Pissed off to be told I can only 'carry boys'

AIBU to be pissed off at this. Two boy children absolutely love them and love being a boy mum.

Recently toyed with the idea of a third, but a friend told me that I can't carry girls I can only birth boys.

This really pissed me off and I don't know why.

I would love a girl, but I also would love a boy. It just the way she said it asif there was something wrong with 1. Me or 2. Having boy children.

Anecdotal but pretty much everyone I know with two boys who went on to have a third all had a girl.

I’ve vaguely heard things before about not ‘being able to carry’ boys or girls. I assumed it was old wives tale rubbish rather than anything with scientific backing.

Teaandcake90 · 15/10/2024 19:54

Gender is determined by the man’s sperm not the woman’s “ability to carry” 🤦🏼‍♀️. She sounds a bit thick.

She sounds awful! I don't understand why some people go into the profession.

She was awful and not a very good teacher either. If she hasn't seen the error of her ways by now, I hope at least she moved to an all-girls school where she would cause less harm.

Garlicnaan · 15/10/2024 19:52

I'm surprised people know the sex of the children they miscarry - don't 90% of miscarriages happen before 13 weeks? How would you know the gender then?

mumstheword223 · 15/10/2024 19:51

What an odd thing to say? My aunty had 5 boys before she had a girl ..

lazarusb · 15/10/2024 19:49

I had a miscarriage in my second and third pregnancies. My friend said perhaps I couldn't carry boys - despite already having a son! I did point that out to my friend and she suggested that I'd developed this inability after my son was born! It's bloody ridiculous.

I very much wished for a big bouncy healthy son for my DS's primary school teacher (childless at the time) who repeatedly over the course of a year told the class that girls were better than boys and was a total cowbag to the boy-ish boys.
If I was being kind I'd say maybe she had some residual childhood trauma that she was trying to rectify by belittling these boys and making them feel like crap.

Eugh I hate that. I miscarried three babies after my son and was told by my friend: 'Maybe they were all girls and you just can't carry a girl?' 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

People can be really thoughtless.

Someone actually said that to you?! My goodness! That’s so awful in so many ways. I’m so sorry.

AD1509 · 15/10/2024 19:44

does she understand it’s the male who determines the sex of the future child?

BiffandChip2 · 15/10/2024 19:44

It's all rubbish. I had two boys then a girl. People love to spout at you when you've got two of one! They all say how my girl must have made my life - honestly she's hard work 🤣

My grandma had 2 boys - and then 5 girls. I am not recommending this as a course of action 😂

Wow. I am exhausted after 2 toddlers, never mind adding another 5 into the mix.

momtoboys · 15/10/2024 19:42

I have five boys. I also experienced two miscarriages. One miscarriage was far enough along that we found out it was a girl. After the 2nd one and the subsequent boy pregnancies, my OB told me anecdotally that I was probably unable to carry girls. There were no tests done (if there are any), nothing to base that on except her experience.

nOasistickets · 15/10/2024 19:41

opinions are like arseholes - everyone’s got one. Your friend sounds mega dumb to say that tho.

JohnTheRevelator · 15/10/2024 19:36

Eh? What utter crap she's talking. Nothing wrong with having only boys. Also,I am a 61 year old 'girl' born after 2 boys, plus a friend of my DD's had a girl after having FIVE boys! Also, note Victoria Beckham. A girl after 3 boys.

Tadpolecat · 15/10/2024 19:36

I'm guessing she meant it as a joke? Not a funny one though, maybe if someone has had a few of the same sex, rather than just two, but still not very funny.

redalex261 · 15/10/2024 19:35

Yeah, your friend is daft. I cannot believe you are even allowing this to annoy you - Should've discarded this statement as un-evidenced bullshit as soon as she uttered it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/10/2024 19:35

I forget his name, but some well known boxer who had 2 boys, once stated that he could only father boys. He didn’t IIRC say in as many words that it was because he was so unbelievably masculine, but that was clearly implied.

Stupid twats are alas not in short supply.

I would say @Soonenough had it right in the first post

CurlewKate · 15/10/2024 19:34

Complete nonsense. I have a guilty crush on an actor with 5 sons. His fans say he's so masculine he can only make boys. That's compete nonsense too.

Squeezetheday · 15/10/2024 19:33

As others have said, she’s an idiot and should try reading a science book 🙄 jack shit to do with your “carrying”

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 15/10/2024 19:33

ErinAoife · 15/10/2024 18:21

Bit stupid comments from your friend. If you want a third child go for it you have 50 % chance that it is going to be a girl!!!!

Not actually true. It's something like a 70% chance that she will have a boy and 30% chance that she will have a girl. But that's statistically, at a population level. It's not the OP's personal chances of having a boy or a girl.

Trixiefirecracker · 15/10/2024 19:31

My friend has four girls and then a boy. It annoys her equally when folk go on about how she kept going until she had a boy. Just to illustrate the other side of the coin! She didn’t really care at all just happy to have healthy children.

I was being sarcastic with my response bout her having full knowledge as shes a gym instructor, inwas just answeringanother comment! I just want to make this clear lol.

I think the sarcasm in your post was fairly evident!

Next time she says anything just ask did she never pay attention in biology class? It's the sperm that decides the sex of the baby.
