard of it before.

There is no irony.

Yep

You are completely missing the irony

Using the word 'beams' as a caption to photos where the person clearly does not have a beaming smile, and where one of the photos is of her arse, is obviously intended to denigrate and poke fun at someone's appearance.

We all know what 'broad in the beam' means, and they have deliberately used the word 'beams' to describe her back view.

YANBU @Autumnlovelove - that rag is a disgrace.

I've literally never heard "broad in the beam" used so I think you're wrong that it's an obvious connection

CharlotteLucas3 · 01/11/2024 16:25

Crikey there are some naive people on this thread. This passive aggression has just replaced the obvious shaming.

And they get away with it because of all the gaslighting flying monkeys 🙄

Your perception is completely correct op.

5128gap · 01/11/2024 16:21

I agree OP. The woman's bottom in those trousers is obviously a long way from what our society and media typically present to us as 'looking good'. I've seen it before, with older women quite obviously looking their age, in an unflattering light in swimwear, with a headline calling them 'age defying' or some such nonsense. It's just fodder for mysogynists (internalised and otherwise).

Still not getting the irony are you?

Yes, men are not photographed like this, it's an absolute invasion of that woman's privacy and that of her daughter too.

Incorrect

Brendan Fraiser, for example, was hounded for ages when he put on weight with unflattering photographs and snide headlines. He became severely depressed because of it

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 16:11

DontCallMeKidDontCallMeBaby · 01/11/2024 16:06

@Laptoppie Oh I think she quite likely did. Although I knew someone who worked for an online gossip site (not as big as the mail) they got given a picture and told ‘write around this’, rather than finding the pics themselves.

However it irritates me beyond measure to see / hear people criticising ‘women’ for doing xyz, while standing around watching men doing the exact same thing, yet doing and saying nothing. The op has literally posted screenshots of men being awful about Lauren’s appearance, and yet all of her frustration is reversed for the ‘women’.

Edited

I suspect it's because a lot of women have higher hopes for other women than they do for men. It doesn't mean people find men acceptable or are claiming they wouldn't dare body share; but I do think there's a difference.
