Blood urgency lose bowels stomach cramps

Hi I’m just seeing if anyone has been in this position before … I am not diagnosed I did have a colonoscopy in may and the lady never took no biopsy just said everything looked great and that was that my doctor wasn’t happy as he said sometimes it’s only visible through biopsies so now I have to go back at the end of the month for the past 2 weeks I have been experiencing urgency each morning and throughout the day going 5/6 times
Each morning I get the worst stomach ache but when I go the toilet it’s just gas and loads of blood but it’s just pours out and then after abit I will have a solid bowel moving with blood init and then lose bowels with blood init
Also getting a lot backache
My doctor said to not do another calprotectin test as they have all come back high my last one was nearly 700! So he said something isn’t right this has been going on since 2022 since I had my son via c section and every couple months it comes and goes my bowels will be completely fine and then one day it will just go all down hill and I’ll have all these symptoms .
But what is worrying me the most is when I get on the toilet it’s just loads of gas and then blood will just poor out not sure weather it’s diarrhea mixed but just looks like watery blood to me I’m at a loss and I just can’t wait to find out what is going on I have 3 small children at home and I’m sat worried everyday all day .
Can I ask also what was your first symptoms of IBD before being diagnosed ?

Also having a lot of mouth ulcers but mainly ones on my tongue that hurt so much 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Shauna2866 how are you doing?

I have ulcerative colitis and get terrible mouth ulcers when I'm in a flare. When I was admitted to hospital with my first major flare, one of the first things the consultant asked me was whether I'd been getting mouth ulcers.

I hope you're soon getting much better, OP. Your symptoms sound very similar to mine, but with the right treatment (steroids initially, now on a med called mesalazine), I've been in remission for years.

Same here.
OP, I would present at A&E for that amount of blood loss tbh. I've been told to before when I've gone into a big flare up. I've had inflammation markers up around 6000 before but the colonoscopy didn't show that much. Also conversely quite low but everything looked angry. They need to redo that for you ASAP!

Shauna2866 · 16/10/2024 10:24

@spiderlight this is what my doctor is thinking I may have with the high calpro test and all the symptoms I’m experiencing.
did you have urgency with lose bowels and blood in the morning I am not going as many times as you said you went but it is abnormal I am going anywhere between 6/7 times a day my doctor did try and get my appointment quicker but they said they can’t it’s in 2 weeks so I’ll have to just wait and pray it doesn’t get any worse

My Mum had very severe Crohn’s - she was diagnosed aged 11 and had half her bowel removed over the course of her life. Mouth ulcers are associated with Crohn’s. I’m not saying it’s definitely Crohn’s but it does sound like it could be. The reason I’m posting is because if you are losing that much blood you should go to A and E, the doctor isn’t wrong to suggest that, you seem surprised that they’ve said that but actually losing that much blood is an emergency, regardless of the background or whatever other things you’ve got booked in.

Completelyjo · 15/10/2024 21:35

The ulcers could definitely be related, I have a family member with celiac disease and another with crohns snd colitis and both had lots of regular clusters of mouth ulcers during flare ups and before diagnosis.

@Shelleyfromthesea doctor called me and said she will try and see if I can have my colonoscopy sooner but they said they can’t as it’s only 2 weeks away and if my symptoms get worse for me to go A&E!
and with me already having high calprotectin levels there is no point in doing another stool test
I did have a colonoscopy in may this year but no biopsies was taken just if they took them I wouldn’t be sat here in pain each day and wondering what is going on but not long now I’ll just wait and hopefully I’ll get some answers to why I’m experiencing these symptoms thanks for checking in x

So sorry you’re still really struggling and are having to wait until the scheduled scope.

How are you feeling this evening?

orangesarethebestfruit · 15/10/2024 20:21

@Shauna2866 I'm worried by the amount of blood you are losing - the end of the month is a long wait when you are losing so much blood. At the very least I think you should get your hb levels checked in case they are now dangerously low.

