Martin Blake police officer today cleared by a jury of unlawful killing of Chris Kaba

Should police officers get more support. Perhaps not release name until after trial or inquiry.

Some of these responses are quite hilarious. My favourite has to be the one where someone thinks a long description of what armed police do should be yelled at people ramming back and forth into cars whilst surrounded by people. Great idea. Just crack on explaining what armed police are while your colleagues are getting squashed. Best to #BeKind ey Hmm

It’s amazing how quick people forget about the (justified IMO) outcry after Andrew Harper’s death 5 years ago. Cries of “more should have been done to protect him around those assumed dangerous” and saying protocols are too soft. We now have a man operating a heavy weapon, a weapon used the day before in a shooting; refusing the stop for police and behaving like a lunatic and the police are getting criticised for not having a softer approach.

I watched the video, the police did shout at him to stop several times 'ARMED POLICE' so they did do that first, he continued raming the car.

EsmaCannonball · 24/10/2024 09:36

I read an article that explained you are more likely to be killed by a lightning strike in the UK than you are to be shot dead by police. Chris Kaba was living a lifestyle that saw a raised risk of death at the hands of fellow gangsters as a price worth paying for big cars and expensive watches. Why did his parents raise him to be a gangster? If they cared about him, why didn't they intervene early to stop him entering that lifestyle? They are deflecting anger onto the police that should be turned inwards.

There have been several shootings in London in recent years where young children and other innocent bystanders have been left brain-damaged or paralysed or dead after gang members have sprayed bullets around, not caring who they kill as long as they also kill their rivals. All this concern about Chris Kaba when anyone can see from that nightclub shooting that he didn't care one tiny bit about murdering random strangers.

youre right in that losing a child, however terrible that child behaved, is objectively awful and devastating.

But it personally smarts with me that somebody would make a fuss about a Rolex (that there is no evidence he had on him) bought with money raised by being a criminal, by ruining lives, children’s lives at that. They don’t seem ashamed of his character and afraid that’s where I lose my sympathy

What is the Rolex reference about? I've not heard anything about that.

Edited to say: sorry, ignore me, just seen the post you quoted!

There's an interesting discussion to be had here about Kaba's family.

They've lost their son which is - regardless of his life choices - objectively awful.

Their son has also been shot (albeit legally and justly) by a police officer from a force that has been found to be institutionally racist.

They have also pushed an unfounded conspiracy theory that he was wearing an expensive Rolex watch when he was shot, which has subsequently disappeared, the insinuation being that it was stolen by police or NHS staff (zero evidence for either).

Are they being unreasonable?

Justsayit123 · 24/10/2024 08:11

It’s about right and wrong. Kaba was wrong. Blake was right. Khan and cronies wrong. Police right. Simple. Maybe some parents should start teaching kids right and wrong rather than letting them identifying as a cat or wolf, and all that shit.

Also I don’t know what footage/evidenve @username35890 has been looking at but Kaba was NOT stationery, he was told to put his hands on his face, he put in hand on his face and use the other to try and drive off - where there were officers standing. Not to mention an officer had tried to open to door and nearly got his hand ripped off because Kaba drove as he did this. Its in the body cam footage and in the evidence

Youre telling me those aren’t aggressive or dangerous actions?? REALLY.

this is a man who supports county lines. Do you realise how that destroys young people?? He also had a propensity for extreme violence and very little consideration for innocent members of the public considering he fired shots in a very busy nightclub simply because he saw a rival gang member. This is not a person who is gonna stop and think “My priority is not myself but other people”.

If you wanna defend a man who’s a career criminal, grooms children into taking drugs, beats women and shoots people then you do you - but quit making out you’re the paragon of kindness and intelligence because you’ve talked absolute nonsense this whole thread.

MilletOver · 23/10/2024 22:32

OMG - thank you… it hadn’t occurred to me before that at the time the judge lifted anonymity for MB he would have known exactly that CK was a core number of a murderous gang.

And the press and media who fought for MB to be named also knew it.

Disgraceful.

They created a new victim for this despicable gang.

And Khan, Claire Holland, The Runnymede Trust et al need to look very closely at their consciences as they breathe oxygen on to inflammatory rhetoric.

herecomesautumn · 23/10/2024 22:27

Reading of what @Lndnmummy ?

PersephonePotts · 23/10/2024 22:24

In the long run I hope this is a stark lesson for the CPS and society in general - all this bowing and scraping to those who shout the loudest and fear of being called racist has led to an innocent man being accused of murder for simply doing his job - a man whose now in hiding and life has changed forever. No doubt his family too. This was always going to happen to someone as long as the overly liberal can have tantrums and stamp their feet.

