Anyone else just wish these xl bullies would disappear?

I know I’m not the only one and don’t think I am being unreasonable tbh but didn’t know where else to post this.

In the past week or so there have been five serious attacks in the UK but what we have plastered all over the news is the police apologising to a deluded xl bully owner, when he’s the one who failed to do as he’s told.
What kind of message does that send?

The other day armed police were called to Stockport because of a dangerous dog and three people were injured. There’s only one little article about it in the Star. When did this ever used to happen in this country? It’s not normal.

I just don’t see why normal, decent people should have to live in fear of these scumbags and their dangerous dogs. Nothing is being done, how can something be banned if there are exemptions?
When the dogs do attack, the owners get months in prison which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

It’s like being in possession of something worse than a loaded gun or a lion. Nobody’s allowed pepper spray though - you can get 4 years in prison just for carrying it apparently.
If they at least increased the jail time maybe that would deter people from owning these dangerous dogs.

I have an XL Bully and honestly he is the biggest dope and all he wants is for you or anyone to just love him.

Ffs. Absolutely sick to death of reading bullshit like this🙄 They're all the "biggest softie" or whatever until they maul you or your child to death.

Agree. They should all be euthanised

No please ask away. I am completely happy to answer any questions when people are polite about it.

I did do some research yes, I also spoke to a few dog walkers locally who I had seen walk them & 2 dog trainers. All had very similar outlooks on them. I’m not saying this for all XLs but I can comment on my own dog. He is very well trained, I spent a lot of time from when he was a puppy training him, socialising him ect. I am able to give him commands without speaking & only using hand gestures, as can my children. & this is why I am very much, it is the owner not the breed as I have been put into real life situations where I have had to use his training in a proper situation against dogs who totally do not listen to their owners.

You did do some reasearch and still came to the conclusion it was a good idea to get an xl bully

🤯

and you have children. I am hoping they are at least adult children

It’s not always about the owners though some dogs have these traits bred into them and there’s nothing you can do about it
and all dogs can turn . They are not programmable machines or robots
my aunt had a very well trained dog he would follow all commands and was a very loving family pet. One day, while sitting in the front room, he grabbed onto a visitors arm and wouldn’t let go . In front of everyone and out of nowhere. There was nothing physically wrong with him either -he just did it.
dogs have tempers and different emotions, just like humans do
I was in the corner shop about a week ago, and I reached down to pick up a newspaper from the bottom shelf and had a very cute looking sausage dog who
was on the other side of the shop on a lead go absolutely berserk at me . Before that it was placid
it irritated me and scared my daughter . I told the lady owner to control her mutt .
my neighbours XL bully also went for some kids downstairs where I live , until the owner managed to rain it back, and then he started shouting at the children to stop running because it’s angering his dog, I mean wat the fuck. He should not have this dog either. He is a raging alcoholic and the dog often whines all day waiting for him. It’s not a friendly dog however
where I live I am over run with them. I don’t mind dogs though really just fed up with how many of them there are . My dad has a lovely husky and I love her to bits - she behaves like pluto the cartoon dog she’s so silly but I wouldn’t leave my young child alonewith her

Edited

I totally agree with you. I wouldn’t leave any children around any dog no matter the size or breed. As everything you have said is true, any dog can turn regardless of the training, I do not leave my children alone with my dog & that isn’t because he’s an XL that’s because I wouldn’t leave them alone in a room with any dog full stop. I am just commenting on my own dog that he is very well trained & isn’t just some mindless monster running around as I think this is the assumption most people have on XLs.

But why risk it when there are so many other lovely breeds out there? Even that aside, don't you mind that most people think less of you for owning such a breed?

We have a dog problem in this country.

We take the piss out of the US with their ‘right to bear arms’ but were no better with our destructive dogs.

They kill children FFS.

Not to mention piss everywhere everywhere I go they’re piss puddles up corners of walls on the floor everywhere. The local council created a lovely new promenade along the river where we live and it’s just full of piss stained street furniture where owners let the dogs piss up everything

chouxchoux · 14/10/2024 10:04

An acquaintance of mine had her dog (2 year old cockerpoo) killed last week by two XLs off the lead. So this has been on my mind a lot the last few days.

I also follow an ex colleague on Instagram who has two young sons (3.5 and 1.5 year olds) and an absolutely gigantic XL bully. She posts a lot about what a softie he is and how she's lost friends because she keeps him unmuzzled in the house with her two young children. I get genuine waves of dread whenever I see her post as I can't help but imagine a day where she's posting about the loss of one or both of her kids, god forbid.

They should all be euthanised IMO. Enough damage has been done.

Sorry if this feels like an attack on you - but another interested in the mindset, did you research the breed and risks before buying or was it you knew your friend and the puppy’s parents?

Other than size, it seems you were after a very different type of dog - Newfoundlands are personality wise not like XL bullies.

