DH won’t let me use his account

PBJlover · 13/10/2024 11:19

DH pays for a Spotify subscription. I’d like to be able to use it to listen to music while getting ready in the morning (a time when he doesn’t use it). Also I could use my phone to play music for us in the car, instead of him trying to DJ by fiddling with his phone while driving. He wants us to buy a second subscription for me instead of letting me login with his. Mostly because he doesn’t want me to “mess up” his Spotify “Wrapped,” which gives you a report of what you listened to at the end of each year. I am sick of us paying for so many digital subscriptions. Yes, it’s only a few dollars a month, but such subscriptions add up! A streaming service here, a storage app there… etc etc. Am I being unreasonable to wish to use his account?

Please tell me he’s not really fiddling with Spotify while driving?!

None of this will matter when you are all dead and/or in jail for killing other road users.

When driving I change the songs on Apple Music on my husband’s phone, which he already has connected to the car for sat nav.

If your husband is ao picky then tell him he can dictate the music but you have to be the one who physically selects the songs. Or you drive.

Bjorkdidit · 13/10/2024 11:50

I don't get it. Unless you're on the breadline why don't you just pay the extra fiver a month for the Duo account so you both have your own log ins and you use it how you want to? Or put up with the adverts.

Or is this somehow about more than his Spotify account and there's inequality or controlling behaviour in the relationship?

Well, it would help me if I did understand. Is that so weird?

I bet there are things you do that he doesn't understand.

To answer your question, no. It’s interesting how he doesn't like the generated suggestions. He also thinks I’m weird because I’ll enjoy turning on the car radio and flipping around and hearing new music. He only wants to hear the 90s and 2000s rock he knows and loves.

Edited

Do you two even like each other?

Partner and I use the same one. It makes no difference to our lives, I just scroll or skip passed one of his song and vice versa and we all survive. Nothing is ruined.

Don’t think anyone is suggesting anyone wouldn’t survive are they? Is the husband suggesting that?

Op will survive and nothing is ruined if they get a duo account.

or are preferences only allowed when it’s a matter of survival?

It’s interesting for seeing your music listening, lots of people tracked this even prior to spotifys unwrapped.

Also he never looks at any of the generator playlists and picks stuff from there to add to his own?

youre wanting it for a limited amount of usage, so just use the free account, yes there’s ads, they’re relatively short in length.

I hate it when someone messes with my Netflix algorithm so I am with DH.

PBJlover · 13/10/2024 11:29

Free account has commercials.

And??

You can't have your cake and eat it op

PBJlover · 13/10/2024 11:44

Well, you've had it explained to you multiple times, but still seem to be being a bit obtuse about it all.

I don't understand why you can't just let it be and pay for your own account. If you don't think it's worth the money, suck up the commercials and use the free version, or get your music elsewhere.

I wouldn't want DH using my account either.

Captainobvious35 · 13/10/2024 11:47

Me and my partner have a duo account. It’s minimal extra money for unlimited music/podcasts, etc at your fingertips. Nobody ruining your algorithms. If you’re that bothered (which you seem to be) just get a free account and deal with the adverts! Leave your poor husband’s Spotify alone.

Maybe someone here could help me understand why the Wrapped report is so cool. He doesn’t use the recommendation or generated playlist feature, and I don’t use it enough to ever cut in to times he listens, so really the sole benefit he wants from the extra cost is the Wrapped report.

If he wants his stats to be his stats that's fair enough. He might want to be able to share it with his mates without them laughing at your choices.

blankittyblank · 13/10/2024 11:46

I mean, if you don't understand it I don't know what will make you understand. But the wrapped is an anthology of what you've listed to for the whole year. I read a lot of books, and I'd love something like this to tell me everything I've read. It's a similar thing. I totally get it. If you don't then fine, but I don't understand why it's so bewildering to you.

MosaicRhino · 13/10/2024 11:46

OP why ask the question if you're just going to ignore the majority of the responses 🤣 if you just want to hear that you're right then find a friend to do that for you.

Specifically on the wrapped feature, it's interesting, it actually reminded me of some podcast series I loved at the beginning of the year and I went back to look and they had released a new series, and best of all I was in the top 1% of listeners for a band and got a video message. Kind of cool.

I love my husband but no way is he getting into my Spotify account

Ok.

Some people really like it. They enjoy it.

Thats the explanation.

Is the wrapped report the equivalent of where you tell yourself that you buy hardly anything but healthy fresh fruit and vegetables from Sainsbury's - but then your Nectar round-up at the end of the year reveals that your most-bought items were Yorkies and Wotsits?!

😂 yes that's it exactly

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 13/10/2024 11:45

Well I agree that I don't see what's so important about Spotify unwrapped, but I know other people like it. I don't think he's being that unreasonable - how much extra is a double account?

Slightly missing the point but obviously he shouldn't be pissing about on his phone choosing music while driving!

ahemfem · 13/10/2024 11:45

Sorry but I'd be annoyed to. It's like when someone has used my nextflix profile.

PBJlover · 13/10/2024 11:44

Mrsttcno1 · 13/10/2024 11:39

You don’t need to understand it, you just need to accept that HE does.

I wouldn't want my Spotify messed up with anyone else's shite lol I have only just realised that I felt this way and it's not just about Spotify wrapped either. My favourite albums and specific songs and podcasts that are all mine in my little Spotify world lol. Get your own, it's not exactly gonna break the bank to add you onto his plan. Don't turn this into an issue about your husband not willing to share something that you don't see an issue with. Looking forward to the incoming posts about how much of a selfish controlling twat he is though because that's how it usually goes on here lol.
Nobody would ever get near my Spotify and I'm not a selfish controlling twat and if I had someone in my ear insisting I share it with them I would tell them to fuck off

This is starting to read like a Spotify add. It’s against their TOS for two people to use an individual account. He’s explained to you why he doesn’t want you to use it. Just because you don’t think his reasoning is sound doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a reason. He also wouldn’t be able to listen at the same time as you so you’d be depriving him of enjoyment for the sake of wanting to avoid a few quid.

Either get your own, get a family account or put up with ads

PBJlover · 13/10/2024 11:41

gemsgv · 13/10/2024 11:39

I used to share my account (that i'd had for a few years) with my daughter and it completely messes up suggestions. If I'm playing 90s music for example, it starts suggesting other 90s bands that you'd forgotten about and it's very useful. When my daughter started using it, it completely messes all of this up. In the end I paid extra for the duo account just to get my suggestions back

He doesn’t use the suggestion feature.
