To say no to covid vaccine for DS?

Clarabell77 · 20/10/2024 08:55

My DS10 has asthma - mild albeit a chest infection 14 months ago ended up in an overnight in hospital on a nebuliser/steroid and he’s had to have a steroid once during that time for another infection.

He’s been identified as being at risk and offered a Covid vaccine. I’m not sure whether to allow him to have it as I’m sure he’s had Covid quite a few times when we’ve all tested positive at home - can’t test him as he won’t let me near him with a swab. He’s had mild symptoms, even when ours weren’t.

He’s had the flu vaccine twice and taken unwell within weeks on both occasions so I’ve opted out of that one this year. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Covid one? Ideally someone who has actual knowledge, not from YouTube, I’m not a covid denier or anti vaxxer.

AIBU to not get him the vaccine?

Do your own research is such a classic anti-vaxxer line. There is a reason you lot don't want to link to the "evidence".

“Anti vaxxer” is a handy (yet wholly inaccurate) slur for the uniformed to throw at those of us who did our own critical thinking.

It’s up to you what you do to your own body of course and by all means encourage (coerce) or guilt trip others. It’s their choice after making their informed decision.

Asking people to do their own research on this thread - in this case - means find the answers to their questions, their own evidence, and not to start a new career as a researcher in order to develop vaccines. I’d have thought that was fairly obvious.

These threads always remind me there’s no arguing with stupid. And you can call me all the lazy slurs you like, it’s QED.

This is the type of words conspiracy theorists who have swallowed it and disappeared down the rabbit hole use.

'Sheep' 'weak'

Whereas of course you are have more knowledge gained from tic toc, youtubers, X links and batshit spreaders than immunologists, scientists and other lifelong professionals with immense experience and knowledge. I know whom I rather listen to. You sound like Dave down the pub with his zero gcse's and no basic science knowledge. 😂

Choosenandenough · 20/10/2024 11:25

Yes you can. Hence the reason I said it was a difficult decision.

ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood · 20/10/2024 09:01

Don't you just long for the days before vaccines were invented? I mean, no dilemma to be had. What a shame clever people started inventing things to save lives/minimise the effects of a disease

This has to be sarcastic...surely 🤯

crumblingschools · 20/10/2024 11:24

You can get myocarditis from COVID too

Choosenandenough · 20/10/2024 11:23

Do we really have to split this into a ‘you’re clearly a superior being if you never question a vaccine versus you’re thick as shit if you do’ debate? There are risks of myocarditis associated with the covid vaccine amongst young males. That’s a fact. Despite people being told that wasn’t the case earlier in the roll out. Yes all vaccines come with risks. However people were told categorically at the time that the vaccine was safe for all. You actually can’t say that as no vaccine is safe for all and yet numerous medical experts and politicians did in fact say those very words. People are coming from a place of distrust because their trust was broken. I’m not saying this applies to me, I’m just saying that this is the situation and it’s understandable. OP no one can make the decision for you except you. People can tell you not to get it and there could be repercussions for your son, people can tell you to get it and again, there could be repercussions for your son - it’s difficult to decide but ultimately the choice is yours and you have to make the best choice you can based on the information you have.

Do not do this. I have a serious, lifelong autoimmune condition from the covid vaccine

And I have a serious, lifelong autoimmune condition from my very mild dose of covid.

Autoimmune diseases are usually triggered by a virus. A vaccine can also trigger it.

@Clarabell77 I could be wrong here, but I doubt you ever consider the risks of the food, drink, snacks and takeaways that your DS consumes. Unless you’re avoiding supermarkets and takeaways then I think you’re naive to avoid vaccines. If you don’t understand how adversely, popular white sliced bread affects your ability to fight illness, virus’ and disease then you probably shouldn’t make a decision that goes against what the professional healthcare providers suggest.

Three friends died of covid. One at 40 who had asthma.
Have the jag.

I can GUARANTEE an anti vaxxer is itching to tell you that you're wrong and then died from something else / with covid.

It's like bingo.

Covid vaccine caused my relative to get myocarditis and a pace maker.

How old is your relative, out of interest?

No there isn't (and which vaccine are you referring to?) Latest statistics absolutely do not show a link between any of the covid vaccines and cancer. Please do share your sources which say otherwise.

The average person doesn't have the first clue where to start properly researching scientific data (clue: not on Youtube) or have the training needed to critically analyse scientific or clinical trial data or clinical trial design or statistics. Which is why so many people, like yourself, are so easily convinced by anti-vaxxers/conspiracy theorist websites and Youtubers. You're being played.

The people like @Victoriancat who say they've had flu many times and just go to bed and sweat it out are the ones who've obviously never really had flu...

By contrast the people you always get on these threads who say they've only ever had flu once in their life and they know that it was flu because they were unable to move from their bed for a week have obviously very little sense of what a wide ranging family of viruses flu is, and the range of possible severities.

It's extremely unlikely that anyone has "only had flu once".

Plamas · 20/10/2024 11:10

My DH has had covid induced pneumonia twice, had damaged his lungs. I'd get the vaccine.

thaegumathteth · 20/10/2024 11:08

Burden of proof is a great rule to live by in my opinion and so anyone who makes assertions and then refuses to back them up is just not worth listening to.

Whenever I see people against the vaccines they almost always use hyperbole and don't have any actual scientific facts which, I don't know, makes me think they are talking shit tbh.

Re the flu vaccine, one year I forgot to get it for ds. He got flu, double pneumonia and was seriously ill. I've never forgotten again.

Really? You've been told this explicitly by medical professionals?

Lazy. Do your own research. Plenty out there on vaccine injuries much as it pains people to comprehend this.

Why stop with your own research? Why not develop your own vaccines? How hard can it be to replicate the knowledge base of thousands of biochemists and the resources of the biomedical community with a deep dive on Google?

itsgettingweird · 20/10/2024 10:52

Really Confused

Well o get the flu jab as my ds carer.

Use to get covid for that reason too.

Yesterday we went and he was offered covid jab too as at risk but I'm not entitled as his carer this year.

So I don't think they are begging people with unused vaccines!

Pointy, you should be getting Covid jab this year as his carer, I am pretty sure.

Eta: sorry, it seems only Wales is offering it to unpaid carers this year.

TheRussiansAreComing · 20/10/2024 11:01

It is hilarious that people worry about a vaccine (any / all), but never stop to think about the food they eat.

You should be more worried about the bread you buy rather than the vaccines.

You’re probably quite happy to poison him with Kingsmill. 😂

Tekphobebruvva · 20/10/2024 11:01

Just one of those unfortunate things in life nothing to do with the jab, good luck with the treatment.

How absolutely insulting and dismissive. How can you possibly know? This is dangerous, disingenuous and utterly flippant. “Nothing to do with the jab” FFS.

Comments like that should strengthen anyone’s resolve into thinking twice before they accept any jabs or numerous boosters.
