DH refers to himself as my “Dad”

Weird one! DH has for a long time referred to himself as “Daddy” when it comes to me. (Not sexual!)

For example if I need his help he will say “Your Daddy will do it” “Daddy do” or “Let your Dad help you” or “Your Father will fix it” He keeps saying he should really stop calling himself my Dad.

Is this infantilising? We do have kids so he is used to being “Daddy” but he refers to himself as my “Dad”

AIBU? Is this weird?? He also says “Good girl!” When I’ve done a task etc. Or “You’re a good girl!” I’m in my forties!! DS has even begun to correct him saying “She’s not a girl, she’s a woman” Etc.

AIBU?

That’s very weird if he’s doing it to you and not just when the kids are around. Has he always done this?! How did you marry him?!

I do have vague memories of him doing similar stuff early into the relationship, I remember correcting him numerous times when he would say “good girl” and I wish I could remember but I swear he did refer to himself as Dad before we had kids.

Yeah it's a no from me.

Weird.

But then I wouldn't tolerate it said during sex or any other time.

Now im not saying I'd overreact by using two breeze block to perform an emergency penis removal... But let just suggest that my orifices would be closed due to lack of heat for the foreseeable.

snowlady4 · 29/10/2024 18:29

Did his parents do this? I lived in a certain part of the uk where I noticed some elderly people referring to each other as mummy and daddy? I found it very weird and creepy- had never heatd it before where I'm from. Just wondering if its something he grew up with and thinks its normal/endearing? Which it definitely is not! You can't be discreet about it- tell him it disgusts you and please stop!

Raininginparadise2 · 29/10/2024 18:29

Tell him to stop. He's not your dad. It's a bit creepy. Ignore him until he treats you as an equal. Does he have any trauma from his past, attachment issues, or is this just a power thing? Whatever it is, it is not a healthy relationship.

MaggieBsBoat · 29/10/2024 18:29

I called off my wedding for less.

Odious.

I‘m actually ashamed on your behalf.

That's revolting!

GreyCarpet · 29/10/2024 18:28

Reading that has actually made my skin crawl!

Have you told him not to do it? What does he say?

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 29/10/2024 18:28

Die he do it when you first met? Why did you not shut it straight down (either the way of talking or the relationship) 😳🤢

AppleKatie · 29/10/2024 18:27

What did he say when you said, stop doing this it makes me feel infantilised and frankly sick. What do you mean by it? Why do you think this is ok?

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 29/10/2024 18:27

I might jokingly say “mummy do it” as a kid “quote” rather than because I actually feel like his mum. If he’s aware that he needs to stop doing it then it’s just habit at this point.

AdoraBell · 29/10/2024 18:27

That would gross me out 🤮

SlowPonies · 29/10/2024 18:27

This would actually make me vomit.

OP you need to come down hard, fast, and make sure this stops today.

Or LTB !

ps Unfortunate your kids had to hear it. Tell him it may cause issues for them too!

Hollietree · 29/10/2024 18:26

🤢

EBearhug · 29/10/2024 18:26

Nooooo. I wouldn’t like it at all. I had one father/Dad/Daddy, and no other man can be him. Besides, it's a different job. I want a partner, not a dad.

purpleme12 · 29/10/2024 18:26

Erm what....

HalloweenHaribo · 29/10/2024 18:26

He'd say it once to me and once only if he was my husband! 🤢

StressedQueen · 29/10/2024 18:26

GingerBreadGinge · 29/10/2024 18:25

It does give me the ick! 🤢

Have you told him your opinions on it?

This would bother me so much

This would have me running away so fast. I find it creepy. Does he say this to you in front of others too? Sorry but this is pretty gross.

GingerBreadGinge · 29/10/2024 18:25

distinctpossibility · 29/10/2024 18:24

Ugh that would give me the ick and would possibly be completely irreparable.

Does it bother you? If so, he needs to break the habit.

It does give me the ick! 🤢
