Is this revenge on the OW fair or not?

Obviously we don't have the whole story, but would you be tempted to do this, to take revenge on the OW on your mother's behalf? I think I might, if I felt my mother and my family had been torn apart by her actions.

A mugshot of Eleanor Brown - a woman in her early twenties with dark shoulder length hair and blue eyes.

Eleanor Brown jailed for sharing naked photos of father's lover

Eleanor Brown posted the woman's photos on an escort site as an "act of revenge", a court hears.

I was surprised by the length of the sentence.
I'm also surprised at the level of hate her actions required to do something like that.
My question is why do it 12 yrs after the affair?
She would have been a child at the time.
Has the dm been harbouring resentment for 12 yrs then decided to set her dd's on the OW?
The dm and dsis should have been charged too.
Are the parents still together?
The husband is clearly blameless 🙄
What an absolute cluster fuck for all involved.

She got a lifelong restraining order too so they must have serious concerns about her level of hatred for this woman.

As for why she did it 12 years after the affair, apparently the wife saw that the husband of the OW had set up a new business and he was advertising on facebook and that's what set it all off. Maybe the OW and her husband hadn't been on social media prior to that or they were triggered by seeing the husband doing so well.

It looks like the parents are still together because they were on holiday together at the time when the husband tried to contact him about the messages.

Yeah OP honestly if you felt that your mother and family were torn apart by an affair like that you'd be far, far better off encouraging your mother to leave your father and helping her to get some therapy and getting some therapy for yourself too rather than doing something so awful.

They'd all be in a far better place now if they had tried to deal with this in a healthier way.

Agree with this.

My father has an affair when I was 16/17. Obviously it destroyed the family but there's no way I'd have done anything remotely like this!! Incidentally he's married to the OW and has been for the past 20 years, so it worked out for them. But obviously I hated them both at first and refused to get to know her. It was a long time ago but I do recall holding my dad in higher contempt than her - he was the one with loyalty to the family and his actions caused it, after all. Even in midst of my anger it would never have occurred to me to take any form of "revenge" on her, particularly not of this type. Absolutely deranged behaviour.

NewGreenDuck · 22/10/2024 06:26

Well clearly it's not reasonable to do that.
Firstly, why doesn't she blame her dad and take revenge on him? Can't he restrain himself?
Secondly, her actions were illegal, so now she has to serve time and has a record.
And lastly, what good did it do? Did it improve anyone's life?
It was childish, undignified, illegal and made the situation worse.

The mum and dad are still together which is nuts. I bet the mum played happy families with the dad who wasn’t held to account. Affairs devastate families .

TypingoftheDead · 22/10/2024 06:22

I’ve been cheated on by a boyfriend and doing this wouldn’t have even crossed my mind (not that nude pics were involved but I was angry as Hell at both him and his side piece).

MsMila · 22/10/2024 06:21

No, this isn't even remotely justifiable.

I don't subscribe to the ethos that only the man is at fault. He is primarily responsible. Yes, he signed up to the marriage and cheated, and for me, he'd immediately be consigned to the rubbish bin of history. Good riddance.

But I equally couldn't enter into a relationship as an OW knowing fully how destructive that can be. A shitty thing to do.

Revenge, yes, get rid and be happy.

Justcallmebebes · 22/10/2024 06:20

JimmyGrimble · 22/10/2024 03:04

No it’s deranged and illegal. The defendant was very young when the actual infidelity took place but had been shown the photos by her mum. The mum and sister then egg her on to post nude pictures and hateful messages. Pathetic and childish.

This. Appalling behaviour, especially from the mother

The act was very wrong but the sentence was too long.
I have been that angry young woman whose father cheated . I hated the OW ( a family friend) with a vengeance. She wasn’t sorry for tearing my family apart and encouraging my father to abuse my mother.
I sought revenge ( sent junk mail with a horrible ‘nickname’ on ) and shared her number for cold callers about products for the elderly. Nothing sexual .
It was meant to piss them both off . It did and this gave me pleasure.

