Friend catfishing neighbour on Insta - tell him?

My friend made a fake account for laughs on Instagram last year using photos of a model from Brazil and she has started using the account to catfish one of our neighbours because she thinks it’s funny. She has made it look very genuine and if I didn’t know it was fake I’d think it was a real account.

I personally think it’s really naughty to deceive someone I know into forming a relationship with a fake woman. I jokily told her she should stop but she didn’t think I meant it. The whole thing doesn’t sit right with me though but if I tell him she’ll think I’m a right backstabber.

She's not been naughty fgs , it's downright mean and emotionally humiliating.

I'd tell her she's a horrible person and she should stop.
I'd also report the fake account because even if she stops taunting your neighbour she could move onto some other poor bugger.

I'd be thinking twice about being friends with such a horrible bully

Your friend sounds like a childish bullying twat and I'd be reassessing why I was friends with her (as well as reporting the account, and/or telling the neighbour).

AgileGreenSeal · 18/10/2024 14:39

Tell him, gently.
Reconsider who you have as friends.

pictoosh · 18/10/2024 14:38

If this is true it's a horrible thing to do.

Why does your friend need to boost her ego by making a fool of someone? What's wrong with her?

TartfulRidesAgain2 · 18/10/2024 14:37

How would your friend react if someone was doing this to her for a laugh because they thought it was funny? That’s where the answer lies. If she wouldn’t like it then tell her to stop and tip him off is she refuses. I wouldn’t really care if she thought I was a backstabber. At least I’d know I wasn’t as nasty and unpleasant as her.

Arlanymor · 18/10/2024 14:36

It’s not naughty, it’s downright cruel to toy with someone else’s emotions. She needs to stop this before someone gets hurt. Tell her that if she doesn’t stop it then you will let the neighbour know.

That's really horrible. An ex student did that to another student where I worked. It really devastated him as he'd sent intimate messages and photos. I'd nip it in the blood and tell them.

GirlMumGabby · 18/10/2024 14:34

Report the account on Instagram. Get it shut down.

smallsilvercloud · 18/10/2024 14:33

Doesn't sound much of a good friend, I'd tell him if you weren't bothered about talking to her again. It is very immature

AlmostAJillSandwich · 18/10/2024 14:30

It's bullying, she's doing it to humiliate him!
She wouldn't like it if someone did this to her.
You should have told her more than just "jokingly" that she should stop, i'd be very bloody harsh and tell her she's being a complete bitch!
I couldn't stay friends with someone willing to do this.

Has he wronged her in some way? bIs she intereseted in him and he's not so shes trying to get revenge etc?
