Anyone else just wish these xl bullies would disappear?

I know I’m not the only one and don’t think I am being unreasonable tbh but didn’t know where else to post this.

In the past week or so there have been five serious attacks in the UK but what we have plastered all over the news is the police apologising to a deluded xl bully owner, when he’s the one who failed to do as he’s told.
What kind of message does that send?

The other day armed police were called to Stockport because of a dangerous dog and three people were injured. There’s only one little article about it in the Star. When did this ever used to happen in this country? It’s not normal.

I just don’t see why normal, decent people should have to live in fear of these scumbags and their dangerous dogs. Nothing is being done, how can something be banned if there are exemptions?
When the dogs do attack, the owners get months in prison which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

It’s like being in possession of something worse than a loaded gun or a lion. Nobody’s allowed pepper spray though - you can get 4 years in prison just for carrying it apparently.
If they at least increased the jail time maybe that would deter people from owning these dangerous dogs.

Please don’t come at me for what I am about to say.. But in a lot of cases it is the owner not the breed, I have an XL Bully and honestly he is the biggest dope and all he wants is for you or anyone to just love him. Yes they’re powerful and sadly for them they did eventually become a status dog and fall into the wrong hands. Unfortunately the media also only like to ever tell you when an XL bully has attacked where as other dog attacks the breed is nearly always never stated another thing I have come to notice is that not always if the breed correct when they state it’s been an XL bully, there have been occasions where it’s actually a mix breed. It is sad the dogs and us owners have gotten a bad rep as a lot of us and our dogs are really not bad. None of us wanted our dogs to become banned and put under the dangerous dog act as a lot of our dogs are not dangerous and to be entirely honest banning a breed doesn’t sort out the issue as another dog will eventually become a status dog. Cane Corso have been extremely popular since the XL ban. What does need to happen is some form of license for people to own any breed of dog as they all pose a risk an XL isn’t the only dog to ever of killed someone and they won’t be last.

I am not being biased as I totally agree these dogs are strong and yes can totally be dangerous with the wrong owners but getting completely rid of one breed will not stop another taking its place.

I hope we're not reading about you torn to shreds by your "biggest dope" any time soon. Plenty of owners have been torn apart by their great big fur babies. All these dogs have never hurt anyone ...until they have!

I love dogs. Have 2 myself but I would fully support a mass cull on XL bullies. They aren't like normal dogs, they can turn at the drop of a hat hence why owners have been mauled by their own dogs.

The sheer arrogance and stupidity of the owners is horrendous too. They are all a complete danger to society and I worry that people are become so accustomed to hearing these stories now that nobody is really surprised anymore.

I don't know what the answer is or what it'll take but yadnbu to feel like this.

Nezuko22 · 13/10/2024 19:41

I don’t think any dog should be kept as a pet, I think dogs should have jobs. An XL bully would be great at protecting live stock for example. It’s bred to kill, which is why keeping them cooped up in a domestic setting will probably cause them to snap.

Penguinmouse · 13/10/2024 19:39

Agree. Don’t buy the “there are no bad dogs, just bad owners” bollocks because otherwise we’d be hearing stories of chihuahuas and labradors attacking children. No, it’s always XL bullies because they were literally bred to do this.

J1Dub · 13/10/2024 19:39

The "it's the lower not the dog" reasoning could be said about anything dangerous, from knives to nuclear weapons. They're dangerous.

Dweetfidilove · 13/10/2024 19:37

Them and their owners 😔.

I'm sick of hearing how nice and friendly everyone's dog is too. I'll still don't want it in my space, thanks.

VWAirbag · 13/10/2024 19:37

They should be PTS. I think the argument about whether it’s the owners or the dogs is a bit meaningless- maybe they would be safer in the hands of better owners but as we have no way to ensure only good owners can have them, nobody should have them.

BellaQueen · 13/10/2024 19:34

Really sorry but I think all need to be put to sleep under law.

No it's not always the owner. Idiotic humans have bred them so extensively to be aggressive in the years gone by that it has become genetic in some dogs. Which sadly means that good dog owners end up in the situation your sister and her child did. I'm sorry that happened to them and I hope that they are both doing well now, horrible situation all around.

Thankyou, they are well but it took years for her son to feel comfortable around dogs again.
They now have a dopey spaniel who he loves.

MugPlate · 13/10/2024 19:19

Google “Toadline bulldogs” and tell me we’re a nation of dog lovers.

Prescottdanni123 · 13/10/2024 19:17

carly2803 · 13/10/2024 19:09

they all need culling,

we also need dog licences for every single dog/owner - if you dont have one, your dog is removed and you have 28 days to sort it or the dog is pts - harsh but its out of control now

While I would be happy to get a dog licence - as well as preventing a lot of dog attacks on humans, it would stop a lot of human abuse towards dogs - how could we possibly police this?

ThatsNotMyTeen · 13/10/2024 19:17

I agree they should all be rounded up and put down. As for the “no bad dogs only bad owners” trope yes bad owners don’t help but they are also attracted to vicious breeds. How many golden labs or cocker spaniels savage people or animals to death? These xl bully things, pit bulls etc are not pets.

That is absolute nonsense

of course other very serious dog attacks and deaths from the attack it’s reported and breed of dog is reported (on occasion incorrect at first)

but within the last few years the vast majority are from XL’s and they are certainly not large numbers of these dogs about thankfully but still far too many. no one would stand a chance of one of these dogs attacked and how many adults would it take to drag one of these dogs off a child being attacked

your defending of the breed is ridiculously stupid

Prescottdanni123 · 13/10/2024 19:07

To the people saying that 'it's the owner, not the dog' is a load of rubbish, where do you think these dog's came from? They didn't just fall from the sky, they are the way they are because humans originally bred them to be like that in the first place. And for some individual dogs, it has become genetic. So however you look at it, this entire situation is the fault of humans.

redtrain123 · 13/10/2024 19:03

Yes, one scared a local dog and owner recently, according to Facebook reports. Makes me nervous walking my dog alone.

Moujojojo · 13/10/2024 19:01

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 13/10/2024 17:48

Imo it really is the owners/breeders.

A lot of people breed and sell these dogs with no thought about who they're going to, or the training required. And a lot of people buy them for their look and reputation. I feel terrible that the dogs are treated this way. It's completely wrong.

I don't think it is.

About 6 years ago my sister got one as a puppy, it was a lovely pup and she is a really good dog owner.

One day it just went for her son, they weren't even on the same couch. She has no idea what happened.

Luckily it was only 12 months old so she managed to get him off very quickly but she said he just switched and his eyes went like saucers.

He was PTS

SleepwalkingInTesco · 13/10/2024 18:58

YANBU
Very antisocial people swearing at/intimidating others and walking their XL bullies without a muzzle near me. Very frightening esp with children.

Pussycat22 · 13/10/2024 18:18

It's usually low intelligence, unambitious, low life numpties that need them to boost their image.

I totally agree. It's always a certain "type" of owner of these awful dogs.

Mayaamelia · 13/10/2024 18:55

I agree and it’s just so frustrating knowing that nothing new will happen and attacks will continue

OP posts:
HRTQueen · 13/10/2024 18:53

They should all be put down

it won’t happen as government will not want to take such a harsh stance or one of harsh fines

so until they disappear (which also won’t happen) we shall hear of more attacks and fatalities from attacks

but as long as we don’t upset the good response owners 🙄

Was it not muzzled? I thought they had to be muzzled in public places. Some owners really are beyond stupid, if your dog harasses a horse of course its going to get a kick.

No, not muzzled!
