Martin Blake police officer today cleared by a jury of unlawful killing of Chris Kaba

Should police officers get more support. Perhaps not release name until after trial or inquiry.

And don’t drive a nice car while black (I don’t mean Kaba)! 🙄

You’ve clearly put zero effort into looking into this case if you think Kaba was being chased because he’s <checks notes> a black man in a nice car.

in fact you HAVE stated you haven’t really seen the evidence. It’s readily available, the Trial Podcast actually recreates the court room dialogue. How about finding out before assuming racism?

PersephonePotts · 24/10/2024 14:42

Apparently the dead man did not drive his car at a Police Officer until the Officer stood in front of the car to shoot him

So he did drive his car at a police officer then?

If you’re going to get involved in a conversation when I’ve quote tweeted another poster, maybe try not to be obtuse? Where did I say any of that? I was responding to a previous poster who said, ‘it was that he was a criminal who had been involved in numerous gun offences.’ None of that was known at the time

The irony of someone who thinks black people don’t perpetrate crimes against other black people calling someone else obtuse

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/10/2024 13:33

From the GoFundMe page: "Since 1990 there have been 1,904 deaths recorded by Charity INQUEST in or following police custody or contact. In that time not one officer has been found guilty of murder"

Since they mentioned "in contact" with the police it's interesting that Wayne Couzens wasn't mentioned, or Steven Jones and Karl Bluestone come to that, but then these funding requests aren't always noted for their objectivity or even truth

Have any of the organisations and individuals who called the death of a violent gangster a tragedy updated their public statements? That includes Jeremy Corben. If Kaba had lived he would have been tried and likely convicted of the shooting, and he already had multiple knife and gun related convictions and his pregnant girlfriend had restrictions against him due to domestic violence.

I think Jeremy Corbyn is having to keep his Nokia in a biscuit tin these days.

I know but someone upthread posted a long spiel about what else police should say and that they should have a monologue of what they’ll do if that person doesn’t stop and do as they’re told. Because grown criminals don’t understand “Armed police” to be enough to understand they could be shot

Indeed.

At least we can draw comfort that Mr. Kaba died doing what he loved.

Violent crime.

It is in a few newspapers now he gave £10k to the go fund me...the West Ham player...named as well all there in black and white. Appalling

PersephonePotts · 24/10/2024 12:33

It’s interesting how the gangster lovers have gone quiet on this thread since the extent of Kaba’s revolting crimes have been published

I watched the video, the police did shout at him to stop several times 'ARMED POLICE' so they did do that first, he continued raming the car.

They have removed the page but the opening detail link on intranet was:

5 Dec 2022 — In September, we heard the heartbreaking news of the death of Chris Kaba, a 24-year-old musician and aspiring architect who was expecting a baby ….

such BS

Justsayit123 · 24/10/2024 12:14

Same goes for Greenwich university who for some reason was kissing kaba’s arse…. Would not allow my kid now to go to that place.

I don't understand why people on this thread think it's important to note that CK was found not to be in possession of a gun. Given that the car was known to have been involved in a shooting the previous day, surely the police had to assume there was a very high chance he did have a gun and they couldn't know for sure there wasn't until they were able to search the car, which wasn't see-through. I imagine nobody in that situation would take CK raising one empty hand as reliable proof that he had no gun. Therefore, they had to act on the assumption that he did.

Schroedinger's weaponry, innit.

And what about the fact that despite being found not guilty he and his family now have a price on their heads!
He can't return to his job, he and his family now need new identities and will probably spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulders.
No he should not have been named unless found guilty. Who he or is family is has no bearing on the case.

I completely agree with this. There's too many idiots out there who would happily target any police officer, never mind one who ahs (legally) killed a gang member. It's not fair that he is now at risk for doing his job. I agree that police officers should allowed to be anonymous (unless found guilty) in the same way that I believe SAS officers, etc have been allowed to remain anonymous.

Sick isn’t it. And that’s West Ham also brought into disrepute by their player’s action. Perhaps he can stand beside Khan, Abbott and Corbyn and explain to the public why they are lauding the criminal and continue to support the persecution of the exonerated policeman.

That is appalling! everything that is wrong with society....

Ffs… can’t believe there’s a go fund me for the turd. And a West Ham football player has donated to it!!!

Police officers should absolutely be named at charge, the same as any defendant. We can’t have one rule for some members of society and another for others - especially if they’re police officers. Trust in the criminal justice system is low enough without such an affront to open justice.

There was no chance any jury was ever going to convict him on that evidence but I am glad it was tested in court. If it hadn’t been, public confidence in the Met would have been further dented and the victim’s family would have called for justice for the next two decades. The prosecution of a police officer shooting a member of the public is usually going to be in the public interest, even if there’s a likely not guilty verdict.

And what about the fact that despite being found not guilty he and his family now have a price on their heads!

I feel so sorry for the police officer who took the (justifiably) shot. His and his family’s life has been turned upside because of this little shit and his family and supporters. Kaba deserved it. Blake and the police didn’t,

Gawdzooksing · 24/10/2024 10:49

Am curious to know about the “team” supporting CK parents in their “fight for justice”. Thinking they are not doing this on their own . Who is arranging the photo ops, making the signs for the “protestors” …

What organization has glomped onto this family & how long will they stay interested ….

Wouldn’t it be lovely if the “team” shifted their focus to getting rids of gangs, street guns and knives so the police don’t need to be armed ….

I read an article that explained you are more likely to be killed by a lightning strike in the UK than you are to be shot dead by police. Chris Kaba was living a lifestyle that saw a raised risk of death at the hands of fellow gangsters as a price worth paying for big cars and expensive watches. Why did his parents raise him to be a gangster? If they cared about him, why didn't they intervene early to stop him entering that lifestyle? They are deflecting anger onto the police that should be turned inwards.

There have been several shootings in London in recent years where young children and other innocent bystanders have been left brain-damaged or paralysed or dead after gang members have sprayed bullets around, not caring who they kill as long as they also kill their rivals. All this concern about Chris Kaba when anyone can see from that nightclub shooting that he didn't care one tiny bit about murdering random strangers.

Absolutely right. Your chance of being shot by the police is tiny. Chris Kaba was living a life that guaranteed conflict with the law, and was violent. I don’t anyone should be sympathetic or surprised that his actions generated a lethal response from an armed police officer, which is very very rare in the U.K.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 24/10/2024 10:34

What is disturbing is the BBC interviewing random members of the public who say things like "the police should have shot the car tyres," who are not experts in weapons and how they're used. Irresponsible journalism.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 24/10/2024 10:30

He was portrayed as a loving expectant father when he had a restraining order on him for DV. How do Khan, Abbott and Corbyn justify defending someone like that?
