Martin Blake police officer today cleared by a jury of unlawful killing of Chris Kaba

Should police officers get more support. Perhaps not release name until after trial or inquiry.

I can assure you, in English law, using your vehicle to hit people deliberately wether they are in a vehicle or standing in front of you is considered to be using it as a weapon.

Wanting to escape is not an excuse.

Your comparison with Sarah Everard is disgusting and in no way relevant.

You come across as unhinged.

herecomesautumn · 24/10/2024 18:13

@Choochoo21 Have you seriously compared Sarah Everard to that vile wannabe gangster

Words fail me. That has got to be one of the worst takes on this that I've had the misfortune to read

Uricon2 · 24/10/2024 17:59

@Choochoo21

He didn't get out of the car when challenged because a few days earlier he'd shot someone (twice) and must have at least strongly suspected that when the police realised who he was, he'd be up on a serious charge (as the people with him at the nightclub later were). He thought he could ram his way out to escape arrest.

Comparing CK to Sarah Everard in any way is disgusting.

Using this logic, and applying it to the CK nightclub shooting … CK was using his GUN to escape from the threat and fear he was experiencing as result of seeing rival gang member on the dance floor. ???

@Choochoo21 , you seem to want police to be wrong so badly, that you have convinced yourself that CK was using an Audi A8 as a completely expected, safe, normal means of (lawfully?) evading contact with police.

Further, please explain why is CK so full of fear — which you so inappropriately compare to that of Sarah Everard. Sick.

I’m embarrassed for you.

I can't be the only one who thinks it's really rather offensive to draw parallels between Sarah everard, an innocent victim, and this career criminal, violent, woman beating, gun toting piece of scum?

How on Earth can you compare Sarah Everard with a career criminal?

Am curious to know about the “team” supporting CK parents in their “fight for justice”. Thinking they are not doing this on their own . Who is arranging the photo ops, making the signs for the “protestors” …

What organization has glomped onto this family & how long will they stay interested ….

Wouldn’t it be lovely if the “team” shifted their focus to getting rids of gangs, street guns and knives so the police don’t need to be armed ….

I can't remember the name of the group in question, but there was some middle aged white woman being interviewed on the TV yesterday saying she represented some lobby group or other that advocates for people who have allegedly experienced terrible/racist treatment at the hands of the police. This was AFTER we all knew exactly what CK had done, and she was still waffling on about how alarming it was that he was shot, and that the fight for justice should go on.

I despair.

You’ve clearly put zero effort into looking into this case if you think Kaba was being chased because he’s <checks notes> a black man in a nice car.

in fact you HAVE stated you haven’t really seen the evidence. It’s readily available, the Trial Podcast actually recreates the court room dialogue. How about finding out before assuming racism?

And you clearly didn’t read the words I put in brackets 🙄

EclipseoftheHeart1 · 22/10/2024 22:43

I agree with the poster we have armed police because of criminals of this level.

Gangster shooting each other I don't care for they play with fire. But county lines is something else and I'm disgusted that knowing he's involved in that the family had the cheek to make that statement.. County lines metaphorically ruins childrens lives, their familys lives...

I wish more people knew the extent of county lines damage. We live in an affluent area DD goes to a good secondary and we keep getting messages from the school asking us to not let them go to the park over the road after school as county lines recruiters hang out there. Apparently the school receptionist is forever calling the police and they don’t give a shit. One local woman campaigns for more action as her son committed suicide aged 17 after being recruited. County lines can happen anywhere and the trustafarians should be just as worried as it happening in their middle class communities and not just think it’s not their problem

Perhaps you should because the officer obviously needs additional training to shoot at such close range and then miss the intended target.

If this was not innocent person (which no one knew about at the time) then no one would be saying that police officer did the right thing.

I’m not saying that I could do a better job, because I absolutely couldn’t and commend the police.
I’ve worked in the prison system for years and dealt with many monsters and it’s because of the police that they are behind bars.

