I know I’m not the only one and don’t think I am being unreasonable tbh but didn’t know where else to post this.

In the past week or so there have been five serious attacks in the UK but what we have plastered all over the news is the police apologising to a deluded xl bully owner, when he’s the one who failed to do as he’s told.
What kind of message does that send?

The other day armed police were called to Stockport because of a dangerous dog and three people were injured. There’s only one little article about it in the Star. When did this ever used to happen in this country? It’s not normal.

I just don’t see why normal, decent people should have to live in fear of these scumbags and their dangerous dogs. Nothing is being done, how can something be banned if there are exemptions?
When the dogs do attack, the owners get months in prison which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

It’s like being in possession of something worse than a loaded gun or a lion. Nobody’s allowed pepper spray though - you can get 4 years in prison just for carrying it apparently.
If they at least increased the jail time maybe that would deter people from owning these dangerous dogs.

I agree that they are, but they should not have been bred to begin with, and then they were imported to the UK, see ‘Killer Kimbo’. I dare say that if one of your family members were mauled (Heaven forbid) you would change your mind.

We can't just kill them though

Of course we can.

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 15:02

It would be ideal if the government would rehome them with professional trainers or something till they die out

It’s the owner not the dog 🙄

Of course it isn't. 🙄🙄🙄

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 14:57

I agree but they are living beings too

well when someone makes stupid claims I will call it out if it offends then so be it

I have no issue at all calling someone stupid who owns an xl bully especially when they have children (maybe adult child, one hopes) and claim to have done lots of research beforehand

and point proved over and over again about how stupid people are in regards to dangerous dogs by a number of posters on here

the real issue is very soon another family shall be grieving due to one of these dogs mauling a family member to death, the parents may have been stupid enough to have one as a pet or it could be the responsible owner or the neighbour or a stranger walking down the road. The point is another child or adult will die very soon because a stupid person thought their xl bully wouldn't attack and kill but they do and at an alarming rate

and yes there are other breeds that have killed too I feel them same about those breeds to but this breed is particularly strong and too often vicious just why put others at risk its selfish and stupid

For another post, it seems that the children are aged three, eight and 14.

itwasnevermine · 14/10/2024 14:55

@ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName they're little more than weapons though. Clearly the current laws aren't working so stronger ones need to be introduced

This is getting boring (explaining to halfwits not the discussing of the problem).

XL BULLIES SHOULDN'T EXIST!!!!!!

They are derived from Pitbulls.

Pitbulls were banned in the 90s

Therefore XL bullies exist because of illegal breeding.

THEY ONLY EXIST BECAUSE OF ILLEGAL PRACTICE.

Therefore they should all be at least neutered but preferably culled.

We are all getting sick of hearing about children, adults and animals being mauled and killed by these monsters and we shouldn't have to be hearing about it because they SHOULDN'T FUCKING EXIST!!!!!

All you people who have bought one, regardless of how soppy you think Jaws is, have contributed to the problem of illegal breeding of dangerous dogs. Well done, 5 stars to you.

We can't just kill them though

You are incredibly rude. It is possible to commincate with class to get your point across rather than attacking someone who clearly loves their dog.

I don't care for staffie's either. They scare me. I only once or twice got close up to one, and one of those times I got a soft bite. I felt like it wanted to eat me

HidingHereForTomorrow · 14/10/2024 14:45

It’s the owner not the dog 🙄

HidingHereForTomorrow · 14/10/2024 14:43

What I find pathetic about the ‘It’s the dog, not the owner’ issue is how they ignore the dogs instincts that have been bred into them. A collie pup will herd, a pointer pup will point from 3 months old, a greyhound will run down small prey.. which is why they are often muzzled, not through aggression. Although there will always be exceptions to the breed. Yet suddenly XLs behaviours who have been bred from blood sport dogs are given the out of it being the owners fault. I’m not talking about Staffies, or American bulldogs. Just these XLs that have appeared in the last 10 years, and if you don’t know the pedigree of your dog, then more fool you.

