FWIW, I have a relative called Penelope who was Lolo as a baby. She wanted to use her full name when she started school, but her parents and siblings still occasionally use Lolo at home, and friends sometimes call her Lo. Lola, Lolo, and Lo are all pretty common diminutives for Penelope and Delores, although probably more so in Spanish-speaking countries.

Lola's sometimes also used for Charlotte, so I don't see why Lolo or Lo would be any more of stretch. Since this is for a teen rather than a baby I'd just suggest she keep generating possibilities, maybe run them by her friends or have them suggest some, until she finds one that she likes that sticks. She could also try Lotto or Arlo or Charo or Chaz or Chuck - it's not like she's going to be legally changing her name or anything, it's just for fun.

Tootjaskoot · 13/10/2024 05:04

How about Lola?

JLT24 · 13/10/2024 05:02

Lolo is awful.

Lottie, Charlie, Char, Charl are ok.

By high school nicknames are the sort of thing that just happen. You don't pick your own, and you definitely don't have your mother pick one for you.

Or worse, have a bunch of strangers online do so.

yes she wants a nickname as everyone else has one

Well, there's a lollo rosa lettuce, so you know what will happen if you try to foist lolo on her...

TwinklyNight · 13/10/2024 04:00

If she doesn't care for Char, Lotty or Charlie she needs to earn it through life I imagine.

and charlotte is a funny girl

Right...

Well I'm sure her friends can find her something suitable.

I came to energetically say that you were being unreasonable and accidentally clicked that you were not being unreasonable and now that vote is there forever.

I don’t like it OP. But help us understand the issue. Is it that she wants a shortened name or that everyone else has got nicknames?

Lolo? Goodness no. Lottie or Charlie. Lolo sounds like when people write "lolol" when they think something is extra funny.

Nicknames happen. Don't force something like this, it's not even nice sounding. Why are you trying to find her a nickname when she's a teenager? That's odd.

Edited

Have a lively personality, obviously.

C'mon you know Lolo sounds like a working girl.

Do you love your daughter?

Don't call her Lolo then.

LOL now that you mention it... working girl does come to mind!

Sunshineclouds11 · 13/10/2024 03:24

Char
Lottie

Charlotte's I know go by these

PeloMom · 13/10/2024 03:18

Loki is a bit loco

Myotherusernames · 13/10/2024 03:09

The obvious ones are Lottie & Charlie although a friend of mines daughter is known as ChaCha but her friends gave her that name in school, I also got my nickname from school friends but if you're looking to give her her own nickname it won't really work will it as you'd constantly be reminding yourself & other family members to call her that

She might get nick named Lilo Lil (character in Bread)

Not good.

Peakyblinder18 · 13/10/2024 02:54

Do you mean a nickname or a short version of her first name. I would you wonder why you would choose lolo in either circumstance.
Ridiculous to the point of really ridiculous.

tolerable · 13/10/2024 02:45

chazzer. ...is the only one wurse than lolo.

Kedece · 13/10/2024 02:21

GraceOMalleyReturns · 13/10/2024 02:01

Don’t nicknames just kind of happen? You don’t just announce what your nickname is to people who have known you for years. That’s just asking for kids to take the piss out of her.

Exactly. Choosing a nickname for yourself is never going to work. Certainly not something like lolo which sounds like a dog or a character in a children's book.

Why doesn't she start using Charlie or Lottie

LibertyCaps · 13/10/2024 02:03

It's absolutely a not OK scenario where your mother gives your nickname.

Ohh OP.

MumChp · 13/10/2024 02:01
