Kylian Mbappe accused of rape - AIBU to be a bit shocked

Mbappe has been accused of raping a woman in a hotel in Sweden.

In Sweden they are confirming it is definitely him and they've reported on it because they feel it's in the public interest. The woman went to get medical attention and reported the incident straight after. AIBU to be a bit shocked if true? I know everyone will say what do you expect and don't look up to footballers etc, but I'm a woman who enjoys watching football and it's so disheartening how many footballers end up assaulting women. I thought Mbappe was maybe one of the good ones. Hope it's not true, but if it is, that there will be justice for the victim. Apparently Sweden has some of the best laws regarding rape on the planet, so that is encouraging at least.

Kylian Mbappé reacts with fury at Swedish reports of rape claim

Swedish prosecutors say a rape investigation had been opened in Stockholm without mentioning Kylian Mbappé, following media reports that the France captain and Real Madrid star was the suspect

I don’t have a hatred of females nor am I dehumanising women, I am simply speaking of this case and not all cases, hence me saying female and not females!!

As a female and a rape survivor I don’t agree that females crying rape is rare, it’s simply not statically reported.

Speaking of this case only, as I said innocent until proven guilty.

Woman = adult, female human being.

Female = female animal or plant.

Dictionary definitions for you. Using female instead of woman dehumanises women.

On what basis do you 'not agree' with fairly statistically reliable evidence?

Unfortunately rapists don’t come with a flashing sign so that you can avoid them. It may be shocking that a player you liked has been accused, many professionally successful men have been proved to be evil irl. eg didn’t Ronaldo pay off an American woman who made rape allegations ?

Kentuckycriedfrickin · 16/10/2024 11:14

If men don't want to be accused of rape then maybe they should stop doing shit that could be construed as rapey? If a man has sex with a woman and the acts that took place were so close to crossing the line that the women has to ask herself afterwards "was that rape?" then he is a piece of shit who does not respect women and has no business having sex with them, he is also chancing that one day a woman is going to answer that question with "yes" and is going to report him to the police.

If a man doesn't want to be accused of rape or sexual assault then he needs to be aware of a woman's boundaries, respect those boundaries, and he needs to always obtain enthusiastic consent. Instead we have too many men knocking around who think a woman... sorry, female ... is nothing but a collection of holes put there for his pleasure, who think "no" is a starting point for negotiations rather than the final word, and who act like the victim when they face consequences for being a sexual predator.

A man denies committing rape when accused and we all assume he's telling the truth? Since when?

Oh, I definitely don't believe him. I am pretty sure there is truth to this. Sweden is not the kind of country where you can falsely accuse someone, get away with it, and receive lots of money. I don't see what would be in it for the woman.

The whole visit was really odd actually. He came to Stockholm for a night went to a nightclub then flew back the next day. There was no official reason for him to come to Stockholm as far as the press is aware. Suddenly he was just papped leaving a club, the next morning the police are at his hotel checking his room.

it's true though that the rape laws in Sweden are excellent although the sentences are too short. A man was just sentenced for rape against children after having coerced them to show their bodies over the internet, so he was never physically near the children but it was still considered rape. I don't know if that's the same in the UK but I was surprised that it was considered rape.

It was very odd! There was a bit of drama with him not joining the national team because of an apparent injury, despite him being fine for club football, and then he randomly went to Stockholm?

The timing with his own trial against PSG is such that there's a lot of speculation on whether he's being set up by Nasser, who is notably bat shit and owes him 55 million euros. But that seems...how would Nasser know he was going to Sweden randomly and then also set some kind of elaborate scheme, that seems ridiculous even for Nasser.

You're shocked that a man with status, power and money is capable of raping a woman?

This.

Overpaid wankers who think they can force themselves on women and girls just because they excel at football, they think they're untouchable.

There have been occasions where this has indeed happened!!!

It is extremely rare for men to be falsely accused of raped, whereas men committing rape is not rare at all

Sigh. Although the statistics are difficult to calculate for many reasons, it is very rare. Unlike rape.

Referring to women as "females" is usually a telltale sign that someone is a raging misogynist especially when they refer to men as men rather than "males". Why do you feel the need to dehumanise women?

As for "crying rape", the number of false rape allegations made is tiny.

I wouldn't classify Mbappe as a decent human being, regardless of his alleged sexual activities.

Why @ilovesooty? I don't know much about him, so curious.

It is shocking actually that at this stage he was named by the press - at this stage only an allegation has been made rather than any form of trial (Mandy/Greenwood/Adam Johnson etc were all named after charges were brought I think) because he is now being tried before even being charged

as for believing it who knows I have no evidence in front of me

Alleged rapists are named to encourage any other potential victims to come forward, in the UK at least. This started years ago when reporting was rape was even less common than it is now. For victims, knowing you are not the only one, is a huge impetus to report to police.

I think that it's useful to remember that professional footballers are simply people who love and are talented at football and for multiple reasons have had the opportunity to progress to become famous.

The fact that they are now household names says nothing about who they are as people and so we shouldn't be surprised if they are charged with something illegal, whatever it may be.

We might have thought that seeing as they have what many would class as the dream life means that they should be less likely to throw it away, however I don't think it works like that.

itwasnevermine · 16/10/2024 10:37

Dotjones · 16/10/2024 10:24

I'm not sure why you'd be shocked, he's a top-level footballer. The surprise comes when one goes through their entire life without being found to be a rapist/child abuser/domestic abuser/love cheat or various other things. Power and status brings opportunity to abuse. Footballers are not in a position of power and of having status because of any inherent "goodness" of character, they are people - often with less than ideal backgrounds - who have better than average ability at kicking a ball about.

Obviously innocent until proven guilty.

Edited

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of elite sportsmen who have never raped someone.