But the facts remain that this was an unknown, unarmed victim and the officers lives weren’t in danger.

Even terrorists are rarely shot dead.

Look at how many mass shooters they have in America and how many of them are shot dead, it’s not many because the firearm police are trained to only shoot to kill when absolutely necessary.

I do not believe the officer should be sent to prison or lose their job indefinitely but I do believe a suspension whilst he does further training would be appropriate.

If the person driving had been the mechanic taking the vehicle for repairs but behaved in exactly the same way as Mr Kaba, it would have been a lawful stop and a lawful shooting.

For someone who thought shooting the tyres would immobilise the vehicle, you sure seem to know a lot about firearms and police use in particular.

Why do you keep saying he was unarmed, he was using his vehicle as a weapon?

How the US choose to deal with mass shootings has nothing to do with this case, this is the UK and this was a lawful shooting.

.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 24/10/2024 17:14

He didn't miss. Got him in a single head shot.

He was literally ramming everything in his path with his 1.5 ton Audi.

Even terrorists are rarely shot dead.

They are shot dead if necessary to stop them further harming police or members of the public. Usman Khan was shot 20 times. Sudesh Amman was shot dead as well. It's a great pity that armed officers weren't on the scene more quickly when Lee Rigby was murdered.

There have also been multiple terror attacks involving vehicles, with the worst being the truck Nice in 2016 that killed 86 people out enjoying Bastille Day. I unfortunately saw some of the footage of the aftermath and it was grim.

The police in France shot the fuck out of the guy and I was glad.

TealPoet · 23/10/2024 00:06

I can’t possibly catch up on this full thread, and I don’t know all the details to make a complete judgement but what alarms me is how many people are saying he was unarmed as if that’s fine. When used as he was using it, a 1.5 ton vehicle really should be considered a weapon IMO.

I agree, a car is just as potent a weapon as a firearm is. Both require licences in recognition of how dangerous they are, both do have legitimate uses, both can also be used to murder.

After the recent murder in Paris (where the SUV driver had a history of violence) I'm beginning to think that driving licences should be subject to background checks, just as firearm licences are.

I am married to a black man. I am always worried that he will come to harm in the hands of the police.
No, Kaba didn't deserve every shot. He deserved to be answerable for any alleged crimes he committed. He deserved to be innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. No, he did not deserve to be executed.

He wasn't "executed". Whether he "deserved" to die is irrelevant, even when we had capital punishment such decisions were made in court. He was shot because the police officer held a reasonable belief that there was an imminent threat to human life, and that the only way to protect the public was to fire. CK had every opportunity to surrender, he could even just not live a life of crime. His own actions resulted in his death.

If your husband is a good person (which I'm sure he is, wives of gangstas probably aren't a core demographic for MN) then he's not going to be driving a car implicated in a recent shooting and he's not going to try and ram his way through a roadblock, is he?

Some of these responses are quite hilarious. My favourite has to be the one where someone thinks a long description of what armed police do should be yelled at people ramming back and forth into cars whilst surrounded by people. Great idea. Just crack on explaining what armed police are while your colleagues are getting squashed. Best to #BeKind ey Hmm

It’s amazing how quick people forget about the (justified IMO) outcry after Andrew Harper’s death 5 years ago. Cries of “more should have been done to protect him around those assumed dangerous” and saying protocols are too soft. We now have a man operating a heavy weapon, a weapon used the day before in a shooting; refusing the stop for police and behaving like a lunatic and the police are getting criticised for not having a softer approach.

I was thinking about Andrew Harper as well.

I think people are referring to the fact that under normal circumstances firearms officers are protected due to the risk of them being harmed. That was lifted for Martyn Blake for reasons I still don’t understand. It’s an anomaly and I think most people otherwise agree with you (I certainly do)

Frustratingly plenty of people on this thread are saying that no suspects should ever be named until they are found guilty - not just in this situation.

