Things someone has done that suddenly made you weirdly attracted to them

I got to work this morning and I have a bit of equipment that I use that I always struggle setting up.

I turned up a bit early and put it on the table ready to set up. A guy I work with who honestly I have never really even liked as a person and am DEFINITELY not remotely
physically attracted to, picked it up off the table while we were all chatting before our shift, and wordlessly constructed it for me.

For a minute I thought he thought it was his and was very confused, but he handed it to me once done.

I cannot stress how much I am not attracted to this man but it was weirdly hot.

Please share your versions of this so I know I’m not a complete weirdo!

Pulled me out of a really deep ditch he’d watched me fall in because of a speeding car on a country road then caught my horse. I just remember looking at these forearms when he was pulling me out then I looked into a pool of brown eyes. I was pregnant within the year 🫢

Some of these should be novelised! 😁

InSpainTheRain · 11/10/2024 20:59

Totally understand OP! I count myself very lucky because my DH is one of those guys who can fix anything! He actively looks for things to mend! If I get stuck I whatsapp him (we work 2 floors apart) and he'll come down and fix it. Even the neighbours turn up as they know he has jump leads, wires for charging weird stuff and many different tools.

Kingsleadhat · 11/10/2024 20:56

Friend and I were sharing a pub table with a couple of men and towards the end of the evening we got chatting. No one appeared to be remotely attracted to anyone., it wasn't a flirty conversation. As we went to leave I put my coat on , but left the top button undone. One of these guys stood up and very gently did my top button up, smiled and said "it's cold out there". Blimey. I still feel a warm glow about him years later

I think my fate was sealed when I used to stand in front of my husband in choir. Beautiful rich bass baritone, rumbling through my back. Swoon!
But the other thing that does it for me is respect. Guys who really see others as fully human and worthy of dignity.
Like yesterday in the car park of a hardware shop I was trying to get something really heavy off my trolley and into my car. Every time I started to move it the trolley came too 😆 So this total stranger asks if he can help. I said yes can you please hold the trolley. He did exactly that, no trying to take over, no argument about me lifting the heavy thing, nothing to prove to himself or me.
I agree with you all that competence is VERY sexy but someone who also sees/respects my competence is just... yes please 🙏 😍

Cherryicesonice · 11/10/2024 20:51

It’s probably a bit narcissistic in a way, but I find it massively attractive when a man seems to a see a glimpse of who I think I am inside rather than the flustered chaotic mother person I present (and also am!).
A man who dares to scratch the surface , let’s say. It’s sexy to feel ‘seen’.

Dreamsofwildhorses · 11/10/2024 20:49

Totally with the competence porn.

But also passion for whatever they do!

I got collared by a man on a wildlife charity stall in a supermarket, touting for new members, i could so easily have just passed by. But he then spoke so passionately about what he was doing and why he was doing it, it really sparked my interest and we chatted for ages. I then signed up and when I left he asked if he could give me a kiss on the cheek. I massively crushed on him afterwards but never saw him again!

This reminds me of a viral Facebook post over lockdown. He posted a load of before and after pics of jobs he had done around the house while his wife was working. He said something like if your relationship is a little bit stale send her some housework porn women love that shit.🤣🤣🤣

I'm quite hooked on the farrier on Insta/TikTok - attractive, muscly, tattoos, loves animals...

The way he shoes a horse so competently, all while being nibbled and licked by a horse and looking fire at the same time... oh my!

I know exactly who you mean. He has beautiful hands and firearms. He can hammer me anytime.

I had a male colleague in a previous job who always seemed to know what I wanted or needed before I did. He was very sweet but much too young to be fanciable, but oh my it was such an attractive quality. My DH of about a hundred years is a lovely man but he's oblivious to that sort of stuff.

There's a man at my current work who has this aura of capability and calm about him that makes him hot, even though he really isn't all that. He's very clever and can fix things, a combination I find very attractive. Hmmm, reading that bit back I think I'd better keep out of his way Blush

I have a colleague ahem, manager that sounds like your current colleague. Intellectual and you would assume perhaps a bit weedy, but he's also extremely practical and does loads of his own building work.

Have a slight fluctuating crush thankfully as it used to be a bit all-consuming when we worked closer together, but it doesn't help that we are very much on the same wavelength.

Think this is probably the crux of why so many relationships and affairs start at work - the men are presenting their best, most competent selves!

this is such a lovely lighthearted thread that I feel my “confession “ is not in keeping.

It is fair to say that for the last 10 years I have been in a loveless, emotionless marriage. It was 10 years ago my husband was in an accident which left him with catastrophic injuries and I a now a carer to him. Life is not easy for either of us.

So getting to the point, last week, I was driving in a rural, isolated area on my own late at night in the dark, when I saw an ex colleague of my husband parked up in a lay-by. I have known him for 30+ years and have never been remotely interested in him.

