Those who believe MN is more leftists, what makes you think so?

ItTook8WibesToKnow7WasEnough · 31/10/2024 16:08

Because to me MN has always come off much more right / conservative.

So, if you can point out what makes it so leftist.

PandoraSox sorry this one was from Bombastix

I’m still not convinced a leftie cat thread needs this Badenoch function! Rummly haven’t you got rightie chums to play with or something

Barbadossunset · 03/11/2024 12:39

Sorry, Zonder not Zinder.

PandoraSox I’ve quoted you on my post. The others aren’t from you.

Blimey. I did post a few times on one of those threads, number 4 or thereabouts and decided it wasn't worth the hassle. That is intense

Can you link please, because I think you have attributed some things to me that I did not say.

Zonder · 03/11/2024 12:34

Tricky to read that @Barbadossunset - putting in some line spaces would help. I can't tell if any of it is your comment or if the entire post is c&p.

Could you try again to be more clear?

I think it would be great if posters reacted to the mentioned pp posts with links and information without mockery, insults and accusations of being a bot or HQ

We'll see if people change

PandoraSox · 03/11/2024 11:36

However there are plenty of insults from Labour supporters on the Starmer threads to those who disagree

Can you link to said insults to individuals? Posters on that thread don't always agree with each other, yet don't insult each other.

Edited

Quite. And challenging someone robustly is not insulting. Asking for evidence to back up a statement is not insulting.

sinckersnack · 03/11/2024 12:08

It's a false conclusion because, for example, X might post on a thread about private schools and be accused of being RW. But on a feminism post she might be accused of being LW. On a benefits thread someone might call her LW or not notice because she's fairly Middle of the Road and on a thread about immigration very LW indeed. But she's a small business owner and on economics or politics/tax threads she'd be considered RW.

And I think that reflects how many of us think, (broad ranging not LW or RW about ALL issues). Which is why I'd like to see a more issues-based election and government not a party-based one. We vote for policies and the people who carry them out are mere executors.. But how that would come about I have no idea.

CurlewKate · 03/11/2024 11:47

@Barbadossunset Where did I say it was all one way?🤔

PandoraSox · 03/11/2024 11:36

Barbadossunset · 03/11/2024 11:00

Thank you for answering my question CurlewKate.
However there are plenty of insults from Labour supporters on the Starmer threads to those who disagree, and anyone who supported Brexit was instantly insulted by virtually every poster so it works both ways.

@Barbadossunset "CurlewKate what is your definition of ‘being a dick’ on these threads?"

Ad hominems. Unsupported "facts". Insults. Whataboutery. You know the sort of thing.

Barbadossunset · 03/11/2024 00:38

not just disagreeing with you-genuinely being a dick

CurlewKate what is your definition of ‘being a dick’ on these threads?

Interesting that this how the interactions are viewed. What's that phase play the ball not the woman.

I don't see people challenging the links, that would be great wouldn't it, but usually it's mocking or worse, HQ accusations against the poster.

This isn't really about that particular pp as I'm sure she has enough resources to deal with it, good mh and life etc, but how online behaviour accumulates and if enough participate people can't see it (apparently)

The thing is - most of them are completely irrelevant to the topic and are derailing.

Lots of whataboutery - which have been challenged before - and it gets tedious when the same people try to derail a thread with irrelevant links.

My usual tactic is to ignore such attempts at a derail.

At what do you think something becomes a pile on?
Is it 2 people responding?
3 people responding

And it's mostly replies to the links.

Zonder · 02/11/2024 10:49

play the ball not the woman.

I tend not to respond much mainly because I see so many other people posting good responses. I would say that generally it's the ball that's being played but if the ball is constantly being thrown in by one woman maybe it looks like the woman is being played.

I'm sure you're aware that on countless subjects someone can post their opinion and lots of people will reply to say why it's wrong. That's not a pile on. It's lots of people expressing themselves and wanting to say what they believe is right. It's very subject based.

If someone posts links on a thread, they can be challenged and discussed.
Especially if they are on a thread that is dominated by Labour posters.

*See other threads or topics where people with a particular point of view post and people who post contradictory things often get challenged by a lot of people

Unless you think people who post stuff shouldn't get challenged on what they post

I am puzzled by people talking about "shut down" comments. Surely if someone is being a dick (not just disagreeing with you-genuinely being a dick) you just ignore and move on to the vast majority of non-dick posters?

cakeorwine · 02/11/2024 09:29

I would say I am a Guardian reading, Labour supporter.

However, I use MN to post on a range of topics. Unlike some people who seem to just stick to political threads.

When there were questions about Russian interference / trolls on here, I often wondered if any Russian trolls would have posted on say baby names with their opinion or questions - their role was to post disinformation but they got sidetracked by some of the other MN topics.

I don’t think I’ve seen Clavinova post without multiple Labour posters going for it

That has been going on since what? Partygate or earlier. Idk how she doesn’t lose it but hats off to her for that

I don’t think that quote below applies

Whataboutery is not debate.

Better than cliche shut down comments though.

CurlewKate · 02/11/2024 08:53

I do tend to agree about being London-centric-particularly in Education threads.

PandoraSox · 01/11/2024 23:52

TheHateIsNotGood · 01/11/2024 22:13

Not really, but possibly a bit London-centric which is hardly surprising as great volumes of people live there and there's a lot more 'stuff' going on.

The little voices coming and reporting from the nether regions are easily squashed down under any wave of disagreement that emanates from the 'power-base'.

I don't feel squashed. I live in a different country to the "power-base" (assuming you mean London or SE England generally).