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 14:41

(I guess not that time though)

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 14:40

@JazzyJelly You're probably right, but they are very intelligent and obedient dogs

JazzyJelly · 14/10/2024 14:37

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 13:54

I was once walking someone else's alsation and I wasn't used to it and he pulled out his retractable long lead and I couldn't rein him in and he jumped up (happily) at this elderly lady and I felt so terrible. I realised later on another walk when he lunged forward too fast that he is really much stronger than me and it was just good behaviour that kept him on his lead on those walks

It always scares me when I see powerful dogs on retractable leads. I have a GSD, but he's walked on collar, halti, and harness, with a two point lead and a belt, so three points of contact. They're strong dogs and retractable leads just aren't suitable for them or any other big breed!

PumpingIrnBru · 14/10/2024 14:26

She's not being rude at all, pointing out what 99% of posters (and the general public) think

notatinydancer · 14/10/2024 14:34

@ZippyLimeSnake happy you're a good owner.
You see the argument that's it's bad owners not bad dogs.
We have a police and military dog trainer in the family , any dog can go at anytime.
That is the problem.

And with an XL bully it would be impossible to get it off a person as you may be able to do with a smaller breed.

JasmineFontana · 14/10/2024 14:32

The thing that blows my mind about people who have children and these dogs is that most of us spend our lives trying to avoid taking risks with our children. Accepting that while we can’t eliminate all risk, we can do our very best to keep them as safe as possible and not take silly chances with their safety.

So the idea of willingly bringing a huge and unnecessary risk into the house is crackers! The owners must surely know there is some risk - even if they are ignorant to the full extent - so I don’t know why you’d ever happily increase the odds of something terrible happening to your children. It is just absolutely insane.

PumpingIrnBru · 14/10/2024 14:26

HRTQueen · 13/10/2024 19:11

That is absolute nonsense

of course other very serious dog attacks and deaths from the attack it’s reported and breed of dog is reported (on occasion incorrect at first)

but within the last few years the vast majority are from XL’s and they are certainly not large numbers of these dogs about thankfully but still far too many. no one would stand a chance of one of these dogs attacked and how many adults would it take to drag one of these dogs off a child being attacked

your defending of the breed is ridiculously stupid

You are incredibly rude. It is possible to commincate with class to get your point across rather than attacking someone who clearly loves their dog.

AutumnLeaves1990 · 14/10/2024 14:20

MrsSlocombesCat · 14/10/2024 12:37

There is literally no point in claiming that your dog is safe and friendly. All the dogs who attack have been considered safe and friendly until they do attack.

Exactly. You may as well say "my dog hasn't attacked or killed anyone...yet" 🤦‍♂️

I have an XL Bully and honestly he is the biggest dope and all he wants is for you or anyone to just love him.

Until he turns on you and kills you as has happened to more than one owner

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13500719/amp/woman-killed-xl-bully-lost-arm-cctv-incident.html

Reading that list of fatal attacks at the end of the article is just horrifying.

They all need to be PTS.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/10/2024 13:52

@ZippyLimeSnake

Disagree RE the article I posted . She thought they were soft enough to "dance with" there's footage of her doing so, and THEN they turned so ferociously they ripped her arm out of the socket. It's outsiders who've called them extremely aggressive after the fact, she thought they were big softies who would never hurt her. She called them her babies.

YOYOK · 14/10/2024 13:52

I’m a dog owner and dog lover.
It will be a cold day in hell before I’d ever allow my children to even knock on the door of someone who owned an XL bully. I wouldn’t allow them to visit the houses of their friends where there are guns or used needles or XL bullies. Those dogs are dangerous. I am surprised children’s services haven’t taken a harder line on those killing machines sitting on the sofa with small children but they’re swamped with everything else so this must have to go on the back burner.
