Vibrators on sale at Tesco, thought it was a bit much

Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

Didn’t we just have this thread a week ago…

Yes we did. The OP was complaining about it in Boots.

Efrogwraig · 27/10/2024 18:59

We don't have them in our Tesco. I shall have to complain!

To be fair, you need condoms even for non- pleasurable risk free sex...

It’s not really Tesco’s fault if you end up with a shit shag though is it?
The point of condoms is to remove the functional aspect of it, making a baby, and leave only the recreational activity.

Yes, that sort of thing should be strictly restricted to shops in back streets with brown paper over the windows so as not to offend our delicate middle class sensibilities.

clutches pearls

Edited

Those aren't pearls, they're Tesco-value anal beads.

Care to explain why? I'll wait.

I'll explain. People who want to have sex, tend to have sex. If they don't want to get STDs or get pregnant then they use condoms.

You might as well say that vitamins are for pleasure because the alternative to taking vitamins isn't a lowered immune system, it's eating carrots. Tampons are for pleasure because the alternative isn't bleeding everywhere, it's using rabbit skin.

Warz · 27/10/2024 18:57

Mrsttcno1 · 27/10/2024 17:22

I don’t see any difference really between them and condoms, lube etc which have always just been out on display.

I think that contraception is a separate thing entirely to sex toys. Talking to kids about contraception is vital, and making it easy to lob condoms into a basket is vital. It's not the same for sex toys, and I agree with pps that normalising everything to do with adult sexuality for young kids is a different thing altogether.

Secondly, I don't have any issue with vibrators being sold in Tesco, but I do find the race to be completely oblivious to why other people have a different POV a bit irritating.

HighlandCowbag · 27/10/2024 18:56

Every little helps.

Skate76 · 27/10/2024 18:46

Condoms are for birth control, dildos are a sex toy and I don't want to pick one up with my weekly shop 🤷‍♀️

Don't then.

I don't like oranges. So I don't buy them. It's really easy.

VivianLea · 27/10/2024 18:55

Completelyjo · 27/10/2024 18:50

Their only purpose is non baby making, pleasure only sex free of the risks of STI’s and babies.

So don’t then? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t think there are any plans to make it compulsory.

And yes condoms are for birth control. So that people can have sex. For pleasure.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 27/10/2024 18:53

Also, why are some posters acting like you have to explain in detail what the items are to a child?
"Well that stimulates the prostate on a man to enhance his sexual pleasure"

Rather than "it's for adults" or "it's something adults use in private. Come on, let's look at the chocolate."

BalletCat · 27/10/2024 18:53

Magnastorm · 27/10/2024 18:52

The ONLY reason people are having sex with a condom is for the fun of it. The alternative is not having sex, not having unprotected sex, FFS.

Therefore, they are as much for pleasure as vibrators are.

Edited

Ridiculous.

Magnastorm · 27/10/2024 18:52

shuggles · 27/10/2024 18:47

The alternative to having sex with a condom is having sex without a condom.

Sex without condoms has an increased risk of infection and unwanted pregnancy compared to sex with condoms.

Therefore, condoms are a health item.

Stop being obtuse.

Think education and culture are most important towards promoting safe sex, but at my Tesco pharmacy is literally in the same store not really a barrier, anyone mature enough to be having sex should definitely be able to overcome this “obstacle”

@JustBrowsingTheWeb

and I think anyone mature enough to be a parent should be mature enough to have conversations with their kid in age appropriate terms…

Your kid will have no idea what it is and if they ask then you tell them.. don’t be such a prude! It’s not like they’re selling butt plugs and nipple clamps next to the LEGO and My Little Pony!

No one is forcing you to, and Dildos can be birth control.

Maybe next we can have male sex toys, so that men and boys can also have sexual pleasure.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not?

But just in case it isn't:
Men and boys experience sexual pleasure more easily than women and girls
Sex toys for men exist

Completelyjo · 27/10/2024 18:50

shuggles · 27/10/2024 18:48

BloodandGlitter · 27/10/2024 18:50

Teenagers experiment with sex toys, and realistically it's better a sex toy then a person who is likely to impregnate you/get pregnant themselves.
Using sex toys shouldn't be something to be ashamed of, you don't need to refer to sex shops as "flasher mac adult stores" you just need to grow the fuck up.

There are many of those widely available!

BoobyDazzler · 27/10/2024 18:49

TempestTost · 27/10/2024 18:02

Sure, it's normal, but not with kids around.

Same reason they didn't let kids into the porn section of the video store.

There are parents out there who allow all this kind of stuff openly in the home, including pornographic material. Or take their kids to sex expos with vendors selling all kinds of stuff.

There is definitely a line that is moving as far as what's appropriate for children to be around, and I don't think being so blase about that is going to be a good thing.

Presumably your kids are adults now if your reference was video store 🤣

shuggles · 27/10/2024 18:49

MartinCrieffsLemon · 27/10/2024 18:45

Oh no

Girls and women might discover and own their own sexual pleasure

The horror

They're great for keeping your matches dry when camping I read once.

I’ve used them to cover my bandaged hand in the shower Grin they’re very stretchy!

shuggles · 27/10/2024 18:48

Completelyjo · 27/10/2024 18:47

@shuggles First of all, condoms are not "for males." Condoms are a health item for protecting against STIs in both men and women, and for protecting against unwanted pregnancies in women.

Vibrators are a pleasure item only, not a health item. People can have their opinions as to whether they should be in supermarkets, but drawing a comparison between condoms and vibrators is extremely strange and bizarre.*

What are condoms for if not for pleasure-only sex? Your argument is completely flawed, condoms aren’t a health item without the sex, which is apparently your hang up about vibrators. Avoiding pregnancy through sex only leaves doing it for pleasure surely so tell me again how different they are?
