He called a wasp a moron at dinner

Ok, this isn't a serious thread exactly just a weird moment

So I was having dinner with my partner, a very nice outdoor meal. Very romantic and looking into each other's eyes etc.

Then a wasp came along and dropped into his wine. He responded by saying 'get out of there you moron' which caused the couple next to us of stop talking and stare at him then me. He then gave the wasp a small pep talk after rescuing it.

I felt embarrassed as I felt it was a really OTT response! I wanted to say was it really necessary to verbally abuse that wasp but seemed an odd thing to say...it just felt like a very angry response

I'd be calling it a cheeky little fucker!

Goodtogossip · 05/11/2024 13:28

If a wasp had the audacity to try & pinch a drink of my wine I'd be calling it worse than a moron.
It's strange you feel so weird about it. The other couple probs thought it was a funny reaction from you partner. If I'd have heard someone talking to a wasp & calling them a moron I'd be having a look over to to see the wasps reaction 😀.

Was it all an elaborate publicity stunt? 👀

I enjoyed this thread OP it made me laugh 😃

Editing to add it must be a really slow news day Mirror!

RubyRedd · 16/10/2024 12:53

Blimey, this thread has made it onto Reddit and the Mirror online. Not sure what to think ...

HiEarthlings · 13/10/2024 18:19

You're having us on, aren't you? You can't be serious with this? If you're this uptight over such a trivial thing, I don't think you're at all compatible with your partner. Getting this upset over such a small, and I have to say, quite amusing, incident is ridiculous. I would have been laughing my head off at him, especially when he gave it a pep talk! Who the hell cares what other people in the restaurant think? Are you ever going to see any of them again? Probably not. They're nobody to you, so why does it matter what they might think? The couple who looked over might have misheard what he said, mistook who he was calling a moron, but either way, THEY ARE NOTHING TO YOU. So why do you care?

FOXYMORON1707 · 13/10/2024 14:14

Are you okay? Like in the head?

Yep you're right. Over thinking.

I used to get really embarrassed by my DF.
I decided to stop looking around and just enjoyed his energy for what it was. It was him and I loved him for it so I just didn’t look about when these moments came.

LoudBee · 13/10/2024 08:31

This is deffo my kind of humour! I would have creased up laughing! He sounds fun!

Abab11 · 13/10/2024 07:23

It sounds to me like he was just trying to be funny. If you were embarrassed why didn’t you just tell him in a conversation after dinner “look, I was quite embarrassed by what happened with the wasp at dinner. I know you were probably trying to be funny but it embarrassed me.” Why do people not talk then wonder why there are relationship issues/misunderstandings?

Instead of you thinking he’s weird/bizarre/embarrassing, he might think, oh she’s so uptight.

Who cares what the people next to you thought? You were there with your partner, and if you enjoy his company then great, and if not, at least tell him, and if this kind of thing happens regularly maybe you’re just not compatible. He could find someone who would have found that funny and maybe even joined in and had a laugh about it.

ClemenceD · 12/10/2024 23:50

Maybe you can have PetaUK investigate?

Tessiebear2023 · 12/10/2024 22:37

Hehe, moron wasp.

Sorry, it sounds like you're more concerned with what others think than being wrapped up in being with your partner, it's not a great sign over a small thing like that. Are you annoyed with him about something (is he always insensitive, or has he done something you haven't got over), or are you always sensitive about total strangers reactions, do you dread being judged? You sound a bit fragile right now, only you can know why that is.

Coxy1234 · 12/10/2024 22:16

I haven't read the whole thread and it's probably been said before but, moron in welsh means carrot. Perhaps thw wasp reminded him of a carrot 🥕😂

User100000000000 · 12/10/2024 20:52

verbally abuse the wasp 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

To be honest OP, I think it's you and the couple sat next to you who are a bit weird and OTT. I've heard wasps called everything from "little shits" to "bastards", but "moron" is a new one on me and I think it's bloody hilarious! And the pep talk too - brilliant! Good for him! 😂

My words of choice are Fucker or Mother Fucker.
🤷‍♀️

LouH1981 · 12/10/2024 19:56

He sounds hilarious 😂 Gutted I wasn’t there!

Pupinskipops · 12/10/2024 19:54

Not sure why that would have attracted such attention from your neighbouring diners. Did they perhaps think he was referring to you?!

I think you should ditch him without delay. One of you's going to better off.

I sympathise OP. I had an ex that called a spider a twat. LTB now before he calls an earwig a buffoon.

Did he say it loud enough for folks to think he was saying that to you? Good for you. He would be my X too!

OMG the poor wasp to be so brutally verbally abused and disrespected in front of all those people. To all all you wasp haters out there, White Anglo Saxon Protestants have feelings too, you know! they are marginalised by society and pilloried for their paleness and religious ambiguity... Damn, makes me so mad.

Edited

I am beginning to know how it felt. There are threads on mumsnet that are definitely aimed at making me feel a 'worm and no man'.

I was on a packed Nottingham tram a few weeks go, travelling from the Theatre Royal towards Bulwell when a wasp settled on a window next to a young girl and her mum. They both freaked out but looking down on the floor I spotted a discarded plastic cup, used it to trap the wasp whilst another passenger produced the required strip of paper.
At the next stop I told the wasp not to bother anyone again, got off the tram, released it and got back on, much to the amusement of the girl 😊

LoveMyBusPass · 09/10/2024 11:08

He rescued the wasp and gave it a talking to, presumably explaining that the next wine drinker might not be so kind. Your partner sounds fine to me. But, then again, I talk to animals and insects that I enounter and to inanimate household objects so I might not be the best judge.
