He called a wasp a moron at dinner

Ok, this isn't a serious thread exactly just a weird moment

So I was having dinner with my partner, a very nice outdoor meal. Very romantic and looking into each other's eyes etc.

Then a wasp came along and dropped into his wine. He responded by saying 'get out of there you moron' which caused the couple next to us of stop talking and stare at him then me. He then gave the wasp a small pep talk after rescuing it.

I felt embarrassed as I felt it was a really OTT response! I wanted to say was it really necessary to verbally abuse that wasp but seemed an odd thing to say...it just felt like a very angry response

You sound VERY wasp 😂😅

Hoppinggreen · 06/10/2024 19:23

Are you also a wasp OP?
Or maybe you identify as one, I can't imagine any other reason for you to be so offended on behalf of the wasp

Gummybear23 · 06/10/2024 19:19

WillowTit · 06/10/2024 19:18

it would have ruined his wine

Which was the probably the best thing about the date.

Who cares what other people think, hell is other people.

He was right, the wasp is a moron!

WillowTit · 06/10/2024 19:18

BunnyLake · 06/10/2024 19:12

He doesn’t sound at all beige to me.

Nor me.
But you know he made people look at OP in public 🙄.
He spoke out of line.

So she has to come onto.mumsnet to seek reassurance...

How can you not feel for the man?

listsandbudgets · 06/10/2024 19:16

He sounds quite refined. Believe me, I've called wasps far worse than a moron! Everything in the universe has a purpose and as far as I'm concerned one of the major purposes of wasps is to allow me to practise and enlarge my vocabulary of verbally abusive terms

GeminiGiggles · 06/10/2024 19:16

I'dve called the wasp much, much worse.

I'm also forever telling the flies and spiders they don't pay rent so they must leave. The spiders could stay if they caught any flies but nope, non-payment of rent so s21 it is!

GlomOfNit · 06/10/2024 19:15

I call 'em stripey little fuckers, OP! Grin Oh FFS, everyone swears at wasps, surely? If some random passersby raised an eyebrow, what of it?

(they ARE stripey little fuckers. And morons.)

BunnyLake · 06/10/2024 19:12

Gummybear23 · 06/10/2024 18:51

She won't dump him.
But Cling to him with dear life yet challenge everything he says and does to morph him into the non beige boyfriend she has dreamt of.

He doesn’t sound at all beige to me.

PrueHal · 06/10/2024 17:14

It's tongue and cheek but in a way - it seemed am angry reaction.

He was so angry that he ended up rescuing Mr. Moron and giving him a pep talk? He sounds like a sweet and funny person to me. That's what I would do.

Of course, my husband called me "peculiar" last night, so what do I know?

CollaterlieSistersSister · 06/10/2024 18:57

I haven’t RTFT, but I assume someone has already asked if he T-Rexes in Asda?

Yes they have! And I still don’t know what that is. But then I was very late to the Sistine chapel too!

ManchesterLu · 06/10/2024 19:07

Wasps are morons, and it needed a good talking to to make sure it didn't do it again. I'm with your DH all the way with this one.

AllyCart · 06/10/2024 19:06

soupfiend · 06/10/2024 19:05

You assume the wine wouldnt have been consumed though, who is going to waste that wine?

Not me.

Very fair point. 🤔

JayJayEl · 06/10/2024 19:06

DeanElderberry · 06/10/2024 18:49

I'm grateful to you for the thread, it reminded me there was a wasp buzzing round my bedroom curtains earlier, so I went to draw them and sure enough, there it was, snuggled down, so I moved it ('sorry darling to disturb you') and dropped it out the window. Wasps that wake up and target my bedside reading lamp are very annoying, though my least favourite one in recent years was the moron that settled onto my pillow while I went to the loo before settling down, which resulted in both of us having a nasty shock when I got back.

Oh no. I won't sleep for weeks thinking of this!!!! 😭😭😭

BunnyLake · 06/10/2024 19:06

Brightredtulips · 06/10/2024 18:57

I think I'm in love with your boyfriend

Rescuing the ‘moronic’ little thing then giving him a pep talk could well have melted my heart. I guess it depends on other factors for OP though as she’s the one who knows him.

soupfiend · 06/10/2024 19:05

AllyCart · 06/10/2024 19:04

Surely the opposite?

You wouldn't be pissed because your drink would have a wasp in it.

You assume the wine wouldnt have been consumed though, who is going to waste that wine?

Not me.

Missamyp · 06/10/2024 19:05

DP would have called the wasp a "see you next Tuesday" and either flicked it or squished it. What a brute.
By comparison, your friend is positively humane and civilised.

AllyCart · 06/10/2024 19:04

Tomorrowisyesterday · 06/10/2024 17:13

In a restaurant? I'd be pissed if something ruined my £8 glass of wine!
But he's your boyfriend and if he's giving you a bad feeling...

Surely the opposite?

You wouldn't be pissed because your drink would have a wasp in it.

MrsLBrown · 06/10/2024 19:04

The over -reaction is not his.

I wonder whose else it could be?

Thebellofstclements · 06/10/2024 19:04

To say, "oh you silly thing!" (Or equivalent, "moron" also acceptable) and fish an insect out of a glass of wine is surely the correct way? What would you prefer, that he watches a defenceless creature drown then waste the glass of wine throwing it out?

soupfiend · 06/10/2024 19:04

EPankhurst · 06/10/2024 18:54

That's not what the ick is.

The ick is when somebody (usually a man in a romantic relationship) has done something or some things so gross that their partner (usually a woman) feels repulsed by them. She gets the ick, and doesn't want to touch or be touched by him in any way.

Thats what the poster is saying, but the point is, someone who claims 'the ick' (infantile phrase), is not taking responsbility for their feelings, they are blaming the other party. As you did in your post

ruethewhirl · 06/10/2024 19:02

I think he sounds quite fun.

Toottooot · 06/10/2024 19:01

Peer mannie.

MrsLBrown · 06/10/2024 19:01

I'd find it quite amusing to give an animal human qualities- anthropomorphism and all that.

Could be worse- could have said it was a 'fucking moron.'

You need to lighten up.

If this upsets you how on earth are you going to get through life?