Anyway, I stopped to check he was ok, and I noticed he had a camera on tripod set up. He explained to me he was photographing the northern lights.
He took time to explain that my eyes needed to adjust to the dark then I would see them.

I stood there looking and was in awe. He then approached me from behind and put his arms around me and rested his head on top of mine. No words were spoken.
I have no idea how long we stood there like that.

It was so lovely to be held!

Love this ❤

I’m curious to know what the female equivalent of competence porn is

Nurturing porn?

I have just asked DH this, he says it’s a similar thing; when he sees me stand up doing a presentation or hears me on a work call being (as he put it) capable and professional , and he sees another side to me that isn’t usually in show at home, he finds it very attractive .

TheKoalaWhoCould · 11/10/2024 20:30

years ago, when DS was small, my boss and I were walking from our building to a meeting at another building on site, but the other side of a busy road. Being a mum of a very bolting toddler, I reflexively grabbed his hand when we went to cross the street. He laughed and said he promised he had planned to look both ways, but now every month when we go to the same meeting together, he holds my hand to cross the street. And it’s just so sweet it makes my heart go a bit fluttery.

Anyone seen the video of Henry Cavil building a PC…..? 😍🤪🫠

oh god yes!

Cel77 · 11/10/2024 20:24

My fiancé of 8 years and partner of 20 used to be able to find his way anywhere when we were travelling , just by looking at paper maps.
I used to be hypnotised by how carefully he held a huge map and patiently explained to me where we were and how we'd get there.
Because I had absolutely no clue.
Nowadays, everything he does irritate me (🤭) but I remember the map reading!

Absolutely agree with the competence thing, my DH does all sorts of DIY, he cooks, cleans, realises something needs doing and does it. Very sexy.

He also does a manual job and there's nothing more sexy than when he walks in with his hi Vis gear on, work trousers and boots looking a bit grubby. Makes me want to rip his clothes off immediately

Sounds like my husband. Also the work clothes...I work in an office with men in suits, give me a man in builder's gear with a tool belt any day (such as my husband, luckily!).
Having said that, a client who I never previously fancied (reminds me of Buzz Lightyear) once complimented my hair, after I let it go to its natural silver, and I've always had a bit of a thing for him since. He's not suit-wearer and does have nice forearms. 😆

AgathaAllAlong · 11/10/2024 20:19

Oh and once I watched a woman fix a piece of equipment with such skill I instantly developed a crush on her that lasted years. I was in my late 20s and had not realised that I was bisexual before that moment.

Yes! Recently my DC had a playdate with another child. The dad, fairly handsome but not someone I'd fancied before, casually strolled over to our piano while I was getting the kid's stuff together, and deftly played a difficult melody with one hand while chatting to me. It was very smooth.

Sorry, missed this, but agree with you...

I find this really unatttactive for some reason

Compash · 11/10/2024 20:16

Oh, and: can play the piano? 🎹 Deal done. 😄

I must be a philistine, though, because if I'm at a concert, I can't help but play 'Shag, Marry, Mate' with the orchestra...

whynotshouldi · 11/10/2024 20:14

My now ex husband (but first date at the time) called dogs “beautiful creatures” and it drove me crazy

Magpiecomplex · 11/10/2024 20:13

This is very niche, but it was an in-depth, working knowledge of the Dune books. Before the new films came out. With another man it was a discussion of the relative merits of Starfuries vs X-wings vs Colonial Vipers. I do like a good geek.

Jason Donovan posed for a selfie with me and was embarrassed about his muffin top, it was very endearing.

This may have been a dream. But any dream will do. I'll see myself out.

I’m not into women, but that joke has just made me love you 🤣

Namechangedforspooky · 11/10/2024 20:12

My DH turned up on my doorstep for our second date with a big drill to fix all the things I said needed fixing at home
This is not a euphemism 🤣
I married him soon after

AgathaAllAlong · 11/10/2024 20:11

Yes to the competence! I have a real soft spot for men showing that they care about other people, but in a knowledgeable and competent way.

My example is a colleague I've known for almost ten years and never even remotely fancied. We were at the dinner of a work conference I'd organised. A group of us (including guest speakers) stepped outside to smoke, when some drunk and high men tried to start a fight with us. When they heard my colleague's foreign accent they turned on the "what the fuck you doing in my country mate, why don't you fuck off back where you're from". Instead of escalating or taking the piss out of them (like some of my other colleagues) he calmly and seriously got into a discussion with them about the economic and social hardships of the area. I think this was partly to take the target off the other people in the group (swoon) and also because he really did care (double swoon). The incident could have really ruined my impression to the guest speakers, so I felt rescued. The others retreated and I eventually took colleague's arm to guide him away, and he had these amazing strong arms.

This was a good year ago and I've had a raging crush on him ever since, it's to the point where I deliberately avoid overnight events away with him because I don't fully trust my self control.
