please make me feel less sick by sharing your horror stories of sending messages to the person you’re talking about/screenshots. Bonus points if it’s worked related!

Oh, no!

Did she know that he'd sent it? That probably terrified her, actually, as she would probably have assumed that it was somehow done by a filthy perv getting his kicks, who could have been outside/near, for all she knew.

That was one big thing about landlines: they were usually shared by/answered by more than one person, unless you lived alone and never had anybody visiting - it's quite a modern thing whereby everybody has a phone that (usually) only they use.

MontySaucy · 23/10/2024 16:38

More of an autocorrect/proof reading issue but my teen son sent me 'give me sex' instead of 'give me a sec' he was mortified 😆

IAmFlan · 23/10/2024 16:35

New job, on a Teams call with my colleagues and trying to make a good first impression. My Internet connection wasn't great and I dropped off the call and had to rejoin. People were talking so I wrote a message in the chat to say 'sorry I disappeared then, I just got licked out'. Noticed immediately and edited to 'kicked out', but the hoots of laughter coming through my headphones told me I was too late.

UnNiddeRides · 23/10/2024 16:35

Not a text, but about 20 years ago my boyfriend discovered that you could send a text to a landline, the phone would then ring & an automated voice would read the message to you.
One day when I was at work he texted my mobile asking if I’d got his landline text. He didn’t realise I was at work & my mother was at my house childminding, so my mother had answered my phone to be told by the BT voice ‘you do great blow-jobs & I’m going to fuck you from behind’. I was almost to embarrassed to look at her when I got home.

I had a Nokia years ago (pre smartphones) that could recall rest messages for about 10 seconds after you pressed send. That feature saved me more than once! Never understood why it didn't become a thing 🤔

Just last week I got a text off the school mobile saying that after-school club was cancelled for the last week of term. Forwarded it to DH and then followed up with 'For fucks sake'. Only somehow I'd gone back to the original message so sent that to school instead 😳

This one really tickled me 😂

Not surprised. That was vile. I cannot ever texting that to a friend.

🙄

Karatema · 23/10/2024 16:09

This is hilarious! Wish I could remember my bloopers 🤣🤣

Mine was actually very unprofessional. Not a text but in the same meeting at work as one of my very best friends. We all had laptops open in our office as we were dialling into the main meeting going on at our sister site. As I'm sat nodding and smiling to appear engaged whilst our manager goes on and on about the new recruitment drive and how we now offer a free breakfast bar to all new members of staff for a year I meant to send a teams message to my friend saying 'that's the worst fucking idea in the world. Welcome to our soulless shit show hope you like nutrigrain'. But I sent it to the teams meeting chat with 26 participants...

😂

DoctorMarten · 23/10/2024 15:38

I had been dating a guy, Jason, for a while (teenagers) we had built having sex to into this big romantic occasion that neither of us would ever live up to.

When we got around to it he lasted about 3 seconds.

I messaged my friend after he left saying "I'll need to start calling him premature ejacu-jason from now on"..... only I sent it to him.

In all fairness, he did laugh about it.

😂Ohhhhhh you didn't! I love this

Oh come on. There is much worse on here. Perhaps you should avoid threads like this if you want to be all cats bum mouth about things

I can read and comment if I like. That's my opinion it's a vile thing to text and implies that the person doing the texting is perfect themselves and is putting someone else down.
Definitely not fun. Vile, tactless, nasty.
You won't change my opinion.

ElaborateCushion · 23/10/2024 15:21

Not a text message, but a phone call. This was back in the late 90's, so just as cars in phones were becoming more common.

My then DP was out for the day with his brother (I'll use IL references even though no-one was married because it's easier). They'd had to go a long way for some reason - can't remember why - but it was quite a big thing and they'd been out all day, driving a long distance.

My SIL (BIL's DP) did NOT get on with her in laws (my DP's parents) and they were very much low, almost no contact as a result of MIL's interfering.

[Backstory: MIL was fine with me, but BIL was her "baby boy" and SIL was a fair bit older than him so was v difficult for MIL to accept.]