No please ask away. I am completely happy to answer any questions when people are polite about it.

Why would you have a pet that you couldn’t overpower though? Like it’s not even a case of not leaving your child unattended with the dog. If the dog goes for the child you’re fucked because you couldn’t actually do anything to stop it. Even if you’re in the room watching it.

it blows my mind that people choose to have dogs like that in their children’s homes.

Edited

Yep, the average XL bully weighs more than me and I’m on a diet. And that’s not chonk on a bully, it’s muscle. If one goes for your child, you have no hope of stopping it, short of trying to kill the dog.

I know my poodle cross could go for you, all dogs can snap and turn, just you could probably kick my dog and clear the posts. (Please don’t, I love my yappy fluffball.)

lastgreat · 14/10/2024 10:01

My 5 year old had something that looked xl bully like, but maybe slightly smaller, jump up at him yesterday and chase in the park. It started nipping his t shirt. He has minor scratches and luckily nothing else. The owner was a perfectly respectable looking woman who just couldn't control it. Why do people have these big strong dogs they can't control?!

Toomanysquishmallows · 14/10/2024 10:00

@PennyCrayon1 , I agree

ACynicalDad · 14/10/2024 09:53

Any dog bred for muscle has no place in a domestic environment. It would be a better world if they were all PTS and the current dangerous dogs legislation and no breeding should carry over to a lot of breeds that have no purpose today and have a realistic chance of fighting.

HRTQueen · 14/10/2024 09:51

Ffs other breeds are mentioned Zippy

I am not apologising for calling out the stupidity of all owners of these dogs that’s part of the problem not offending supposedly responsible owners 🙄 it’s irresponsible having such dogs

point has yet again been proven on this thread

Okay, but let’s take a deeper look into the article. Here is something that stood out to me…
All four dogs, understood to be two XL Bullies and two Staffordshire Bull Terriers, were described as being 'extremely aggressive'.

So she had not just one aggressive dog but all four of them, to me that seems like there is a bigger picture.

Well instead of sending people to overcrowded prisons for months on end, at huge public cost, perhaps judges could just sentence people to be slapped on the wrist instead if there is no material difference. It would help solve a lot of problems.

I originally wanted a Newfoundland, but was struggling to find any breeders locally and the breeders that I did find were either hours and hours away or had no planned litters due. A friend of mine said her friends dog had just had puppies and thus we ended up with our dog after a few visits of seeing mum and dad.

Sorry if this feels like an attack on you - but another interested in the mindset, did you research the breed and risks before buying or was it you knew your friend and the puppy’s parents?

Sandybeaches5 · 14/10/2024 09:08

ALL dogs can be dangerous if they suddenly turn on you, but XL bullies are more than capable of killing an adult with ease, never mind a child!

You might think your lovely dog is dopey and loveable, and he probably is. BUT, you have no idea if and when he could suddenly snap and attack you or someone else. He's an animal, and you can't take that instinct away.

& I do completely agree with you! I would never ever trust him nor any dog 100% no matter the breed. My nans dog attacked me when I was a child as I accidentally tripped over her, I think she was a spaniel, my nans had so many dogs I’ve lost count but I think that’s the breed she had at the time. & I fell over her playing in the garden and the dog came & attacked me. My son when he was younger got bitten outside a cafe by someone’s shitzu who apparently had never done that before. 2 random dogs whilst I’ve been out walking mine have tried to attack my dog whilst he was doing his business. So I agree, dogs are animals and they do run on instinct and sometimes they switch. But that can happen with many other breed as well. I follow a charity who tries to save seized dogs and yes before the ban many XLs appeared on their page but another big breed that was constantly on their for biting people usually their owners were Rottweilers yet you don’t see people wanting to mass cull these.

As I said in my previous post, 9/10 when an XL Bully attacks someone it is always stated what they are, yet whenever it is another breed they’re rarely stated.

autienotnaughty · 14/10/2024 09:21

There should be dog licenses and categories for types of breeds with restrictions on who can own certain breeds.. All breeders should be registered and regulated .

None breeding dogs should be sterilised.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 14/10/2024 09:21

Rubyupbeat · 14/10/2024 09:10

New type of breed, French bulldogs bred like xl bullies, but in minature. They are the scariest breed I have seen, yellow eyes and henched up naturally from puppies. I am a dog owner and dog lover, but these are a horrible sight to behold, bred by ex cons, used for many different things and some can go from 10 grand upwards. They look like demons and are vicious.
Get rid of one breed and another will quickly take its place.

What breed do you mean? Do you mean pocket bullies?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/10/2024 09:12

I feel sorry for the animals themselves because is not their fault, but yes - they never should have been bred, and it would be better if they all ceased to exist immediately before their traits are passed on.

I also wish the people who created them and choose to keep them would disappear. I am pretty sure the loss to society would be nil.