PersephonePotts · 24/10/2024 15:36

MoodEnhancer · 24/10/2024 15:21

To all of those people saying no defendants should be named publicly before and unless they are found guilty, you do realise that in some cases it’s only through naming people who have been charged that a number of serial rapists have been discovered and found guilty? David Carrick is an obvious and recent example.

PersephonePotts · 24/10/2024 15:33

I have to say, prior to Wayne Couzens my trust of the police was teetering on the edge, and when Sarah Everard was raped and murdered by an officer whose colleagues KNEW he was a danger, I fell completely out of favour with them. Even more so in the cack-handedness of the aftermath of all that. And my trust has never been recovered, and still isn’t.

But in the last few days I e a new found appreciation and sympathy for officers who are now clearly being scapegoated to appease criminals. They go to work to protect us - no matter the disgusting culture, individual officers take that risk every day not knowing if their lives will change. Firearms officers are voluntary. They are not paid extra, and now the CPS has done everything in its power to make sure we are going to run out of an imperative, almost invisible, service that protects us. I won’t lie - I’m shit scared at the thought of a shortage of firearms officers. Equally I don’t blame them if every single one quit that aspect of the job. So a big sarcastic well done to the CPS, prosecutors and mostly the half wit supporters of a child grooming wife beating scumbag, who are no doubt deluded trustafarians who can posture whilst in the safety of their cosy middle class homes whilst young people - mostly young black boys and men - in worse off communities are now at an even BIGGER risk of danger because there’s fewer people around to protect them.

If you still don’t get it - usually there are around 250 firearms applications per year from police officers. In the year since Martyn Blake was charged, there was six.

Let that sink in.

ItsTheGAGGGGGGGGG · 22/10/2024 20:42

There’s no such thing as black on black crime. That’s a phrased used in moments like these where people will say, ‘why has the news mentioned the percentage of black men that have been killed by the police when they should be focusing on all the black on black crime that’s going on.’

‘Black on black crime’ is just crime. Standard crime. No one says ‘white on white’ or ‘asian on asian’ crime as it’s just viewed as crime, point blank. I could link a few articles that explain this a bit more clearly but that’s essentially it

I’m another one confused by your wording but it seems what you object to is semantics and that crime shouldn’t have a profile?

Is that a blanket belief? For example do you not support ANY demographic being mentioned in crimes statistics? For example the number of women who are victims of DV at the hands of men? Is it just a crime and their sex is irrelevant?

It's a very, too large political , academic and media supported minority, I'm afraid.
There is even a degree, must have sense poster on here refusing to countenance why Mr Kaba had to be shot and that he and his sort are far more dangerous to the average Black person than the police.

And said poster wraps their identity in being "pro Black" like many of those weirdo privileged White women too liberal who have the financial choice to pick and choose which parts of "the culture" they can avail themselves of because they are not low incomned enough to have to live cheek by jowl with the more malignant parts of it.
And they know it; too.
Tom Wolfe called the phenomena "Radical Chic".
The only Black people who give a damn about them are usually "hypergamous" Black men with no interest in Black women and who frame racism towards Black people as Black Male ONLY suffrage ( that they expect Black and White women to sort out) and Black narcissists who use them as willing , constant supply ( and sexual/ financial gravy train).
Radical feminists, meat and potatoes Black or Others who do not live as tokens of Corporate Multuculturalism or dying to be paternalised by their no good good doing are their biggest enemy.....not White racists....real or imagined.

They need White racism and chaos that is caused by or effects too many Black people in order to have an identity and sense of being.

It's hardly ever the type of White person who the average Black person grew up with or amongst before leaving the parental yoke.

I'd be sick of them if I thought that most of the serious couldn't see right through their determined sociopathy.

Well they could have shot the tyres for one thing and immobilised the vehicle.

The car was boxed in and didn’t pose much of a risk because it couldn’t get the speed to do damage.

Shoot the tyres and then approach the car.

If he pulled a gun (which he wouldn’t have because he was unarmed), then shoot.