They were much later back than anticipated, so MIL, worrying, called me to find out if I'd heard from them. In that call she said "Can you believe it? Julie^ called me to see if I'd heard from them!" She sounded delighted that perhaps they were starting to turn a corner and get on.

So when my DP calls me to give an update on their journey, I say "Oh - your Mum called. Guess what?? Julie called her!"

My DP "errrr.... ha ha.... John^ (BIL) is laughing at that!"

Yup - I'd forgotten that this new fangled thing called hands free had been invented and I'd just gossiped about my SIL, right in front of my BIL!

In the grand scheme of things it wasn't anything bad, thank god, but 19 year old me wanted the ground to open up and swallow me!

Still makes me cringe to this day when I think about it.

^name changed!

The thread is about doing something embarrassing not nasty.

@PrincessHoneysuckle
No sorry not me!
Not sure whether it's better or worse that it hasn't only happened to me 😂

I was working away from home for a couple of weeks, staying in the same hotel as a painfully shy work colleague. It was quite close to where a friend of mine lived, so went to stay with her for the weekend. Drunk on the Sat night I sent a text to a man I'd been flirting with at a house party: "so are you coming back to Sophie's house for sex, or what?"

except
I sent it to my work colleague
😫

Not exactly a text message faux pas, but I was once doing a temp job and the person sitting opposite me was a real hottie. Heard him on the phone chasing an internet order that hadn't arrived and he had to read out his address. Nosey little me thought I'd type it into google maps and check it out later, I don't know why, you know when you have a crush and anything about them is interesting 🙈Unfortunately for me, my fat fingers must have pressed go as my phone decided to blurt out at full volume 'directions to [insert his address here]' for the whole office to hear. Still mortified thinking about it.

Have you done a thread before about this? It's identical to one from a good while back

We have an extended family WhatsApp group for baby photos - all the children are now married and having their own children, so it's a good way for all the generations to be able to see the grandkids, great grandkids and great great grandkids grow.

I blearily looked at my phone for the time in the early hours and noticed a new picture alert in one of the baby chats. I opened it to see a very large, very angry looking penis. The surroundings of the picture (and the footwear) made it immediately apparent that this was Great Great Grandad's surprisingly magnificent, septuagenarian willy.

Fortunately DH is an admin so I shook him awake, handed him his phone and said he better hurry up and delete Grandad's knob before everyone saw it. Fortunately there weren't any other group members looking at it at 4am so it was swiftly deleted and his dignity was spared. They never really grow out of playing with their genitals do they?

Hahaha actually cried laughing reading this 😂😂😂

Friend texted me upset about her weight and saying she looks fat. My initial ‘noo’ got autocorrected to ‘moo’

Best!!!!!😂😂😂

My husband's best man texted me the day after our wedding something like this:

"You're a very sexy girl and you were very horny last night!"

He is a good friend and endearingly odd so my husband and I were both just wondering if this was one of his jokes or something, until we heard he had got off with another one of my friends after the wedding and the message was meant for her! 😂

Hatty65 · 23/10/2024 13:40

It was on a phone. With autocorrect. What on earth does the layout of a keyboard have to do with it? That's not how autocorrect works.

CorvusPurpureus · 23/10/2024 13:37

Was simultaneously in a work chat (polite & harmless, mostly people arranging lifts or shift swaps) & a scurrilous bitchfest with a workmate.

We all got an email summoning us to a Very Important Briefing next day.

'Wonder what that's all about?' texts workmate.

'oh it'll be so we can all have "Property of Bastardcorp" tattooed on our arses' I reply.

Of course I didn't notice that she'd asked on the Bastardcorp chat, not on our private chat.

CEO Big Bastard thought it was quite funny, luckily, although he did advise me not to ever contribute to the staff suggestion box...😬

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 23/10/2024 12:29

BodyKeepingScore · 22/10/2024 21:16

I can't see how this is even possible given the layout of a keyboard...

Maybe that's a word that Hatty commonly ends many of her messages with, and the phone has 'learned'?!

That said, phones sometimes do have very strange glitches to their algorithms. I had an old Windows phone and the very first time I typed the word 'functioning', it offered as the potential next word "well', "OK" and "vagina" ?!?!?!?!
