To think people's manners in public are deteriorating

Last week til now I've noticed:

  • Someone watching porn out loud on the DLR
  • People listening to videos and music loudly even on the morning train (it happens on later trains but I've not noticed it before during the morning commute)
  • People pushing and not saying sorry. Just simply avoiding eye contact

It's been really unpleasant. Are people boy embarrassed to behave this way?

I think if everyone was like that, it would kinda work, as in everyone did their own thing and accepted the impact others doing the same has on them was par for the course. Or of course if everyone just behaved in a way that was considerate towards other people using the same space.

But we seem to be in a place where some people do what they like, have no consideration for other people, and refuse to behave differently when it's pointed out, yet create an almighty scene when they're subject to the same thing. They're being picked on and bullied if they're asked to modify their behaviour and they're being picked on and bullied if someone else's inconsiderate behaviour affects them.

I think it's started to become ingrained in some younger people that they don't need to have respect or manners any more.
I notice it a lot working in retail, that so many children and young teens don't say please or thank you, and many don't even make eye contact when being served.

I think if the parents can't be bothered to teach their kids basic manners, then they grow up to be even more disrespectful of others as they become adults.

I held the queue up in Superdrug because the cashier said the price without saying please or looking at me. She wouldn't be shamed into it!!

All these examples are rude. But I'm also pretty sure there's been the same complaint about society since time began.

My grandparents remember their parents saying it after the war ended "people don't know how to behave anymore"

Why didn't you say something? I'm sick of this recent trend of people thinking they are in a bubble in cinemas and theatres. Talking, texting, filming. Oblivious to everyone else gritting their teeth around them Grrrr!

If it had just been one thing, I would have, but I felt like I was under attack from several directions!

i really hate it when people play music, tv/film or games with sound up loud. There are things called headphones, earphones and earbuds. Please use these.

Anyone caught on public transport etc with no personal listening devices should have their phone, tablet etc crushed.

Totally agree. Yesterday at the theatre I had a group of young women behind me talking through the play. The woman in front of me turning her phone on every 10 minutes and the woman next to me loudly inhaling a family size pack of Doritos.

Letting another car pass you and the driver just stares blankly ahead without acknowledging you’ve pulled over for them. Sheer piggery

Last week I was in the train, chatting to my friend. Our conversation was interrupted by an older lady playing a video really loudly. It was intrusive so I said That's really Loud! Loudly, I might add. She turned the volume down. My friend died with embarrassment, but I don't care! She was the one being anti social! She needed to be told. Same thing at the airport recently. But I just moved seats. Don't know why we put up with it?

YANBU

Hell is other people. And the ninth circle of hell is people on public transport.

No they aren't. If they were they wouldn't do it.
