To block someone who unfriends you on social media

This is a bit tongue in cheek but something that does give me great pleasure, even though I do know it’s totally petty and pathetic.

It’s hard to find out who has unfriended you on Facebook but I’ve worked out a way to do it. If you look back on old posts and check who has liked them, if the person is still your friend it offers the prompt to message them but if they’ve unfriended you it prompts you to “add friend”. When I’m bored I go back on all my posts and check and if anyone has unfriended me I go and block them. It’s totally pathetic I know but it makes me feel like I’ve taken back a bit of control of the situation - ok, you don’t want to be my friend but now you can never undo that. Does anyone else do anything a bit petty like this to make themselves feel more in control?

For AIBU
YABU - this is pathetic, don’t waste your time.
YANBU - this is an ok thing to do if it makes you feel better.

I couldn’t be bothered to do that in all honesty…

I think social media has a level of significance to you that is deeply unhealthy. It is not real friendships op. Do you have a social life and friends in real life?

JohnSt1 · 27/10/2024 09:16

I neither know nor care who has unfriended me on Facebook. Blocking someone who isn't interested in you is pointless. They don't care.

TofuTart · 27/10/2024 09:15

Wow, that's next level petty 😂
Seriously, I couldn't be arsed.
I regularly have "clear outs" - it's never usually personal, I just think that if you can't be bothered to keep in touch in RL, or don't interact on FB either, especially if you're a casual acquaintance,/old school friend etc not seen for 20 years or more, you can't be that bothered about the friendship anyway. 😁
Sometimes I do notice if someone has unfriended me and think "right, who's that?!' 😡 and go through trying to figure out who but blocking?! Meh it's not that deep bro 😁

Who has time in the day for this? Think of what you could achieve in life if you spent that time doing other things, like a training course to get a promotion, or doing your garden, or learning a new craft, or activities with the kids (if you have any) or anything else meaningful and life-affirming.

I don't understand why anyone unfriends when you can just unfollow so you don't have to see any of their posts. That's what I do. Unfriending is dramatic and unnecessary.

YABU

but only because I can never remember if I unfriended or if they did! I recently started unfriending people as their birthday notifications came up, if I hadn't interacted with them.

I unfriended a load or if I wasn't aligned with what they posted, think back to the George Floyd times or covid, some people went way OTT with what they were posting and their veils slipped, I unfriended a lot then.

So in short, my memory's so bad I can't recall if I did it or them lol

Lentilweaver · 27/10/2024 09:03

Deeply pathetic. Go touch some grass.

Wheredidileavemycarkeys · 27/10/2024 09:02

If they’ve unfriended you it’s a bit pointless isn’t it?

PinkBlouse · 27/10/2024 08:59

No one is this petty.

Clearly at least one person is! 😂

coffeesaveslives · 27/10/2024 09:01

Are you serious? 😂

Tradersinsnow · 27/10/2024 09:01

FBP, Facebook Purity, tells you who has unfriended you. It also blocks ads.

TwinklyAmberOrca · 27/10/2024 09:00

Your life is clearly very dull!

I'd recommend getting out more with real live people.

PinkBlouse · 27/10/2024 08:59

No one is this petty.

Edingril · 27/10/2024 08:59

You are a grown up aren't you?

BabyCloud · 27/10/2024 08:58

It is pathetic. I would never think to think to check who follows/unfollows/likes etc.