PersephonePotts · 23/10/2024 22:21

Now we know the facts I’m absolutely furious that a judge lifted an anonymity order knowing an extremely violent gang had a £10k bounty on information about Martyn Blake, and I am also horrified that the prosecution were allowed to so woefully misrepresent the character of Kaba and also of Martyn Blake. They said Blake’s motivation was anger and frustration but offered NO evidence as to this. Their own witnesses gave him glowing character references!

as for the whole “An expectant father working in the building trade” - to me this should be contempt of court. He’d battered the mother of his baby and worked in county lines, recruiting children to take and sell drugs. Disgraceful

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 23/10/2024 21:56

I'm so saddened by the discourse I'm seeing on social media. I hope it's a small minority.

Or accountability on herself!

the histrionics and dramatics from the family is shocking.

This is literally what I've been saying to my partner! I hope not another penny of the public's monet will be spent on this! You live by the sword...

Lndnmummy · 23/10/2024 20:44

Hateam · 22/10/2024 23:16

He could've complied and gone for the court of law route. He didn't choose that route.

He choose a different route. He choose to put other people's lives in imenant and immediate danger. It was a choice he made and it resulted in his death.

I think you have some reading to do.

I think the behaviour of CKs family and friends could well have contributed to the sort of rioting we saw in 2011, where 5 people died, many more were injured and much damage was caused in a lot of communities. It was right that his background was made public quickly after Martyn Blake was acquitted.

People are doubtless mourning him, but deflection from the fact that he was a fairly senior gang member, driving a car which had been identified in 3 shooting incidents in the last few months and crying foul on the police for their reaction to the situation that he caused helps noone. Gangs are wrong, county lines are wrong, protection rackets against innocent refugees are wrong. He was involved in all of these. He was on a bad path. He was not Stephen Lawrence or Anthony Walker, innocents who died because of racism.

I don't believe that his family and friends were unaware of his (very recent ) activities, some of which had resulted in imprisonment, which they would have fully known about. He wasn't a "good boy". He was a gangster who exploited others. That would be true if he was black or white. The police saw a man trying to make a run for it (and we can now speculate as to why, a possible attempted murder charge from a few days earlier) in a marked car that was associated with shootings, who then rammed them repeatedly.

Please tell me why they should have acted differently, how much leeway has to be given to anyone who behaves as CK did that night, with the knowledge about that vehicle that they had.

Edited

Quite right. And when the inevitable happens, will these people be held accountable for it?. Of course not.

I notice that all of the protestors outside the court (which didn’t include the family, they were photographed separately) waving Socialist Worker "BLM" placards were white. Just the usual bunch of trustafarians.

Well, you have to be a trustafarian to afford such luxury views as defund the police.

So I'm not being unreasonable then. They shouldn't be named. A bounty on the head of this officer is disgusting. The people who support the pond life that is CK are as vad as he is.

You were not unreasonable. It looks like your op said what has happened

I've just seen an update on my news feed that police officers who shoot suspects are to be granted anonymity while any investigation or court case is in process. I think that's a very welcome move and I am only sad that it cannot apply to this particular police officer.

This case has highlighted the need for some kind of ruling that prevents people from taking advantage of the vacuum of information caused by reporting restrictions surrounding legal trials to paint someone as an upstanding character and use that distorted narrative to raise money, politically campaign or agitate for riots. If the public can't be informed about someone's bad character then neither should they be wilfully misled about that person's supposed good character. We should either have full disclosure or no disclosure. One side should not be allowed to seize the narrative.

Hotandbothered222 · 23/10/2024 18:19

The ITV news report tonight has been full of the effect on the family and interviewed a man whose mother, Cherry Groce, was mistakenly shot in an event that sparked the Brixton riots. That was obviously awful, but this event is not the same and they surely shouldn’t be compared!

Khan is a parasite. He is a devastating risk to the future of London.

Search the video online, it was on the news yesterday. He was ramming police cars and had previously been in trouble over a shooting. The other people involved are all now in prison. He was a gang member.

Yes I know all about it now. I asked the question before his background was made public

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/10/2024 17:30

marshmallowmix · 23/10/2024 16:45

Yep!! Front and centre playing the victims! Jeez hang your heads in shame…or stay silent…can’t they be done for living off his criminal earnings??

somebody needs to dig into them as they were happy for the spotlight on them trying to stir up trouble!

Not being a legal expert I couldn't say, but there's some info about it here: https://mk-law.co.uk/proceeds-of-crime-act-poca/poca-limitations/

However can you imagine the howling if the family were targeted for such an investigation, even if it could be proved in the end that they benefited from Kaba's criminality?
