Vibrators on sale at Tesco, thought it was a bit much

Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

Wtf are you talking about?

I see MartinCrieffsLemon independant fanclub is back.

Why do you think children shouldn't be exposed to "exposed to adult sexual behaviour in any context"? Proper sexual education is an important tool for tackling sexual abuse....?

Oh, I see....creepy.

(If it's beyond you, I'm making the point that grossly misrepresenting what somebody is saying, to imply they're some sort of predator, is appalling and dishonest behavior).

I can't really defend myself against multiple people going for me because I dared to give my opinion that vibrators shouldn't be sold in Tesco. That was the question in the post. And I said 'women' too because apart from the prevalent MN view that they are wonderful tools of female emancipation and being in control of their own sexual pleasure, they can also be used by a partner in a way which degrades a woman. Or, even, a woman can feel she 'ought' to like them and that if she doesn't, she's somehow uptight/repressed (which is rubbish).

So, attack away, as is usual on here. I personally prefer a flesh and blood male body. And don't bother now 'educating' me that vibrators can be part of a perfect array of sexual options between man/woman (man/man, woman/woman, whoever/whoever), because of course I know that. Just not my choice, and I think it's wrong to put objects designed for sexual pleasure on show in a family supermarket.

Condoms are different because although going on a penis, they are for protection and contraception for the most part.

Condoms are for protection and contraception, you’re right.

For when people are fucking for pleasure.

Because you keep mentioning how other people think it's "creepy" so I'm saying others must agree with me

The only reason to find it creepy is to think I'm encouraging CSA. Which I've been clear is not the case. You are unable to explain why else it's creepy.

You have to stop insinuating posters are paedophiles. It’s not fucking on.

I really don't know how to make this plainer, in English:

I am not saying anyone can't buy a vibrator (including my family members - that's their business). BUT I don't like them being present on a shelf where kids and young teens can see them.

I’ve said this before too. In 14 years of parenting 4 children, not one of my kids has seen a vibrator on a shelf in a supermarket. It’s not the problem you’re making it out to be. If they had seen them and asked questions, I’d have explained they are for adults and moved on. It really is as simple as that.

honestly, I really don't know where I said that people can't choose them. I just said putting them in a family supermarket is something I don't agree with.

And penis or whatever, it's a tool for stimulation. So ridiculous to fix on the odd word and try to make that into the argument. It's a detraction from the point. Which is that I think it's wrong to normalise artificial stimulation rather than letting adults choose that if/when they want. In Tesco where kids and young teens can see it does give it a kind of endorsement.

But adults can choose a vibrator if and when they want it. Just because it’s available in Tesco doesn’t mean someone will be forced to buy it. And if they do buy one - what’s the worst that could happen? They have a good orgasm?

Why are you so relentlessly focused on diverting the conversation to child sexual abuse? It's becoming very unsettling.

Putting them on display in a family supermarket gives a subliminal message.

And to extrapolate from me saying I don't think they should be on display to somehow pleasure and masturbation and a caring partner being forbidden is just ... words fail me.

It gives no more subliminal messages as ANY product being on visible sale

And you've literally said it gives the idea sex toys are good like that was a bad thing

Adults can do whatever they want in bed. For many that will include using sex toys. For others they might actually find their sex life hugely enhanced with sex toys but they'll never know because of people like you making them feel ashamed or "wrong" for wanting to try

Using a vibrator is hardly getting into hard-core S&M

valentinka31 · 27/10/2024 22:17

AdviceNeeded2024 · 27/10/2024 22:15

Because everything you’ve posted indicates that you think masturbation, for females, is something to be ashamed of.

Edited

haha honestly where have I said that? ! That's your weird understanding.

I don't think I'd do it morning and night and sometimes in the afternoon if I thought it was that bad. ha

I just think fingers and imagination are enough. I don't need much to achieve orgasm. And if DP helps with his tongue and fingers then hey, great.

My Jewish grandmother had a saying: "when 6 doctors tell you that you're sick, you lie down."

And all the "thanks" from posters who must agree? And the poster who has explained what I mean and gets me?

Which outweighs the 3 or 4 who have tried to call me creepy.

Which ones are the "doctors" I believe?

must have been a rush since you posted the link…

Made me laugh that having scrolled to the end, the next most frequently purchased item that popped up was a bunch of bananas.

Nothing at all, but they shouldn't be told they should.

Didn't realise Tesco was insisting they did

valentinka31 · 27/10/2024 22:12

AdviceNeeded2024 · 27/10/2024 22:07

It doesn’t tell anyone they should use them. Masturbation is completely normal and healthy and it helps girls understand their bodies and what feels good, so hopefully when they choose a partner they’ll place some emphasis on one who cares about their comfort and pleasure and not settle for someone selfish who doesn’t respect them in bed.

No. Do not make stuff up and attribute it to me.

I've said that young children shouldn't be exposed to adult sex toys or their place in adult sexual relationships.

You disagree, and you've chosen a particular style of communicating your beliefs that have led to me and other posters finding your posts creepy and unsettling.

It's not complicated.

There IS something wrong with exposing young kids to adult sex toys, and normalising kids being exposed to adult sexual behaviour in any context.

Literally a quote from you

What else does "exposed to adult sexual behaviour in any context" mean other than at all?

Member869894 · 27/10/2024 22:11

Parents generally have control over when and how to discuss topics like sex and having sex toys on prominent display in what should be neutral public space undermines that

That is a ridiculously naive opinion

valentinka31 · 27/10/2024 22:10

AdviceNeeded2024 · 27/10/2024 22:02
