Eldest child is ill. Was up until midnight with him. Then the youngest woke about an hour ago and is still screaming.

i am wondering if I will get any sleep at all.

8mo DS is getting his top teeth. He had COVID 2 weeks ago as well so we’ve had 2 weeks of terrible sleep.

Modranihtandtomtens · 01/11/2024 04:41

Solidarity to all the shit sleep sufferers!!

My children are away for half term so was really looking forward to some sleep for the first time in about 6 years. But my parents are visiting and they've bought their who cried until 11, then fireworks went off at half 12 and woke me, parents got up for the loo at 2ish then the dogs went mental downstairs at 4 so someone got up to let them out. Can't get back to sleep 🤦 Bring back the kids 😂 at least then I get cuddles!!

Awake with baby since 2:45, on and off the boob for some reason…hope she’s done soon!

Hang in there! It’s so brutal that first night. I was awake 24hrs post c-section. Why does the ward have to be so hot, it’s hell on earth! I had a woman on the phone all night too. If I’d not been in so much pain, I’d have grabbed her phone of her and flushed to down the toilet 😂

Just focus on that thought of getting back into your own bed and your little one finally home x

Thank you.
It really is hell on earth.
Nowhere is hotter.

I just can’t understand how people can be so oblivious to the fact that other people are trying to sleep!

My own bed sounds like a total dream lol!

I got a side room after I accidentally pooed all over the ward (bum torn + given an insane amount of lactulose). You could try that?

I mean that is an interesting idea.
I mean I have already lost all of my dignity, a poo is nothing in the grand scheme of things haha!

Annonnn24 · 01/11/2024 04:00

Negangirlxx · 01/11/2024 03:52

I hope so.
I can’t face another night of this.
My midwife requested a side room but apparently they don’t allow this right after surgery, due to monitoring. I can’t say being kept awake for over 24 hours is going to help my recovery all that much! 🙄

One of my friends tends to wake up at odd hours as well so I just texted to say to let me know if they wake up and I'll go round.

It's only 3 doors down. Feeling very fidgety with sinus pain and sneezing!

@Negangirlxx hope you get some rest soon and congrats on little one 🌺

Thank you! ❤️

And then the bright lights during the day as well, I remember that really clearly. 'Sleep when the baby sleeps' but then beaming a one million watt strip light down from 6am. You'll be home soon enough xxx

I hope so.

My son and I bumped into his friends and all their mums trick or treating, they’d all been at a one of their houses together before hand having a party. He was so excited to see them we ended up tagging along and it was so awkward. When he realised they’d had a party without him he was devastated. Just one of those things but I’m so upset for him I can’t sleep!!

Whatwillido2 · 01/11/2024 03:50

yup! Supposed to get a flight with ds to go see family in 3 hrs and ds woke up an hour ago with temperature and vomited!! Family have small children and babies and I’m gutted as shouldn’t go to bring germs. Havnt see them in months and was so looking forward to it

Ah dear, I'm sorry you are looking going through the mill at present.. hope it all improves soon.

Me? I should be pushing up zeds, but my guy is in hospital, having gone through yet another op, and when I visited he was suffering so badly.
So sleep feels very far away...
I know I should take care of me too, else how can I take care of him, but extreme worry can make the usual, impossible.

Wishing anyone who's troubled, some peaceful sleep, if only for a few precious hours 😴 💤😴

Congrats on your new arrival and I hope you make a swift recovery. Quite a lot of what traumatised me was actually the aftermath on the HDU/ postnatal ward. It's horrible, isn't it? Lovely when you get to bring your little scrunch home though. Love mine so much, even when he's being an evil little goblin. Grin

Thank you.

I’m autistic so it’s the noise, and the heat, and the non stop itching. It’s a sensory nightmare for me. The pre c section part wasn’t too bad, just lots of waiting around and being DESPERATE for a drink. I just can’t wait to get her home, in our own space. I’ll definitely do much better at home I think.

Am on holiday and can't sleep cos the pillow is so hard but that is totally a 1st world problem. Hope you all get some rest.

Bubbles332 · 01/11/2024 03:18

Yes. I've got a 6 month old who's waking every 2 hours. I had a counselling session about his traumatic birth yesterday and now whenever I do manage to drop off between his screaming sessions I'm having a nightmare about that.

Oh you poor thing, I’m so sorry.
I hope that the counselling sessions help you achieve some sort of peace/closure. Sending you love ❤️

Congratulations on the new arrival and commiseration to all those unwell or with ailing small ones.

Another experiencing the angst of far away grown up children here. I’ve had a number of increasingly drunken texts from student DD on a Halloween night out. Not much I can do, but it isn’t conducive to peaceful slumber.

Do Not Disturb mode is your best friend.

I’ve used it a few times when DH has been “out with the lads”.

😂

Congratulations!@Negangirlxx Why are maternity wards so hot and noisy?! Just at the time you need comfort and peace. Hopefully you’ll be home soon Flowers

I’m premenstrual and always get disturbed sleep at this point in my cycle. Woke up hot and hungry at 2am and I’m pissed off, as I have to get up at 6am and will be grouchy tomorrow.

I have no idea. I swear they love to torture women for funsies. I’m absolutely melting, just want to rip all of my clothes off, but I can’t, cos I’m still totally numb. But then it doesn’t help when some women are completely selfish, and blind to others needs, and spend ages on the phone at 3am! 🙄
