He called a wasp a moron at dinner

Ok, this isn't a serious thread exactly just a weird moment

So I was having dinner with my partner, a very nice outdoor meal. Very romantic and looking into each other's eyes etc.

Then a wasp came along and dropped into his wine. He responded by saying 'get out of there you moron' which caused the couple next to us of stop talking and stare at him then me. He then gave the wasp a small pep talk after rescuing it.

I felt embarrassed as I felt it was a really OTT response! I wanted to say was it really necessary to verbally abuse that wasp but seemed an odd thing to say...it just felt like a very angry response

You really need to get a life OP.

Balloonhearts · 06/10/2024 19:00

Well it wasn't the cleverest place it's ever landed was it? Worst case it drowns, best case it gets done for flying under the influence.

That's not what the ick is.

The ick is when somebody (usually a man in a romantic relationship) has done something or some things so gross that their partner (usually a woman) feels repulsed by them. She gets the ick, and doesn't want to touch or be touched by him in any way.

How is that different?

CollaterlieSistersSister · 06/10/2024 18:57

I haven’t RTFT, but I assume someone has already asked if he T-Rexes in Asda?

CatamaranViper · 06/10/2024 18:57

God I do this all the time! I even gave a spider directions to a nice looking gate that would be good for webbing.

Brightredtulips · 06/10/2024 18:57

I think I'm in love with your boyfriend

universalcredithelpplease · 06/10/2024 18:56

I would have embarrassed you far more, I'd have screamed and run away.

SpiggingBelgium · 06/10/2024 18:47

“The ick”. A concept made up to justify blind, unjustified criticism. “Oh, but I have The Ick though; there’s nothing you can do when that happens. It’s officially A Thing and therefore not my responsibility in any way”.

Wow...I would have pissed myself laughing and felt blessed I had a partner that made me laugh !!!

A wasp diving into a glass of liquid is a moron.

A partner who then gives the moron a pep talk instead of bludgeoning it to death sounds like a keeper.

100% this

I'd have found that really funny

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 06/10/2024 18:51

This would have made me laugh but each to their own. I think a guy who gives pep talks to insects sounds amusing.

Are you a bit stiff?

@FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren I always seem to tune in exactly to a post just before mine... today it's yours 🤔😂

If you do decide that he's incompatible, send him to me. Talking to wasps, telling them off and giving them a pep talk is EXACTLY the sort of thing I'd do.

I've been swatting a little fruit fly off my laptop screen for the past half hour. It's just landed on my glasses so I've just given it some sage life advice. Namely that if it doesn't stop annoying me I'll be squishing it.

She won't dump him.
But Cling to him with dear life yet challenge everything he says and does to morph him into the non beige boyfriend she has dreamt of.

soupfiend · 06/10/2024 18:50

Blimey my OH goes mental at flies and wasps, lots of flailing of hands, ducking of the head, swiping, swearing.

And wasps are morons, along with flies. Always finding their way in and never finding their way out.

Being thwacked with a tea towel soon does for them. Along with verbal abuse.

butterpuffed · 06/10/2024 18:50

Poor little wasp, he nearly drowned , was given verbal abuse and has a hangover . He'll need some antidepressants 😧

corlan · 06/10/2024 18:49

I called a cat a fucker earlier. Sometimes they've just got to be told

CoastalCalm · 06/10/2024 18:49

My husband would probably have called it a bastard and turned the table over in the drama to get out of its way - he has a terrible fear of them

DeanElderberry · 06/10/2024 18:49

I'm grateful to you for the thread, it reminded me there was a wasp buzzing round my bedroom curtains earlier, so I went to draw them and sure enough, there it was, snuggled down, so I moved it ('sorry darling to disturb you') and dropped it out the window. Wasps that wake up and target my bedside reading lamp are very annoying, though my least favourite one in recent years was the moron that settled onto my pillow while I went to the loo before settling down, which resulted in both of us having a nasty shock when I got back.

IDontHateRainbows · 06/10/2024 18:48

I'd love to have a life where this was a big deal

It gave you the ick. That’s all. It would probably give me the ick too.

SurelySmartie · 06/10/2024 18:46

Do you think this could be the beginning of the end of your relationship?

MrsWinkly · 06/10/2024 18:45

toopytoo · 06/10/2024 17:28

You were looking into each other's eyes? Were you talking, did you look away when cutting your food?

I hope they were safety knives...👀

betterangels · 06/10/2024 18:45

OverthinkingOlive · 06/10/2024 18:35

Cunts with wings!

Accurate. I would have told it to fuck off away from my wine.

betterangels · 06/10/2024 18:43

Wasps are annoying and piss me off. I'm team boyfriend.

JayJayEl · 06/10/2024 18:42

Maybe the other couple are Welsh and thought it strange that your partner called a wasp a "carrot"?
