My brother got married last weekend.

Lots of family photos taken by a photographer.

Family and bride and groom are now sharing these photos online.

Sister has now kicked off as she doesn't want her kids pictures on the internet.

This has been her wish since the kids were born and we always respect it, but she actively got her children in multiple photos on the day. She has even added random guests from the wedding to ensure they haven't uploaded any.

Brother has now removed them.

AIBU to think this is a bit shit? My brother has paid a lot of money for these photos and now he cannot share a set amount because sister says so.

Tell me if I'm being a crank but I just think if she felt that strongly about her kids ending up online, she shouldn't have pushed them into photos?

I’d be pissed off about this too. I think it’s very reasonable your brother would want to post his group wedding pics. If she was this bothered that she’s going to these lengths now (adding strangers, telling them to remove them) she should’ve thought about that on the day of the wedding when she was pushing her kids to be in the pics.

So if my sister doesn't want her kids on social media she's never allowed to have photos with the rest of the family?

If photos were taken outside the church it’s a public place and the parent has no say. I assume it’s a private link to a secure page and the photographer can remove after? Parent is being precious. If someone in the wedding party buys a group photo, what’s to stop them sharing online? Or general photos guests took of the day.

No it's sharing photos on social media not a secure link!

Instead of putting emoji stickers over the children could he blur them out or would it be a massively obvious?

What does it matter if there are emoji stickers on them though? It's obvious why it's done, and allows them to post the photo. It's not like the emojis will be on the version in the album or on the sideboard.

@Startinganew32 😂😂

No, she is just very forceful with her beliefs. She likes to be heard in every situation, by everyone ... that's all I'm saying 😂

I love them both dearly though x

Meganssweatycrotch · 21/10/2024 20:05

Why can’t he share them privately. Why is it always via social media.

thursdaymurderclub · 21/10/2024 20:05

my DD and SIL have just had a baby.. they have decided that they do not want any of his photos on the internet. Their baby, their choice! We get round it by using emojis or pixelating faces.

Not every photo ever taken has to be shared on the internet! We have an interactive photo frame, and there's where we share our photos..

BarbaraHoward · 21/10/2024 20:01

Genuinely surprised by the posts on here (and that doesn't happen often any more) that seem to view wedding photos as being chiefly for SM to the extent you shouldn't be in the wedding photos if you don't want to be online.

Reallyneedsaholiday · 21/10/2024 19:29

Your sister is being absolutely ridiculous. She has no right to dictate to strangers (or family) about whether they can or cannot post photos that she and her children posed for. If she has a problem with photographs then they needed to avoid the camera, full stop.

Why would you post photos of someone else’s children online when you know the parent isn’t happy with their child being shared? Like, you’re just a total c you next if you happily do that to someone.

I don't think it's a major issue. Does he really need to share all the photos on social media anyway? I have plenty of friends who don't post photos of their children on social media and that is absolutely fine. Brother can just choose a photo of him and the bride to share publicly.
It doesn't say anywhere the mum isn't happy they are in the photos at all, so save them for the family photo album only.

Tryingtobedifferent · 21/10/2024 18:58

My best friend doesn't have any photos of her children on any SM and I've known this since they were born and I have always respected that. Days out together, parties etc no photos get put anywhere.

It shouldn't be difficult to respect a person's decision about their own children's privacy. It doesn't mean that the children can't be included, but just post other photos.

Klozza · 21/10/2024 18:58

Genuine question, where does it say the sisters kids are girls? Everyones referring to them as ‘nieces’ but I can’t see where in the original post OP has said it’s nieces?

SockPlant · 21/10/2024 18:36

so why didn't he just put emojis over the children's faces?

ETA: well that will teach me to RTFT

sarah419 · 21/10/2024 18:34

he could easily blur their faces in the photos he uploads

crockofshite · 21/10/2024 18:33

Can he Photoshop the photos with the pesky kids, remove their images and replace them with other guests.

Sister had no business putting them in shot with other guests.

Coalsy · 16/10/2024 22:38

Its a group photo of 200 people.
Why did she allow her children to be photographed if she felt that strongly about it?
Absolutely fine if you don't want them on SM, just keep them out of large group photos then.
Really not difficult.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/10/2024 22:36

Google pics - edit and magic eraser. Just rub out their face

Like I've done below

Completelyjo · 16/10/2024 22:09

So she shouldn’t be able to trust any family member of hers to take or have photos of her children without posting it online?

Don't be ridiculous. Its a wedding group photo of 200 people and this silly woman is trying to dictate to her brother and his wife what he does with his wedding photos.
How many whole group photos will have been taken?

She should have kept her children out of photos if she felt that strongly about it.

SabreIsMyFave · 16/10/2024 22:24

YANBU @Strawbsss You don't let your kids be bridesmaids/pageboys at a wedding and then get all pissy and whiny because the bride and groom put some pics online featuring your kids. Ludicrous overreaction from the sister.

Brother should put them back, and just block her from viewing them. You can do that.

HowGoesTheStalkingLovey · 16/10/2024 22:21

Pics or it didn’t happen

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 16/10/2024 22:13

Why does he need to make them public just share them on WhatsApp or post ones without the kids in .

Completelyjo · 16/10/2024 22:09

Coalsy · 16/10/2024 21:05

She sounds absolutely awful.
Her children shouldn't have been in those photos if that is how she feels.
How dare she dictate such a thing.
Your poor brother and wife.

Oh and I don't have any SM and have never posted a single photo of my children on line.

Edited

Babbahabba · 16/10/2024 22:06

Can't they just blur the faces? I do this when posting pics of my own DC with any other DC (which isn't often).

MumOfOneAllAlone · 16/10/2024 21:34

I'd ask him to blur the faces out. Agree re emojis being a bit weird looking, but blurring a few faces shouldn't have much of an impact.

I'm the same, I've dealt with so much bullying in the past that I don't want people from the past having access to my dd. X
