please make me feel less sick by sharing your horror stories of sending messages to the person you’re talking about/screenshots. Bonus points if it’s worked related!

Friend texted me upset about her weight and saying she looks fat. My initial ‘noo’ got autocorrected to ‘moo’

Elphamouche · 23/10/2024 00:11

I’ve just woken up DH and DD laughing at this 😂

Getting ready for a hot date, simultaneously texting my best friend and the date. Accidentally sent 'scrubbing, shaving and plucking like mad!' to the date 😮

😆

AlexaSetATimer · 22/10/2024 23:45

@clarepetal I know people in high stress jobs often have a dark sense of humour but that about school kids (and you) just seems grim 🤮

getthosetitsup · 22/10/2024 23:12

I can't even remember the content - it was a long time ago and I have probably repressed this information. But I once sent something that completely overshared in my customary descriptive manner to the rest of my unholy trinity on our WhatsApp group.

Only I accidentally sent it to the Beavers parents' WhatsApp group.

They enjoyed it. I nearly died of shame 🤣

The day after I found out I was pregnant with our first, I sent a text to my husband at work, “Good morning Daddy ❤️.”

Accidentally sent it to a colleague.
Panicked.

”sorry. That was for my husband.”
”sometimes I just call him Daddy.”

Panicked more.

“Not in a sex way!”
”hahahahahahahahaha”
”Just because of the cat.”

Mortifying, honestly. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

She was lovely about it and once I announced my pregnancy she said she had figured as much but I still re-live it and cringe.

I am creased!!! 😂😂😂😂

Oh another one, in my home town there was a car park by a beach and there were rumours that a lot of people would go dogging there. As teenagers who had just learnt to drive, me and my best friend would often on a Friday night go through the McDonald’s drive thru, and go for a drive down the coast road, chatting and listening to music. We would often drive by the supposed dogging spot hoping to catch some action (we were daft 17 year olds, just wanting a giggle). Even though we’d spend about two hours together, driving by the rumoured spot was five mins out of the evening, but we’d always refer to it as “going dogging.”

One night I text my friend saying “what time you want to go dogging tonight?” And lo and behold, I’d accidentally sent it to my mum who was sat right next to me. I was so red faced trying to dig myself out of the hole!

This is the best one ☝️ Still laughing

Young and silly on a date with someone who I liked loads and was so excited he'd asked to take me out. My mum knew of him and wasn't keen on him and had shown her disapproval already so I decided to txt her whilst i was on the daye telling her where I was(nt) and how sweet he had(nt) been. I sent it to him and he immediately realised what I was doing (trying to make out he wasn't a dick ) cos I was a bore who obviously wasn't going back to his cos I'm a stuck up slag (how can he call me a slave for having boundaries?) and the date ended there. Tbh I'm so glad it did. I was 20 I think and have honestly never lied to my mum again about where I am, who I'm with or how a date was going.
I should have just been honest and said how awful it was and in actual fact it wasn't a proper date it was a few drinks in a dive to get me pissed enough to agree to a s**g

It was embarrassing thay he knew I was hoping I was the one he'd change his ways for basically

Not quite the same, but about 10 years ago, we were having a family games night at my boyfriend's (let's call him Rick) parent's house. We were both 16 and it was maybe the 2nd time I'd been over.

A message alert pinged on my Rick's phone and his little brother went to hand it to him, but for some unknown reason, Rick tells him to "just read it out".

His 8 year old brother then starts to read "This is a message from the NHS with your sexual screening test results..."

Ugh, still makes my cheeks burn.

TicTac80 · 22/10/2024 22:23

I've been laughing so much reading these posts!

I used to get the usual typos/predictive text fuck ups on my phone - "shit/s" instead "shift/s". NB I work shifts. Friends would get text along the lines of: "Nearly finished my shit, see you soon". Not great.

Accidentally put some kisses after a text message to my Matron (a guy) once. He's a mate too, but it was to his work phone, and I thought I'd get into trouble. He found it funny.

Funniest one though, one morning at work, I received a very long, x-rated text from a friend, describing in detail exactly how she was feeling and what she planned to do (to her then boyfriend). I sent her a "I don't think you meant to send that me" reply, then had to switch my phone off as I was starting work. On my break, I switched phone on again to find a LOT of texts and missed calls from her (apologising, she was mortified) and her boyfriend (asking for the text!!).

InThePinkScarf · 22/10/2024 22:20

Too funny @Laiste . Another favourite of mine on this thread !

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/10/2024 22:12

Not sure it fits your criteria but I would say the my father and I share one.....its when he sent me a message he meant to send to the woman he was having an affair with. Swore blind it wasnt physical (due to medication he was on, which frankly is more information than I wanted) and just emotional. But yeah, that would be my worst one.

A friend was once selling handmade Christmas decorations. In all honesty, they were terrible. I wouldn't want one if they were free. But I bought one to be a nice friend, and agreed to share with friends and family to get her more custom.
Accidentally sent her a message, with a photo of her decorations attached, saying "I know these are completely hideous but my friend is trying her best. If I send you the money would you please buy one from her so she thinks she's got some custom?"

A couple of other people had also bought from her, and she wouldn't believe that I didn't pay them to do it. I felt terrible for ages after.

It took me 4 attempts to read this - crying 😂

I work for a surveyor. Today I sent a message to the tenant of a house we are surveying to remind them of their appointment tomorrow. Just noticed that I also sent a text a few hours later telling them to come straight home because we were having KFC for tea and I was hungry. I feel like the poor woman is still sitting there waiting for a Zinger Meal to turn up.

We have an extended family WhatsApp group for baby photos - all the children are now married and having their own children, so it's a good way for all the generations to be able to see the grandkids, great grandkids and great great grandkids grow.

