To despise plug in air fresheners

currently in a battle with DH over plug in air fresheners. He loves them and buys loads. I cannot stand them, I find the smell artificial and sickly. I find them very over powering and generally unpleasant. He keeps turning them on and I sneak them off again when he’s not looking 😂 He then turns it back on again!

I have ADHD with autistic traits and find certain smells overpowering, especially when I’m eating. I’d much rather the smell of a nice candle or clean washing etc. AIBU to hate them?

Nasty toxic things. If my DH did this is be moving out (luckily he agrees with me that they are the invention of the devil).

They are hideous air pollutants, there is no way I would have one in my house.

I hate the plug in scents.
I don't mind a subtle scented reed diffuser though, but I also like lots of fresh air.
😬

Horrible things. They make me cough.

I'm a big fan and currently have pumpkin spice latte on the go ! I just switch off when it gets overpowering .. covers up the old dog smell a treat !

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2024 19:27

I couldn't live with them. And I'd have to tell DH that. It would literally be me or them. Also ADHD!

Unless your DH hates you, just why?

Can you get him an essential oil diffuser and some essential oils you like the smell of? Much less toxic and disgusting.

WYorkshireRose · 21/10/2024 19:25

I don't trust them after I realised that the horrendous migraines I was getting were down to them. Throw them out.

Goatblu · 21/10/2024 19:22

We moved house a couple of weeks ago and even after a thorough clean, I can still smell the sickly sweet pong when I first walk in that the former owner had wafting about. It's vile.

BadPeopleFan · 21/10/2024 19:17

I love them however if DH couldn't stand them I wouldn't be using them anymore.
It's your home too and I think your DH is being an arse using something that makes you feel horrible.

Fizzadora · 21/10/2024 19:15

Throw them out. They are disgusting. The only thing I have ever tolerated is Neutradol block. B&M don't sell them but found some in Waitrose a couple of weeks ago. Stuck one in the shoe cupboard.

I hate all air fresheners/sprays etc - if there's a smell then open the windows for while.
