Pissed off to be told I can only 'carry boys'

AIBU to be pissed off at this. Two boy children absolutely love them and love being a boy mum.

Recently toyed with the idea of a third, but a friend told me that I can't carry girls I can only birth boys.

This really pissed me off and I don't know why.

I would love a girl, but I also would love a boy. It just the way she said it asif there was something wrong with 1. Me or 2. Having boy children.

Didn't we all learn at school that it's the sperm which determines the sex of a child? So if anything it would be that your husband can only produce boys (also clearly nonsense, btw, just less nonsense than what she said!)

I don’t get the obsession that so many women have about having girls. I have a boy and am pregnant with another boy. I would love either sex and am so delighted to have 2 boys. I think I’d be upset about someone commenting on my ‘inability’ to have girls as I’d take it as they think sons are inferior to daughters. And saying it openly to me, the inference is that they think I feel the same. Whereas I feel like I’ve won the lottery having 2 babies!

This! This sums up pretty much what I am thinking.

It’s absolutely stupid, I have 2 boys and have found out I’m expecting a girl. It’s just luck of the draw, no reason why you would be unable to carry girls!.

Congratulations xxx

If she maintains she is fine with this how does 'everyone know she's clearly not'?

You sound as ignorant as said friend.

I have stated numerous times that I don't care about gender - I love my boys and they love me I genuinely have no preference i crave the newborn bubble not 100% sure we will go on to have more.

There are a few genetic disorders that can lead to spontaneous miscarriage of male embryos, but they are very rare. And women who carry the DNA for those disorders typically show other symptoms. Outside of those rare diseases, there's no genetic reason that we know of for someone to have more boys or girls.@MooDeng not impossible with your mum but vanishingly rare for the majority. Plus my mum didn’t even know the sex of the babies she miscarried!

This was 26 years ago and I'm not sure she had any testing but that is what she was told. All babies were between 14 and 21 weeks, all males.

Your friend is an idiot.

And being a gym instructor has zero bearing on her knowledge of genetics and reproduction

She's an idiot

I was being sarcastic with my response bout her having full knowledge as shes a gym instructor, inwas just answeringanother comment! I just want to make this clear lol.

StressedQueen · 15/10/2024 19:13

Well I have 4 girls and 1 boy so her comment is a bit strange isn't it 🤔

Different thing but I always get so frustrated when people act like my son or husband are incredibly devastated to be surrounded by girls. I think they'll be alright. 🙄

espressomartinii · 15/10/2024 19:13

You can tell your friend that's not how biology works. She sounds a bit thick.

nosmartphone · 15/10/2024 19:13

She's sounds nuts but you getting mad suggests you're only having baby no 3 to get a girl.

I do know a women who's now popped out 5 girls and maintains she's fine with that - when everyone knows she's clearly not! She was desperate for a boy.

You're only annoyed because she's touched a nerve.

Svolvaer · 15/10/2024 19:12

I had two girls and then when I was pregnant for the third time I kept getting “you must be hoping for a boy this time” remarks all the time. I was in fact hoping for another girl! I had a boy and of course I love him to bits, then a fourth pregnancy and another boy so two of each. Gives the lie to “if you have two the same you can only carry (whichever)”

Genevieva · 15/10/2024 19:12

I know a lady who had 8 children - 4 boys then 4 girls. If she’d stopped at 4 she might have thought the same. While I’m not recommending you keep going until you have a girl, my point is that this is the way chance works. You’ll love your baby whatever it is.

booisbooming · 15/10/2024 19:10

I'd love to play this lass at roulette.

You should show her this:

ApricitySeeker · 15/10/2024 19:10

Weird comment. Would be more understandable if you had 8 boys but with 2 boys I’d say most people would have 50/50 chance of it being a boy or a girl. I had a girl after 2 boys and I know a lot of families that have had 2 children of the same sex then the third is the opposite sex to the other 2.

SophiaCohle · 15/10/2024 19:07

My mum used to say this to me whenever I said how much I'd like a girl after my two boys. One day I told her to stop it and said it felt as though she was putting a curse on me. She was really shocked as she'd thought she was complimenting me - which probably tells you all you need to know about her relationship with her daughters. Not sure what's worse really. People should just zip it.

Grammarnut · 15/10/2024 19:03

What utter nonsense your friend spouts. It's possible, of course, that your DP cannot father girls!

MrsWinkly · 15/10/2024 19:02

Crikey, what's she been sniffing?! Possibly the lost property locker...
Honestly, she sounds a bit challenging if that's the level she's pitching her conversation at. Just glaze over and look into the middle distance when she starts 'enlightening' you in future...
Don't take it to heart in the meantime x

LizzieLazzie · 15/10/2024 19:02

Well your friend is misinformed! It’s the man who determines the sex of the baby. All eggs have an X chromosome. If the sperm has an X it’s a girl, if it has a Y the result is a boy. Nothing to do with the woman. It’s a shame Henry VIII didn’t know this - he might not have divorced/murdered his unfortunate wives for not giving him a son if he had!

ThatRareUmberJoker · 15/10/2024 19:00

YABU for listening to her my first three children were girls and then my last was a boy.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 15/10/2024 19:00

Someone I know was told this after she miscarried two girls and had two healthy boys. It was clearly bollocks as she has healthy 26 yo twin girls now.

People can be ignorant, stupid and/or spiteful. Ignore them.

Thisgroupneverceasestoamazeme · 15/10/2024 18:59

There’s a bit of an old wives tale when someone has experienced several miscarriages and all their children are the same gender then people sometimes say this. I managed to disprove this theory within my own family. I wonder if that’s what your friend is thinking of?

DreamW3aver · 15/10/2024 18:59

I assume you're pissed off because you've found out that your friend is a thicko
