Vibrators on sale at Tesco, thought it was a bit much

Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

Really. Flashlights aren't small are they? Admit I've never seen one in the flesh

I have and it was definitely bigger than was necessary for it to be fit for purpose Grin

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 17:58

@ShowmetheBotox they used to sell top shelf magazines in WHSmith which despite being on the top shelf every kid probably could see them. They don't anymore. They used to have boobs on page 3 of newspapers. They don't anymore.
Sex is normal. These products are better for children to accidently see than the (almost) naked women that children could see in a daily newspaper.

I'm just wondering if you order one on your online shopping and they are out of stock whether you get Gary from the warehouse as your substitute!

You win, you definitely win the thread 🙌🙌

I thought it looked like a pepper grinder at first glance. 😁

Why? I guess because I’d feel awkward serving someone buying that.. It just seems such a private thing 🤷‍♀️ Also men potentially making young female staff uncomfortable on purpose..

We don't care. It's not as if we sit on break talking about people who buy them, as long as you don't steal them because then it gets awkward.

It’s the slow creep of normalisation of sex around children.

Imagine chucking a rabbit on the conveyor belt during the weekly shop with your kids on a Saturday morning when it’s packed.

it’s unnecessary and you can get them next day delivery off Amazon .

Its a supermarket not a creche
And not everyone shops online.

mamajong · 27/10/2024 17:57

Yabu, personally i don't see the big deal

Sex is a normal adult activity though. Do you have the same problem with pregnancy tests being for sale or alcohol? You can after all but boy online.

When I checked out that link the products displayed underneath were 2 litres of milk, a cucumber, bananas and carrots! I felt it was a bit "If you like this, you might want to try these"?

WetBandits · 27/10/2024 17:55

As a side note, this has just reminded me of the time I ordered a sex toy from Wish and it arrived with the contents of the package emblazoned on the delivery label Grin the postman was smirking when he delivered it, and I only discovered why after he’d gone!

Still not embarrassed, but I do only order from Lovehoney now Grin

Yep and now we have to see people's asses in thongs. Lovely

In Tesco?

They’re on sale on the higher shelves, they’re not for use in the aisle itself.

Glad you clarified that 🤣

The important question - do they have a special Club Card price?

I’ve just looked online and apparently some of them actually do!

YANBU. I thought I was seeing things.

They’ve put them next to the paracetamol and vitamins in my local Tesco Confused

🤣 no playing the " I've got a headache " excuse

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 17:53

@HowAmITheCatsGranny I will tell you a secret about retail staff - they don't care what you are buying.
(and if males want to make female staff uncomfortable they'd just find another way)

TexasHatesWomen · 27/10/2024 17:53

Women shop in Tesco and women want orgasms. Win win

BusySittingDown · 27/10/2024 17:52

I never gave it much thought but I was in Tesco with my 13 year old the other day. I was buying some paracetamol, which is down the same aisle and she was furious. 😂 She was whispering "OMG Mum! I do NOT want to be down this aisle!" I was like, "well, I'm sorry but it's not like I'm browsing THOSE but we need paracetamol. Just don't look at them."

Probably an organic cucumber. Or a bar of chocolate and a smiley post it note! Actually, I might settle for the chocolate……

Knowing my luck it would be one of the value range misshapen cucumbers! But yeah chocolate as a substitute would do!!

Would you feel the same about male staff selling tampons and sanitary pads?

Yes, that sort of thing should be strictly restricted to shops in back streets with brown paper over the windows so as not to offend our delicate middle class sensibilities.

I think they've started selling them to encourage self check-out!!

And then you have to explain yourself to the seargent major telling people which self till to go to when you get 'unidentified object in shopping area'.

If you find a bullet vibrator offensive or disgusting I think it says more about you to be honest.

lifebyfaith · 27/10/2024 17:46

I agree op. There's no discretion anymore.