Shauna2866 · 15/10/2024 11:39

@Swissrollover hi yeah I am avoiding most foods tbh as each time I eat say 30 mins after I need the toilet the mornings are the worst for me it’s just a lot of blood mucus only and a lot of gas sometimes gas only and blood 🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s a worry to go out but yeah not long now and hopefully I can get sorted out it’s miserable living like this everyday
x

Swissrollover · 15/10/2024 07:37

I imagine you are hardly eating, but are you avoiding particularly irritating foods? These can be foods with seeds (tomatoes, berries, seeded bread), leaves like lettuce/ cabbage, sweetcorn, nuts, high fibre foods like brown rice/ pasta/ bread, most fruits and veg unless they are well cooked and deseeded.

When flaring badly with Ulcerative Colitis (urgent blood and mucus up to about 25 times daily), I can tolerate things like smooth soups, tinned fruit, mashed potato, tender meat, yoghurt, kefir, etc. Also anything listed on your colonoscopy bowel prep should be easy to digest.

Hopefully not long now until diagnosis, then they can finally start medication.

@Angrymum22 I only get sores on my tongue never on my gums and ye so have mentioned it but he’ said maybe connected maybe not

OP posts:
BlueMum16 · 13/10/2024 14:49

Have you tried a food diary to see what your triggers are?

Some IBD can run from mouth to anus all through the digestive system.

Angrymum22 · 13/10/2024 14:12

Itiswhysofew · 13/10/2024 10:50

Salt water mouth wash, lozenges, mouth wash for the ulcers. Ask a pharmacist for help. I wouldn't imagine they're related to your bowel problems, but a pharmacist will advise.

When are you due for further tests? If you're frantic and have symptoms today, go to A&E?

My DM has a dreadful time with diverticulitis of many years. I really feel for her. She'll be having an MRI soon, to see what else could be going on.

Crohn’s disease commonly presents with large mouth ulcers. They are usually found on the tinge and gums and can be quite large and round.
Have you reported these to your GP.
They are very much connected to your other symptoms.

Shauna2866 · 13/10/2024 14:07

@AngelsWithSilverWings nope they have not suggested anything other to wait till I go to my appointment

OP posts:
Shelleyfromthesea · 13/10/2024 12:48

Your high calprotectin levels could be an indication of IBD but until you have further tests, which now should include biopsies, it will be a wait and see approach.

When I had my first colonoscopy, because disease could be seen, I was started on meds immediately. Then there was the wait for the biopsy results/MRI and the medication was changed.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 13/10/2024 12:27

My daughter has ulcerative colitis and had FC test result of 1800 when she was admitted to hospital pre diagnosis. She had blood pouring out of her and had lost all control by the time the GP and hospital took us seriously.

She now has infliximab infusions every 6 weeks and is on azathioprine. Her last FC result was 60 which is considered fine for her ( her lowest since diagnosis was 30 )

Each time she's had a colonoscopy they have taken biopsies and all have been fine.

You need more Gastro investigations. Have they not even suggested foam or enemas to see if it helps stop the bleeding?

Shauna2866 · 13/10/2024 12:03

@GretchenWienersHair I have one booked in for the 31st of this month hopefully I’ll know what I’m dealing with then did you have high calprotectin levels before being diagnosed also ?
this is the worst flare I’ve ever had they come and go but this time it’s been really bad

My calprotectin results have been in their thousands during a flare. I’m now in remission and my recent calprotectin results were normal. I have Vedolizumab infusions every two months which have been great for me.

Shauna2866 · 13/10/2024 12:13

@GretchenWienersHair not sure my doctors 0-50 is normal anything over is abnormal but I have had a lot of them done and each one has been high sick of it now can’t wait to see what is causing this it’s the urgency it’s a worry to go out
I haven’t been eating good cos I have no appetite I forced some soup down me last night and couldn’t manage all of that

OP posts:
GretchenWienersHair · 13/10/2024 12:08

@Shauna2866 I can’t remember to be honest as it was a long time ago, but I’ve never known my calprotectin levels to be lower than 300. They can get much higher than that though. I think up to 150 is considered “normal”?

Shauna2866 · 13/10/2024 12:03

The symptoms you describe are all the symptoms I had before being diagnosed with Crohn’s (and still have those same symptoms during flares). Please push for another colonoscopy.
