Genuine question- why don’t you just pop out for a couple of hours? No one wants to cause anyone any suffering but honestly, it’s not like Halloween comes as a surprise every year.

No one should have to leave their house because other people think their kids are entitled to knock on doors.

Hippiechick162 · 31/10/2024 18:02

I love Halloween! Love seeing all the little excited faces...we've even had a few party tricks already (they get extra treats). Our street goes all out. My kiddos go out after tea. It's usually all done by 8
Edited to add
Happy Halloween 🎃

Differentstarts · 31/10/2024 18:01

And I have explained to you that I give plenty…but no that’s not good enough. You’re too miserable to even accept that!

Stop name calling.

As I said before. Some of us have anxiety. Some of us have PTSD. Some of us feel vulnerable. Be kind.

I have a bucket of mini bags of sweets and nobody has knocked yet.
Looks like ill have to eat them myself 😉

to be fair, we live in an area that has a lot of Asians, I don’t think a lot of them celebrate. And it’s also Diwali so they will have their own things going on but I thought we may get a couple.

GoldMoon · 31/10/2024 17:59

We are the equivalent of 'bah humbug ' when it comes to Halloween . We don't usually draw our downstairs curtains but they are today & won't open the door if anyone knocks .

pestowithwalnuts · 31/10/2024 17:58

Saw some at 4 ish. This was on a main riady

VeilFlowyLace · 31/10/2024 17:58

Very small village and no one yet. I have lights out, pumpkins lit and outside ( battery powered candles)

Any time between 5ish and 8ish seems standard.

Yep agreed! Although today the majority have come between 5-5.30 and not a soul since then!

What time is ok for trick or treating? I would have taken my 5 year old at 5.30 but his dad is coming, so it'll be more like 6.30. I assume 6.30-7.30 is ok?

Yeah fine I think 8pm is usually the cut off for most maybe 8.30 at a push

Maybe take the hammer off the door then?

Again it’s once a year. Either put some earplugs in or why don’t you just go out for a couple of hours if all of these “hammering” 4 yr olds really disturb you that much.

I’m sure a local pub could be persuaded to host a “joyless gits” evening. Then again you’d probably all sit around looking for something to complain about nursing a glass of tepid water.

They aren't 4. Yours might be 4. These are older kids.

Please don't do this. I live in a road that people travel to and it REALLY spoils the vibe

I disagree. I live in an estate and all the surrounding country ones call. It’s a great vibe. Had so many already.
I do agree the above sounds entitled with the best of both worlds comment! But I’m happy to see any child come to the door. I enjoy it.

Differentstarts · 31/10/2024 17:40

I had no one hammer the door or demand sweets. I have had children ring the bell or knock on the door and say trick or treat and have all had beautiful manners everyone has said thankyou

Different kids I guess.

We just had a load knock miaowing like fucking cats.

No . I am not feeling it this year.

Agree. Piss off

Our road used to have lots of visitors. We used to have a small street party which had lots of attempted gate crashers. Had to keep an eye out for a couple of wells own cfers who wanted to drop their kids off !

Someone knocked on my door to complain the first year we didn’t have a street party! Thought it was selfish there was no giant spider webs up and it wasn’t being run, she couldn’t understand that our teenage kids didn’t want to be gawped out by toddlers and their parents.

This bloke has a relative who lives here and he uses the place as a playground for his three kids. We have to suffer them far more than I’d like and tonight is a free for all. They can take it out on the knocker and no, they’re not little cuties dressed up as cats and even if they were I wouldn’t open the door.

What do you want them to do sing you a song do you a dance. If their getting up to get the door so you can relax I'd be happy with that

I don’t want them to do a dance, no.
It’s nothing to do with the door. It’s the decoration, the priority for utter bullshit. A bit more care for me and yes, I am being entitled. And I am allowed to be. I have been at the back of the queue for too long now.

And you sound so kind by the way… I don’t think.

Still waiting for the first knock here :( Dressed up, windows spookily decorated, candles lit, pumpkin out, sweets at the ready! Bring.it.on!

All the screaming and screeching has started here. Some bloke has even imported his kids to pester us who live here. They cause enough disturbance all year round. Tonight is carte blanche to annoy people.