Wow, what did you do to your dad? Must've been really bad.

DoIWantTo · 22/10/2024 06:15

You think it’s fair to share someone’s naked pictures as part of revenge? You’re the problem. That is utterly vile. Hopefully she’ll have some sense knocked into her now.

Applesonthelawn · 22/10/2024 06:14

They should be embarrassed that they sank to such a low level. FGS keep some dignity about you. I've been cheated on and it took me years to get over but you really need to put your energy into seeing the man for the loser he is and making a better life for yourself.

pictoosh · 22/10/2024 06:13

And no, I absolutely would not be tempted to post naked photos of my father's mistress from a years ago affair on an online escort site because my father couldn't keep his dick in his pants.

She's an utter ghoul.

pictoosh · 22/10/2024 06:07

No, she's a malicious bully and deserves every minute of that sentence.

BananaSpanner · 22/10/2024 06:05

SwanSong1 · 22/10/2024 05:55

No, the OW is not married to you, how's about blaming your husband?

I’m not commenting on this case specifically but I think it’s possible to hold both people involved in the affair responsible. The spouse obviously betrays their cheated on other half which is worse but the affair partner also displays callous, selfish behaviour and it’s quite justified to be angry at them too (not condoning what has gone on in this case).

AgentJohnson · 22/10/2024 06:00

Of course it's not acceptable to put somebody's nude photos plus contact details in the hands of strangers! What planet are you on?

This!!!!!!!!

CurlewKate · 22/10/2024 05:59

Because obviously the man is the innocent party here-helplessly ensnared by this wicked woman.

Wordsmithery · 22/10/2024 05:58

Of course it's not acceptable to put somebody's nude photos plus contact details in the hands of strangers! What planet are you on?
Oh yes, victim blaming planet. I recognise it now. Where the OW is at fault and the man, who is the one who betrayed his own family, is blameless.
What Eleanor Brown did was ugly, excessively spiteful and could have a long term effect on the victim. Those photos will never not be out there.
Three years should give Ms Brown time to reflect.

SwanSong1 · 22/10/2024 05:55

Zanatdy · 22/10/2024 05:53

Of course it’s not fair. I hope the mother who encouraged this is happy now once daughter lost her career, and the other is in prison. I’d never encourage my child to do something like this, knowing full well she could go to prison. What did she do to her father who also had an affair? All this has caused a lot of upset, but seems she has no regret, and is deserving of the sentence she received.

Wordsmithery · 22/10/2024 05:50

Greenfinch7 · 22/10/2024 03:38

The CPS guidance is a 6 month term for sharing nude photos without consent. I can't find a record of any man being jailed for 3 years for a similar offence, and think how many men share photos without consent. She is being treated harshly because she is a woman.

She also shared the woman's personal details on an escort site, thus exposing her to who knows what weird men. Much worse than 'just' sharing photos.

AngelicKaty · 22/10/2024 05:48

OP, YABU for even considering doing something which is against the law and as this woman has found out, will put you in prison. Posting nude photo's of someone on a public forum is against the law for good reason. It's reprehensible regardless of an offender's "justification" for doing it.

Thebackofthenorthwind · 22/10/2024 05:38

I find it hard to believe a woman would do this to another woman

The irony!

I don't subscribe to the MN view that it is all the man's fault. It takes two, they are jointly guilty. I can't find any real sympathy for the OW.
But the OW's daughter and her husband were innocent and shouldn't have been targeted too, that was hateful. The defendant shows a lack of empathy in being unable to see they were as hurt by the affair as she was.

Tigerlily19 · 22/10/2024 05:38

It’s absolutely right that this kind of offence is taken very seriously, I think the issue is that many other sex crimes are not treated with this same level of severity.

The thing that I can’t get my head around is when and how did she get these images in the first place?? She must have been around 12 when the affair took place, it seems like she was completely drawn into the fallout of the affair. Of course it’s impossible for a child not to impacted by a parental affair, but she absolutely did not need to know this level of detail. Seems incredibly dysfunctional.
