Restaurants adding honey to cheese!

Baked Camembert ruined by drowning it in honey, same for mozzarella sticks.

Who started this awful trend for adding honey to perfectly good cheese?

Or am I weird for not liking it?

YANBU. Honey is horrible! 😖

I do love bees though. 🐝

I thought this too, until I tried fresh local honey. So absolutely delicious.

I was on one of the Greek islands earlier this year and saw fried feta with honey and sesame seeds on the menu. I was feeling brave and ordered it. It was delicious, the salty feta and honey complemented each other perfectly.

This is the only acceptable use of honey with cheese and I agree with you, it is delicious!

How the fuck did yi mak at assumption?

AmberDachs · 20/10/2024 16:41

Cheese bad enough on its own. Mozzarella sticks an exception. Add honey to ANY of it and it's an abomination. Gavel.

Probably vegetarians.

HerefordHeifer · 20/10/2024 16:30

It does seem to be everywhere at the moment. Goats cheese seems to be making a bit of a comeback as well, it disappeared for a while when all the veggie options went vegan, so I don’t know if that’s connected.

As I hate both, this is not a welcome development for me!

Tikttotk · 20/10/2024 16:28

I had goats cheese with honey yesterday. Stunning. Has it with salty crostini’s, fig jam, walnuts and pears.

Waffle78 · 20/10/2024 16:27

I love honey but keep it off my cheese. Especially camembert relish or pickle is the only thing that goes with cheese.

Doggymummar · 20/10/2024 16:26

I really like it

Oldraver · 20/10/2024 16:26

Even Aldi and Lidl sell it now

VictorianBigot · 20/10/2024 16:25

I don't like it either. Cheese and chilli, on the other hand...

PubicZirconia · 20/10/2024 16:25

Saganaki!

Halloumi did get so popular in UK,makes sense to try at least.

NetZeroZealot · 20/10/2024 16:14

Chutney has a lot of sugar in so it’s not a huge leap from pairing cheese & chutney to cheese & honey.
I’d think my hostess was a bit try hard though if she served it on a cheese board.

Didimum · 20/10/2024 16:13

Love honey on cheese. No complaints here.

Comedycook · 20/10/2024 16:13

Yabu. Sweet with savoury is delicious

GoldenLegend · 20/10/2024 16:13

Honey on goat or sheep cheese is a classic combination.

You need to get out more.

CurlewKate · 20/10/2024 16:12

Hot honey is delicious on a toasted cheese sandwich!!!!

TwigletsAndRadishes · 20/10/2024 16:12

Honey on halloumi is lovely. Surely it's mentioned in the menu description? If you don't want it just say so.

WonderingWanda · 20/10/2024 16:12

I like it. If's a bit of a fad at the moment but at least they're finally laying of the balsamic vinegar lately!

bluecomputerscreen · 20/10/2024 16:11

love it
honey goes so well with savoury. just a variation of a ploughman's pickle innit.

local cafe serves an open sandwich with sourdough rye bread, honey, mustard, pickles, old cheese, topped with a fried egg. yum.
