Husband farting is giving me the ick

Marriedtoafarter · 10/10/2024 08:04

What can I do / say to stop my husband farting so much. He claims he can’t help it but I can hear he forces them out and they stink. I’ve said it isn’t fair for me to breathe in that air, said it gives me the ick, asked politely, asked sharply, asked so many times for it to stop and it does maybe for an hour or two but then he will fart again when we go to bed for example and it makes me shudder.

I love him so much but it makes me not want to cuddle or kiss him let alone anything else!!!

Any advice??? 😷

So are you all constantly farting in work/school? Do you force them out because you feel a bit windy?

Your comment is disengenuous. Short of her inside his brain she doesn't know she assumes.

Not here it isn't nor for most my family. But don't let ignorance impact your judgement.

@Marblesbackagain

vast majority of people ARE able to control their farts

So the growing number of individuals with IBS, intolerances etc should ignore the ignorant comments?

Do you really think a comment comparing an adult to a 2 year old capacity isn't ableist ? Because I do.

Plus it really showcases male entitlement and misogyny this situation…the audacity of this man to behave in this gross way and still expect his wife to fancy him and want to have sex with him.

LuckySantangelo35 · 12/10/2024 08:36

He sounds quite repulsive. Ick.

Do you imply he has no sphincter control? He can't control gas production but every adult (and child from about the age of 2) can hold a fart until they get to the toilet. Farting in public is a choice.

I think some people are getting defensive for no reason. People fart, that's NOT the problem. Some people have to fart or can't contain it because they have a medical condition which is also NOT a problem. Some couples are comfortable farting in front of each other and is normal in their relationship. Also NOT a problem.

The OP's husband is deliberately forcing out stinky farts even though he knows his wife doesn't like it. He could help it if he chose but chooses not to. Which is disrespectful and is really the point of the OP. The OP has asked her husband not to do something, but he continues doing it, even though he knows it upsets her. If the OP had said, for example, her husband deliberately slammed the living room door every time he went in and out, some of the posters would have answered differently but have projected slightly due to the nature of the issue.

Exactly. Noone is saying farting is not allowed, everyone does it- it's natural. But purposely doing it right next to your partner so they can smell it is revolting.

Honestly, next time he does it, tell him you've booked him a doctor's appointment to deal with his uncontrollable farting.

It might deliver a healthy dose of embarrassment. Especially if you say the doctor asked him to bring in a stool sample, and might book a colonoscopy.

I suspect the farting will be brought to a halt by that one.

Such differing opinions on farting infront of a partner. I have some friends that will do it in a new boyfriend's company within a few weeks! and others that have never farted infront of their husband of 30 years. Personally I think if you are in an intimate relationship and you live together then you should be able to let it out in your own house.

IBS is really uncomfortable, like others have suggested, it's possibly lactose intolerance. It's also worth looking at the low fodmap diet, not easy to do, cutting out dairy but it depends how much he wants to improve things.

But who wants to be intimate with someone who keeps farting?

It's diffusing!

BettyBardMacDonald · 11/10/2024 23:49

I'd rather do it in front of a stranger than a lover, if a choice had to be made. Intimate doesn't mean "any gross-out behaviour is fine" to me and mine. In fact, we try to have higher standards in the home rather than lower standards.

People who are like "oh I had a boil on my arse and my OH lanced it," and "we are intimate, so we don't close the door when we shit" boggle my mind.

Has he always done it or just started?

If he's always done it you should have nipped it in the bud years ago. I've told
my husband not to ever do it (or burp) in front of me as it makes me feel sick!

It's BS to say he can't help it. My answer to that is you wouldn't just sit there and do that if you were in an interview!!!!

@BettyBardMacDonald Personally I find it rather fun to have a competition with my husband and daughter to see who can do the loudest and longest fart when we've all been eating curry or butternut squash soup. I usually win 😆😆

My parents used to have farting competitions when we were growing up. 🤣Eventually, we all joined in. It was good fun.

Topseyt123 · 11/10/2024 22:04

Better out than in is all I would say.

A good fart can be very satisfying.

Charcoal tablets? Special stink-absorbing underwear? Kill him?

This made me giggle 😂

My DH was at the birth of our DD. Looked after me when I could not walk. Helped me dress and wash after surgery. Changed our daughter’s nappy’s and washed all my blood soaked underwear. Why would it be a problem for us to fart in front of each other after all that, disrespectful, please. It’s just funny.

If people want to have that sort of relationship, fine, but I prefer that others keep their bodily functions to themselves, and strive to do the same. The thought of sitting around flatulating together rather takes the edge off.

Laszlomydarling · 11/10/2024 21:23

SabreIsMyFave · 11/10/2024 20:55

I find this so bizarre. It's very difficult and bloody uncomfortable to hold your farts in, and why WOULD you? It's a natural bodily function. You can even do it in public without being heard...You don't have to do it loud - just squeeze it out. I fart walking along in Morrisons. It's not loud and there is no smell! Big deal! (I mean, I don't do it often - but if I need to fart I will!)

ALSO, I find it unbelievable that anyone never farts in front of their partner. Not a relationship I could be in. Imagine living like that. Confused

DH and I don't fart a massive amount, but when we want to crack one off we do.

Thing is, with the OP, if her DH is doing rank, vile, smelly farts, even if he went outside to do it, he would drag it back inside. As has been said, he needs to see a doctor!

And I see the OP has STILL not returned. After 2 days! Hmm

Very difficult for some. Easy for others. And I hold them because I don't want to create a stink for people around me.

SabreIsMyFave · 11/10/2024 21:05

@Growlybear83

The only difference I've ever noticed between men and women farting if that many men, including my husband, seem to be unable to fart without lifting a leg first! 😆😆

LMFAO!!!!! Sooooo true! 😂

BobbyBiscuits · 11/10/2024 19:15

@Gwenhwyfar fair enough re the tablets. But it seems peculiar to me that women never ever seem to do multiple toxically stinky farts in the company of others. If we can hold it in why can't they?

I disagree. I know just as many women who do multiple whiffy loud farts as men in company and either can't hold them in or don't see the need to try. The only difference I've ever noticed between men and women farting if that many men, including my husband, seem to be unable to fart without lifting a leg first 😆😆

SabreIsMyFave · 11/10/2024 20:55

Laszlomydarling · 11/10/2024 20:35

No, you're wrong. It is entirely possible for many people to hold in farts until they get to the toilet. I hold mine in all day and tend to do a lot when I get home from work.

Obviously an occasional one comes suddenly and u expectedly, but usually I feel it coming and hold it in until on my own. Must be very difficult to be unable to hold them.

My partner has never farted in front of me, except once while sleeping.

That's a bit over the top. Those underwear are horrible.

Try being firmly middle aged, I could be sponsored by Kelloggs, I go 'snap, crackle and pop so often!'
As much as I used to be very particular, bending over, lifting stuff and exercise all have me popping!