I blearily looked at my phone for the time in the early hours and noticed a new picture alert in one of the baby chats. I opened it to see a very large, very angry looking penis. The surroundings of the picture (and the footwear) made it immediately apparent that this was Great Great Grandad's surprisingly magnificent, septuagenarian willy.

Fortunately DH is an admin so I shook him awake, handed him his phone and said he better hurry up and delete Grandad's knob before everyone saw it. Fortunately there weren't any other group members looking at it at 4am so it was swiftly deleted and his dignity was spared. They never really grow out of playing with their genitals do they?

🤣🤣🤣

Mine was actually very unprofessional. Not a text but in the same meeting at work as one of my very best friends. We all had laptops open in our office as we were dialling into the main meeting going on at our sister site. As I'm sat nodding and smiling to appear engaged whilst our manager goes on and on about the new recruitment drive and how we now offer a free breakfast bar to all new members of staff for a year I meant to send a teams message to my friend saying 'that's the worst fucking idea in the world. Welcome to our soulless shit show hope you like nutrigrain'. But I sent it to the teams meeting chat with 26 participants...

That's hysterical Grin
I can really see me doing that.

Sent a text to a very well bred, middle aged lady I worked with who had flu and was off work.

It was supposed to say, 'Hope you spent the weekend in bed recovering'. Predictive text changed it to 'Hope you spent the weekend in bed fucking'.

I was mortified. I didn't know her very well.

I can't see how this is even possible given the layout of a keyboard...

No this honestly makes me want to turn myself inside out.

Are you still friends?

I’d still be friends with this person! Such a sweet, lovely thing to do!!

MadamePeriwinkle · 22/10/2024 21:01

Over the summer I fired off a lengthy WhatsApp to a mate ranting about my ex husband, who had pulled out of an event with 19yo DD who was home from uni.

This meant I had to fill in for him on the only weekend I had to myself over the entire summer which I was supposed to spending with the guy I’d recently started seeing.

I’ve been single for almost 8 years since my divorce and DD is a bit disapproving of my dating situation…unfortunately I sent the text to her instead of my friend.

That was not a fun conversation.

I'm one of a group of three at work who all have the same job role. We have our own work streams but pull together on big projects, to share best practice bla bla. One of my colleagues is brilliant...the other, however, is totally and embarrassingly incompetent. Two of us have been cleaning up her messes, correcting her emails and misinformation for about two years. Totally ridiculous situation and management are aware but on it goes. But she is HIGHLY sensitive and kicks off and raises grievances at the smallest slight. We have to be very careful every time we give her feedback or correct something.

Anyway. A few months ago she was blabbering on in the department teams group - about 25 people. Answering someone's question in detail, in our area of specialty, lots of back and forth and she was totally incorrect in every sentence, telling people to take completely wrong actions.

Other colleague messages me privately 'OMG. Are you reading? What shall we do? Bit awkward!' I catch up then replied 'For goodness sake. She's making a total fool of herself. I don't understand how she can't know this by now. We'll have to say something though, can't let people do what she's saying! l'll message Bob now (big boss), will probably be better coming from him with all those people in there reading'.

Yeah. Sent it to the main department group, not privately back to my colleague. And our Teams has no edit or delete function.

It was fucking awful 😖 Yes, she raised a grievance. There were meetings and discussions. She actually came out of it much worse in the end because she totally blew her top, wanted my head on a block and would not accept an apology or let it go. But Christ I was mortified.

She's not highly sensitive. She's just manipulated you so you think she is. People who dish it out need to be able to take it and it's amazing how many can do the first and not the latter as they've convinced people they are sensitive. So everyone else takes shit and shuts up. Think about it.

Laiste · 22/10/2024 20:52

I wrote ''When i see you later i'm going to throw you on the bed and fuck you senseless'' to my straight laced elderly mother - who i keep very much at arms length and who didn't even know that i was in a relationship 😲😫

Knowing she only turned her mobile on once a day or so i RAN straight out of the house (so fast i left the front door wide open) praying she hadn't read it, and down to hers. She was gardening and didn't see me so i snuck in the back door which was always unlocked, found her mobile, deleted the message and crept back out of the house with her none the wiser thank fuck.

My god I thought my heart was going to burst from the stress of it all! Not least the sprint from my house down the lane to hers in bare feet 🙄

Finally got added to my DH family whatsapp and they were all talking at the same time my friend messaged me on there about her boyfriends sex issues so I replied "could you not just ask him for oral only for a while". Sent to his entire family instead of my friend

Edited

I work as a teaching assistant, and we have a department WhatsApp group. Xmas Eve last year, someone sent a message saying 'Happy Xmas and hope the kids are enjoying it.' I read it quickly, thinking it was a school mum. I replied 'happy Xmas to you, and it won't be long before the kids are all wanking and not bothered about xmas'. I then finished up by saying afterwards 'To be fair, it's usually me who is cracking one out,'.
This was I thought a joke to a close school friend about wanking.
If took me a few hours to realise I had cross referenced to my work messages when I had no reply. I deleted and apologised.
My boss never said anything to me, so I don't know how many people actually read it (about 40 in the department) but I got a few giggles when we went back after Xmas hols.
Not my best moment.

Wtf? If I texted my child's TA "Happy Xmas" and she texted something back about my child / their classmates wanking I would be having words with the headteacher before the start of term. That's a safeguarding issue surely?!

MaterCogitaVera · 22/10/2024 20:42

A former colleague accidentally sent a long email complaining about his manager, full of colourful words like “fuckwit”, to a friend. Except, you’ve guessed it, he actually sent it to the manager by mistake.

It would probably have been okay, but when told to apologise, he sent out “I’m very sorry for the accidental message. However…”, followed by a detailed, point by point defense of everything he’d said. 😅
