He called a wasp a moron at dinner

Ok, this isn't a serious thread exactly just a weird moment

So I was having dinner with my partner, a very nice outdoor meal. Very romantic and looking into each other's eyes etc.

Then a wasp came along and dropped into his wine. He responded by saying 'get out of there you moron' which caused the couple next to us of stop talking and stare at him then me. He then gave the wasp a small pep talk after rescuing it.

I felt embarrassed as I felt it was a really OTT response! I wanted to say was it really necessary to verbally abuse that wasp but seemed an odd thing to say...it just felt like a very angry response

I’d be calling something a lot ruder tbh

Outdoors in this weather??

Where are you that you are eating outdoors @PrueHal?
It isn't outdoor eating weather where I live.

CheeseWisely · 06/10/2024 18:41

I'd have called any wasp that thought it could get in my wine a lot worse than a moron.

PennyCrayon1 · 06/10/2024 17:43

It gave you the ick. That’s all. It would probably give me the ick too.

Really? I'd just have been laughing.

DoYouReally · 06/10/2024 18:39

Was there wine with the dinner?

I can't decide if you've had to much or too little.

If you are in any way serious, you really need to get a grip.

DeanElderberry · 06/10/2024 18:38

I give wasps pep talks when I'm encouraging them to leave the house, but usually coo at them and call them darling, possibly, if really exasperated, silly darling. I often reflect that it's just as well I live alone without any neighbours in earshot.

I had diversity training a few weeks ago and we were told that moron was no longer acceptable.

Did you ask if it was acceptable when addressing a wasp?

Liv999 · 06/10/2024 18:36

Your boyfriend is right, wasps are morons, I would have called it a lot worse if it landed in my glass of wine, and let it drown in there

OverthinkingOlive · 06/10/2024 18:35

Cunts with wings!

Whatonearth07957 · 06/10/2024 18:33

OMG... Bee more beige...natural reaction. Care less, I'd have involved the onlookers who were involving themselves! You'd loathe me, talk to strangers and all sorts... Mortifying!!

80smonster · 06/10/2024 18:33

Tone is everything. Moron can be said light heartedly, but only the OP knows what tone it was delivered in. As a PP said I don’t find it a particularly offensive word.

Gummybear23 · 06/10/2024 18:32

PrueHal · 06/10/2024 18:08

It probably wouldn't have bothered me as much if we weren't in company

Which shows you really care more about other people's opinion rather than your partner.
Posting on here with this nonsense confirms this.
Hope he has the sense to run.
As his life will be a nightmare.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 06/10/2024 18:32

We can all think of more civilised things to say after a discombobulating incident.

Invite the wasp back for a less aggressive action replay.

Partner: 'I say, old chap, what the dickens are you doing in my wine?'
Wasp (in a teeny voice): 'The backstroke?!'

Saltedbutter · 06/10/2024 18:31

He was being unreasonable not to call it a careless twat. Moron is going too lightly - nice wine is expensive.

Wolfpa · 06/10/2024 18:26

Where I come from moron is a term of endearment along the same lines as calling someone a dick head. Sounds like you are looking for an excuse to end the relationship

In my head I'm picturing Martin Goodman. Awww RIP Paul Ritter

Love Friday Night Dinner and Martin ❤️
RIP 🥲

In my head though I'm thinking more shouty man from Friends that Rachel dates.
"Sorry, Mr Wasp! Sorry you go DOODY in my hand! DUMB DONALD DOODOO!!!"😂

That comment must have stung.
Wasps have feelings too.

It sounds like the wasp had a better evening than your boyfriend.

Hello Sharon!

Choochoo21 · 06/10/2024 18:19

I would find this funny but I actually know where you’re coming from.

I dated a man who was lovely but he was so loud!!

I used to cringe because of how loud he was and it got to a point where I’d avoid doing anything that was too quiet with him.

I got really embarrassed in tesco once and it really hurt his feelings, which I felt awful for as he wasn’t doing anything wrong but it was just his personality.

I am on the quiet side and decided that we were just not compatible, even though he ticked loads of other boxes.

I would see how you get on with him but it may be that you’re just incompatible.

MadamePeriwinkle · 06/10/2024 18:18

He called the wasp a moron, then saved it from drowning in his wine?

I'd think this was hilarious…and cute.

PrueHal · 06/10/2024 18:06

I think basically I had an aggressive relative in my life growing up and it reminded me of this.

People are saying I'm sensitive but now I've thought about i think this is why it bothered me. My partner isn't my relative.

Glad you figured out why it bothered you so much 🙂 I don't think you're being silly

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 06/10/2024 18:15

He was restrained.
Wasps are twats.

WonderingWanda · 06/10/2024 18:14

Moronic means foolish or stupid....which is an accurate description for a wasp stuck in a glass of wine. Maybe the other diners didn't spot the wasp and wondered if he was calling you a moron? You reaction is a bit moronic op, he called the wasp a wally not a cunt.
